After seed is planted in the ground, it develops into a full grown crop. With only some water, warm sunshine, and a little patience the marvellous growth takes place. How that can happen we do not know. A mystery should not, however, put us off. A mystery is not a truth about which we can know nothing. A mystery is not a truth about which we can know nothing. A mystery is a truth about which we cannot know everything. Something we can know about the mystery which is the Church is that the Holy Spirit is at work. Vegetable life needs light and water to grow. The Church needs the Holy Spirit. After the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was sent upon the Church, it began to grow and to spread as it does to this day. Fr Andrew Chen OMI Fr Andrew will be leaving us next week for a short while and will be heading to China on an emersion program. He will also visit our Oblate Missions as well as family. We wish him a safe journey and a safe return to us back here in Fremantle. Message from the Ursuline Sisters This week has been one of much joy and celebration for all of us Ursuline Sisters as we rejoiced with our very own Sr Cecilia on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia—for service to the Catholic Church in Australia and to the Community of Fremantle. No Religious seeks public recognition nor applause for what they seek to do in the name of God for the common good of the Church and Society, however, it is heartwarming and encouraging when it does happen. We are grateful for the honour and congratulate Sr Cecilia for the strength of her testimony to us all. Together with and on behalf of Sr Cecilia, we are so grateful for all the material and spiritual support we have received in particular from this parish community, without whose friendship it would not have been possible to be true missionaries of His heart to humanity. Fr Frank Santucci OMI Fr Frank is an Oblate of Mary Immaculate currently working from the Oblate General House in Rome. Originally he is from South Africa. He is an expert in Oblate Spirituality and the life of our Founder St Eugene De Mazenod. Catholic Missions Appeal 20/21 June The work of our missionaries throughout the world is like the mustard seed. Work that starts off small and unnoticeable, “… yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them all…” Catholic Mission is the official universal overseas mission aid agency of our Holy Father. Your support for Catholic Mission appeal next week-end will sustain and strengthen the work of our missionaries in sowing this seed of God’s Love as they reach out to the most vulnerable in their care amidst unimaginable poverty and persecution.
