(Revised event) Notes from Richard by Rev. Richard Dwyer Untold Secrets of Success Now that this photo is being shared around the world (in The Current and on internet), what more can be said. There’s got to more than one way for a choir director to attract attention. The rest of the story goes like this. It began in a choir rehearsal a few weeks ago when I talked with the choir about achieving a certain tone quality in one of our Fifth Sunday anthems. I suggested that June 10 - Classic movie they should sing as if trying to stifle a yawn without being seen. Well, the "Casablanca" at the Kentucky example of an unseen yawn just caused everyone in the choir to start yawning Theater (you know how contagious that is). As the choir rehearsal quickly turned in June 11 - A series of classes on to a chorus of yawns, I decided I needed to give a different example. I Basic Spanish, in the church suggested that they sing as if having a bite of hot potato in mouth. The choir office, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. tried it and liked it. But, to keep that fresh in the minds of the singers, I June 14 – Our 3rd Sunday of threatened to bring a hot potato for the service and place it on the back of the Sharing. Monetary donations and organ where the choir members could view it. No need to do that! Sunday a note of encouragement for afternoon these potatoes began appearing at the organ. They served the some of the folks in Texas who purpose. Not only did the tone quality of the choir change but also some have dealt with massive flooding smiles were also elicited. So, now you’ve read about and have seen an and loss. example of one of the untold secrets of success of a choir director. (I have a feeling that the story is not going to end here). June 14 - Hymn Sing at Shelter #4 at Jacobson Park June 17 - Scrapbooking with Ann Wheeler June 18 - A series of classes on Basic Spanish, in the church office, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. June 21 (Father's Day) - Legend's Baseball Game - 6:05 p.m. June 25 - A series of classes on Basic Spanish, in the church office, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. July 3 – Office Closed in observance of Independence Day. Meet at 10 a.m. in Lexington to carpool to Louisville. Group admission to museum is $8.00. Lunch will cost $6 - $12. Sign up at Church or contact Susan Booker at 230-1624. July 11 (Saturday) - Bonfire and Cookout at Kinch Query's - cost $5 July 12 (Sunday) – Potluck Mission Moment by Marsha Oakley Faith Fellowship of Lexington seeks to become the hands and feet of Christ in the world through engagement in missions. Have you had to experience the devastating effects of a massive flood, as many have had to endure in Texas, over the last couple of weeks? Having a few inches of water in a basement does not begin to compare. As you think of what many families are having to contend with, our thoughts, prayers and actions reflect on how to support in any way that we can. Our 3rd Sunday of Sharing will be focused on monetary donations to be given to some of these Strangers in Texas, who need assistance and encouragement, and will take place on Sunday, June 14th. The Mission Committee is looking into organizations that are supporting this effort, and will choose a Christian one to share our efforts. In addition, we are having anyone, who so desires, write a note of encouragement and support to be given to families who benefit. Note cards will be available in the Lobby on June 14th for this purpose, and will be sent with the donations that are received. Welcoming, Caring for, or Supporting Strangers is one of the directives from Christ – may our hearts prove worthy. He will begin his service on Monday, June 8. Engagement in FB terms means taking one of four specific actions: liking a post, commnting, sharing or clicking on a link. Some things don't count as engagement: reading, viewing or liking the entire page (as opposed to a specific post). Now, here's the exciting news -- In the past 28 days, people have engaged with Faith Fellowship's FB page from all over the place: Lexington; St. Croix Falls, WI; Winchester; Richmond; Statesville, NC; Helena, AL; Owenton; Manchester; Plymouth, MN; Durham, NC; New Richmond, WI; Valencia, CA; Ponca City, OK; Coppell, TX; San Antonio, TX; Gainesville, GA; Louisville; Somerset; and Taylors Falls, MN! Do any of these locations sound familiar to you? Perhaps you shared a post which resulted in engagement by a family member. We may not be taking in a lot of new members from Oklahoma and Minnesota, but you never know -- those folks may have friends in Kentucky who are looking for a church home. Please continue to engage with our FB posts so that others may do so as well. We love it when you like us.
