Scholarship for Ph.D. Student in a TÜBİTAK Project TÜBİTAK Project 114Y415 INVESTIGATION OF CHANGES IN LAKE METABOLISMS AND PHYTOPLANKTON BİOMASS IN RESPONSE TO EXTREME EVENTS AND ENVIROMENTAL VARIABLES BY A REALTIME AUTOMATED LAKE MONITORING SYSTEM • The project has been funded under TÜBİTAK COST support program Research NETLAKE action ( https://www.dkit.ie/netlake ) position: • One Ph.D. student will be funded for 3 years in this project (1800 TL/month) Summary: In this study, a real time in situ water quality parameter measurement system along meteorological station will be set up on Eymir Lake. The system will take vertical measurement of water quality parameters which include temperature, depth, turbidity, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, total algal biomass (chlorophylla and cyanobacteria) and dissolved organic fluorescent substance. In addition, with the help of meteorological stations, air temperature, wind direction and intensity, pressure and solar radiation parameters will be monitored. With the deployment of the system, Lake Eymir water quality parameters will be monitored in real time. Lake metabolism will be estimated and its response to extreme events (instant air temperature change, flood, heat waves, drought, rain shower, instant air pressure change) as well as the environmental changes (amount of nutrient, salinity, alkalinity vs.) will be modeled. This would allow us understand the effect of extreme events (decreasing oxygen level, phytoplankton biomass increase and cyanobacteria bloom vs.) on lake metabolisms. It is anticipated in the latest IPCC report (2014) that there is will increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme events through global climate change. Thus, understanding the response of an ecosystems to extreme events will result in developing effective lake management strategies to mitigate the impacts. In the end, results will be disseminated through training and workshops to the students and governmental organizations. Job: ● ● Calibrating, maintain and controlling system every 15 days. Making data interpretation and Lake Metabolism model. ● ● Associating metabolism of lake and extreme events.
