Dear BCCSP Advisory Board members,

Dear BCCSP Advisory Board members,
The following pages detail how to set up a Google Hangout, which is the method decided upon for teleconferencing the
next board meeting on July 16, 2014. The following are needed in order for Google Hangout to work properly as a
teleconferencing system:
1. An external webcam with an internal microphone OR a computer with a built-in webcam and microphone (To
prevent echoing, we suggest listening via headphones and speaking through either the internal microphone or
webcam)
2. Internet connection
3. Google+ account
a. If you do not have a Google account, pages 1-3 of this document detail how to set up an account. You
can then follow the steps to upgrade your new account to a Google+ account and use Google Hangout.
b. If you already have a Google account, pages 5-9 detail how to upgrade your account to a Google+
account, and then how to use Google Hangout.
c. If you already have a Google+ account, pages 10-11 detail how to use Google Hangout.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions at sara.jestrab@state.co.us, or 303.692.2998.
Happy Hangouts!

Creating a Google Account
Before you can install Google+ to videoconference, you will need a Google account. Follow these steps to create your

4. It will ask you to verify your account to make sure you’re a real person. It will send you a verification code to input on
the next page. Since I linked my work number to this account, it called that number to give me the verification code.
You also have the option to have the code texted to you if you linked a mobile phone to your account. Press continue,
and then fill in the code on the following page.
5. Once you have entered the verification code, this page should appear. You can add a photo to your account, which is
what will appear to other Google users.

Installing Google Hangout if you do not already have Google+ :
If you do not have Google+ installed on your Google account, you need to do this in order to use Google Hangout.
Here’s how to upgrade your Google account to Google+:
1. Go to: www.google.com/+/learnmore/hangouts/ , then click the button in the top right that says “Join Google+”
2. It should take you to a page where you will create your Google+ profile. Once you have put in your name, gender, and
birthday, click the button that says “Upgrade.” This will upgrade your Google account to a Google+ account.

3. If you’d like, you can search for people you know that may be on Google+, but this is not a necessary step; feel free to
skip over this by pressing “Continue.”
4. It really wants you to add people, but again, it’s not necessary. To bypass this step, click “Continue anyway.”

5. You can add more details about yourself if you’d like, such as a photo for your profile. To take a photo using your
webcam, click the “Snap a photo” button. To upload a photo from your computer, click “upload an image.” None of
these details are required, so feel free to bypass this step if you’d prefer. Once you have put in a photo or added in
more information, click “Finish” to complete your Google+ profile.

6. Now that you have finished your profile, it will take you to your Google+ homepage. The system populates your home
page with items from other Google+ users. On the right of your home screen is where you can access Google Hangout.
Click on the green button that looks like a quotation mark in a speech bubble, which will sign you into Google Hangout.
7. Next, you can search for contacts or other Google+ users with whom to start the Hangout. Type in the name of your
contact, and Google will search for them. Once you find them, click on their name to open a chat box. To begin a video
call, click the video camera icon.
