For people recently affected by a breast, prostate,
colorectal (bowel) cancer or melanoma diagnosis in the
past four months. A team at the University of New South
Wales have developed two information resource packs
that are designed to help couples cope with a diagnosis of
cancer, and are investigating which pack best meets the
needs of couples.
The study has been going for 18 months, and there are
some benefits of the packs emerging. Specifically,
participants suggest that the packs might help to prepare
for the challenges ahead, help couples feel that what they
are experiencing is ‘normal’, connects couples to helpful
people and services, and giving sense of hope.
If you would like to take part in the study, you will be
mailed one of the two information packs and asked to
complete a series of surveys over a six-month period. For
more information please email the Coping-Together team
on coping.together@unsw.edu.au or phone
1800 104 597. Alternatively, brochures relating to the
study are available at the BMCH office.
