People News
The Centenary Banner Project is
marching forward, steered by
the Three Carolyn's! For those
lovely people who would like to
contribute a panel or design (for
others to sew), we will be meeting briefly after church on the
22nd Feb in the Kidzone room.
We are after panels from organisations such as Boys Brigade,
Beacon, Youth, Friendship
Group, etc. We’d love to see
what you come up with!
Graham and Bev Agnew are
about to leave on a short prearranged visit to Sydney to conduct a wedding and enjoy a
short holiday. Graham will be
absent from the Church Office
(and pulpit) from Wednesday
February 25th till Wednesday
March 11th (the day of his return). During his absence, the
Office will be staffed at various
times by our wonderful volunteers, while pastoral oversight
will be in the hands of our Pastoral Care team, with Maxine
Moore as leader. Maxine Moore
and Aaron Chalmers will be
preaching in Graham’s absence.

Care Works
Churches of Christ CareWorks Offering Day This year’s CareWorks Offering Day is Sunday March 1. CareWorks continues to serve along-side local
Churches of Christ to address the needs of disadvantaged people in our
community. CareWorks also delivers many programs such as Oasis House,
Emergence Relief & Financial Counselling, Anti-poverty Week,The Wellbeing Classroom and CareWorks relationships with churches which for more
information are detailed on the web site or in the CWConnect Newsletter
Tackling these issues takes considerable human and financial resources.
You can help by making a special offering on March 1, as together we
seek to offer hope to those around us. Offering envelopes are available
from your Church.

BLACKWOOD CHURCH OF CHRIST
22nd February
Summary of Graham’ message last Sunday
The topic: The Strength of Unity he is Incalculable…
Key verses:
1. "Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name, so that they
may be one, just as you and I are one…”
Jesus: John 17:11
2. “Do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives, by means
of the peace that binds you together…”
Ephesians 4:3
"Preserving the unity of the Spirit" does not mean:
1.
2.
3.
Everyone agreeing with everyone else in all things…
Everyone agreeing unreservedly with the ministers and leaders…
Suppressing our opinions and ideas hoping they'll go away…
Unity within the Body of Christ:
... begins with a God inspired vision
… means individual members giving assent to the foundational truths of
the Gospel
… involves the creation of a culture where it's okay to express diverging
viewpoints
… may mean sacrificing personal preferences in favour of corporate objectives
When the Body of Christ is united in mission and purpose:
1.
2.
3.
People are attracted by the energy, vitality and focus that's
clearly evident…
Participation and commitment levels are generally high…
Christ-honouring, life transforming goals are achieved…

Commisioning Service for CPSWs
You are invited to participate in the Natural Church Development
(NCD) survey as a representative cross section of the Blackwood
Church of Christ
In a Nutshell, NCD is an opportunity for an informed conversation
about the health, vitality and possibility of your church.
In October 2014 the State Ministry Team discerned an opportunity
to invite Churches of Christ churches in SA to participate in this
conversation. This tool will help us understand and celebrate the
life of our churches and what we might be able to discover
together that can help us be more effective in engaging God’s
mission in our local contexts.
NCD is one of a number of tools we are using to facilitate this conversation. Through surveying a cross section of the membership of
a church, we will receive data giving us a snapshot in a point in
time of key factors that strengthen the life and ministry of that
church, and key factors that may be preventing the church from
reaching its full potential.
Blackwood is one of 9 churches invited to participate in the first
round of this process. The State Ministry Team will work alongside
the core leadership and the church to understand the report and
implement next steps. I look forward to working with you as we
strengthen our capacity to engage God’s mission through this
church. Complete the survey online
We would like to commence the online delivery of the survey on
Friday February 27th and paper survey on Sunday March 1st
Please contact Graham Thomas for any further enquiries regarding
participating in NCD
