Rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist, we celebrate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News and providing spiritual growth, support and service with love. Founded by Italian immigrants a century ago, today our parish continues the tradition of extending a loving, caring and affirming welcome to all who join us as we Continue Our Journey of Faith. Pentecost 2015 - B My brothers and sisters in the Lord! Today we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. The coming of the Holy Spirit on that first day of Pentecost was not a once-and-for-all event but rather, the beginning of His permanent presence in the Church. It is by virtue of our baptism that the Holy Spirit is closer to us than we dare imagine. Whenever there are hearts open to receive Him, the Spirit of God is poured out, inspiring minds to undertake their mission as representatives of Jesus. This feast brings home to us that God calls us to a deeper relationship with Him and wants us to share in His life. It is an invitation to enkindle the fire of love as well as to stir up our baptismal call. We don’t always know when the Spirit moves us and yet we are often surprised by the power that drives us into action. Whenever we go beyond our own selfish indifference and reach out in genuine concern to people in trouble, it is then that the Spirit of God is at work guiding us and giving us renewed strength to turn, upside down, accepted human values and the will to move along in a new direction. As we face the many trials and crosses in life, as well as the difficulties and disappointments which can leave our daily lives in tatters, we stand in need of the help of the Holy Spirit, whose presence makes such a difference to our outlook. Jesus has promised that the power of the Spirit will come if we ask for Him. It is important that in prayer we leave the door of our hearts open to invite Him in. We become different persons and changed people to the extent that we allow the Holy Spirit to disturb our complacency, uproot our mediocrity and make way for fresh growth. If we allow the Holy Spirit to work, we are permitting Him to lead us and to bring us that joy, peace and love, which we all want in our lives. As we celebrate this day, let us thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who works in countless hidden ways to deepen our faith, fill us with strength and inspiration, and renew our lives. As you know, yesterday Deacon Antonio and his classmates were ordained to the Priesthood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Our newly ordained Father Antonio will celebrate his Mass of Thanksgiving here at Holy Family next Saturday, May 30, at 5:30 P.M. We remind you that there will be no Italian Mass next Saturday; the 5:30 and 7:00 Masses will be combined. Please pray for all of our newly ordained as they begin their new assignments. Next Sunday, May 31, Most Rev. Thomas Donato will join us with the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation at 4:30 P.M. There will be no 7:00 Mass next Sunday. If that is your usual Mass, please join us at the 4:30 celebration. Please pray for all of our young adults as they receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Have a great Memorial Day weekend and please be safe if you are traveling. Peace, Fr. Joe KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BABY BOTTLE FUNDRAISER 2015 Just a reminder...The Knights of Columbus are still collecting Baby Bottles for their 2015 fundraiser to make a Change for Life. However, if one of us does not utilize our gifts, God’s plan goes unfulfilled. Some important work is left undone.
