No.: S/1L/55864 of 2008- 09). It is also o registered under FCRA and its FCRA registration number is 147120998. It was established forr the upliftment of the community, and is workingg relentlessly for improving the living conditions of the under priviledged marginalized com mmunity in and around Kolkata. The organization is committed to work in bringing about ho olistic development through education, health, h protection and livelihood for the under privileged section of the community especially th he children. A beginning d initiatives – Education, Child Protection and Health & has been made with several development Hygiene being the main theematic areas of intervention. Networking, advocacy and capacity building are the core stren ngths of the organization, and these are being applied to the programmes and are the causses that the organization espouses. CAS is working extensively on n effective implementation of the Right to Ed ducation Act 2009, Child Protection Issues, Positive Parrenting and Non- Violent Discipline across West Bengal. What we do: ¾ Provide Mid-day Meal der open schooling system for drop-out girls of o class IX and X ¾ Run study centres und ¾ Provide remedial edu ucational support to the students of class VII and VIII of various schools in Kolkata ¾ Create awareness on Child C Marriage, Trafficking and Domestic Chilld Labour Issues. ¾ Sensitize Governmentt aided and private school teachers, parents, members of School Management Committtees, Government officials ¾ Conduct training prog gramme for the care givers of NGO runs homes We believe in “Growing rowing g of Healthy Body and Mind”; Mind for this Community Action Society (CAS) is focusin ng on certain issues like--x To provide children wiith better supplementary nutrition x To make all the teacheers, parents as well as the students aware of the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009. x To increase the learnin ng capacities of the next generation leaders x To empower adolescent girls through child friendly education and community mobilization. x To accommodate undeer priviledged children in residential schools They need your h help: elp: x Under privileged children x Deprived Communitiees Raise the BAR… Education is the background and milestone of women empowerment because it enables them to respond to the challenges, to confront their traditional roles and helping them out to bring changes in their life. “If you educate a man you educate an individual, however, if you educate a woman you educate a whole family. Women empowered means mother India empowered”. Though, education is provided by the public sector as well as private sector with funds coming from all the three levels, still the actual quantity of schooling that children experience and the quality of teaching they receive are not up to the expectation in government schools. Educated people not only promote education but also provide better guidance to their children, which will help in reducing infant mortality, growth of the population, child marriage and would contribute meaningfully to the nation. In the latest Education for all Global Monitoring Report (GMR) released worldwide by UNESCO acknowledges the headway made by India in improving access to education but the country’s population of illiterate adults has been identified as the drag factor. It is also to be noticed that India currently has the largest population of illeterate adults in the world with 278 million. The Bitter Reality… x x x x x x x x x The male-female ratio in West Bengal is 1000: 940 India has about 550 million people under the age of 25 years out of which only 11% are enrolled in tertiary institutions compared to the world average of 23%. India currently has the largest population of illiterate adults in the world with 287 million. Female Literacy rate is 66.57% in West Bengal. Women have a much lower literacy rate as compared to men in West Bengal. Only 25% of the students are continuing their studies at secondary level. Lack of support for the children above 14 years or after class VIII West Bengal ranked 6th in India in Child Marriage. Dropout rate is higher among girls at the high secondary level.
