****************************************
The following information appeared in Australian Road Rider Magazine.
Bikers are likely to be more beneficial to region economies than the average caravanning grey nomad, so says
the Australian Motorcycle Council, most Grey Nomads are self sufficient and don’t spend much in regional
towns, however very few bikers take food with them so everything that goes in their mouths and their fuel tanks
is bought locally, plus there is accommodation and incidentals.
Some tourism bodies have produced brochures and videos targeting bike riders but it is still in its infancy, it has
been said that motorcycle tourism would have a multi-million dollar economic impact on regional towns and the
tourism industry.
At this time there is no actual amount as no one has quantified it, but it would be substantial.
We can all agree on that as long as we don’t get ripped off just because we ride a motorcycle.
Andrew Harvey is a specialist when it comes to paint and panel work for your vehicle, he is also accredited
with all the big car insurers for accident work…...BUT he also has specialised equipment to transport your
motorcycle. Push on, lock in and tie down, the hydraulic lift guarantees that there will be no damage to your
Harley so it is delivered safe and sound.

Although a little late due to the Newsletter being delayed here is report on the Chapter Ride to Bendigo.
Lets Start at the beginning.
17 HOGy’s met at APCO North Albury for an 8.00amn start, make that 16 as our “Tail End Charlie” Bo
managed to get lost so we picked him up south of Wodonga.
We made our first stop at the Scottish Restaurant just out of Glenrowan (that’s McDonalds for those who do not
know), there we picked up Shell and Glenno and a friend of theirs Browny, a prospective new member and it was
then on to Violet Town with a stop for fuel for those bikes with smaller tanks, such as the Sporties and Shell’s
Suzie.
Next stop was at the Rushworth Bakery for lunch and a toilet break and then on the road again to Bendigo.
(Ed: Is it me or does it seem that HOG rides just do not seem to be able to pass an eater or bakery?)
Arriving at Bendigo we regrouped and headed for Central Harley where we were made very welcome by Steve
and his staff. We spent about an hour in the shop and on leaving Steve donated a 110th Anniversary jacket to
raffle. (Thanks again Steve, really appreciated)
NOTE: This jacket is the “Guessing Raffle Prize” that will be drawn at Red Faces
We then headed to our digs at the Iron Bark Cabins where all of us but Big Al and Ruth stayed in dormitory style
cabins. Al and Ruth had to have a private cabin and the noise that came for it during the night kept half of
Bendigo awake… just jokin guys.
After settling in we wandered across to the Bush Pig and sank a few cold ones, and that set the mood until dinner
time, when the proprietor put on a fantastic roast for us at the huge cost of $16 per head. If anyone wanted
seconds or thirds they were most welcome.
With dinner over we sat around outside with a few more drinks, told a few jokes and generally had lots of laughs,
Karen was laughing so much at one of Bo’s jokes that she added entertainment for the group when she was about
to enter the men’s loos instead of the ladies.
Whilst we were having dinner the spirits of HOG came down and levitated Shell’s Suzie from among the Harleys
and placed it on the veranda of one of the dorms, all to the amusement of the HOG Members and Shell.
After a night of fun we retired, and rose the next morning for a hearty breakfast cooked for us at the Bush Pig, the
off to the Central Deborah Mine for an underground tour. This took approximately 90 minutes, and we were
given our own guide for our group and he was most obliging and informative.
From there we had lunch and departed around 1.00pm heading for home….that is all but Big Al and Ruth. Al’s
bike would not start, an electrical fault just nothing there, Al insisted that we not wait around as he had RACV
Total Care and he would call them for assistance as it was Sunday and nothing was open.
We later discovered that the problem was only a loose earth and Total Care paid for their motel accommodation
for Al and Ruth (I think that Al may have loosened the terminal so he and Ruth could have another night
together) No offence guys.
On leaving Al and Ruth we headed home via Shepparton and Yarrawonga with our Wangaratta members
departing the ride at Bundalong. The rest of the group went on to Rutherglen for a drink and ice cream bidding
our farewells and headed for home.
We missed the company of two of our members that were due to come on the ride with us being Shamus and
George, but with circumstances out of their control were unable to join us, we look forward to having your
presence on our next trip away.
Result: GREAT WEEKEND… GREAT RIDE… GREAT COMPANY

RIDE RULES
Riding in a group requires you to follow certain procedures and guidelines in order to
keep the rides safe, cohesive and enjoyable.
1.Arrive at the departure point with a FULL TANK OF FUEL. Fuel stops will be made as
required along the way. The time given is DEPARTURE time. The nominated ROAD
CAPTAIN leads the group. DO NOT OVERTAKE HIM/HER.
2.A motorcycle requires a full lane in which to operate safely. We ride STAGGERED
FORMATION and not side by side.
3.We use only ONE LANE of a multi lane Highway. That is the side the Road captain is
using.
4.A rider will be nominated to ride at the rear of the group. It is his/her responsibility to ensure
that the riders DO NOT GET LOST, and to render assistance if necessary.
5.The group as a whole MUST NOT STOP FOR AN INDIVIDUAL as it can be dangerous to
have the whole group stop on the side of the road. The tail end rider will stop and give
assistance.
6.When we do stop as a group be sure to park well off the road.
7.Always signal your intentions to change lanes. KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE behind the rider
in front. Check your mirrors often and CONCENTRATE ON YOUR RIDING.
8.If every rider can see the RIDER BEHIND him/her in the mirrors, the group should not get
split up. ADJUST YOUR SPEED to do so.
9.We ride AS A GROUP TO AND FROM our destination until we split up to go home. KEEP
THE GROUP TOGETHER on the road.
10.The ride will be listed as a HOG or NON HOG. On a HOG RIDE only Harleys may be
ridden but friends and visitors may meet at the destination.
On a NON HOG ride, members friends and visitors may ride non Harleys but at the rear of the
group.
In both cases any friends or visitors will be the responsibility of the MEMBER WHO INVITED
THEM.
