HOLY FAMILY SCHOOL NEWS: Do your children use
personal technology in school? Our Fifth Grade is provided
individual Netbooks, while our Sixth through Eighth Grades
enjoy the use of personal iPads. There is also a set of
classroom iPads that rotates through Grades K-4, which gives
all of our students exposure to over 40 educational
applications. These “apps” cross all content areas and
academic disciplines! The use of such technology enables our
students to receive instant feedback from their teachers,
maintain and organize class material, and addresses the need
for differentiation in instructional methods. As more high
schools move in this direction, the students of Holy Family
School are ahead of the curve upon entering freshman year!
Registration for the 2015-2016 school year is in progress. For
more information or a personal tour, please contact us at
610-933-7562 or office@myholyfamilyschool.org for more
information.

Good Health, Good Sense
During the cold & flu season it makes sense to take
steps in the interest of good health. First, if you are
sick it can be an act of charity to refrain from being
around others. Second, you may want to exchange
the Sign of Peace with a nod of the head rather than a
3/042
handshake.

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
February 2015: Two Become One T o prepare for the W orld M eeting
of Families and Pope Francis’s visit, we are studying a catechesis on family life called Love is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive. Each month, our
parish is reflecting on one chapter. Previous monthly reflections are online
at PhillyEvang.org/wmof. You can order the catechesis and learn more
about next year’s big event, at WorldMeeting2015.org.
Chapter 4: Two Become One
Our first three chapters reviewed basic Christian faith. We saw how confidence in Jesus opens the door to faith,
enabling us to know God and what God has done in history. God creates male and female in his image, and makes
a covenant with Israel and the Church. God is faithful to his promises, even when we sin. Because God loved us in
this way, we spend our lives trying to return our love to God and share it with our neighbor. In this month’s chapter
and in the chapters to come, we will study the implications of these doctrines for marriage and the family. When
husband and wife promise to love each other as God loves us all, they make a commitment to love not only
romantically, but also with mercy and forgiveness. Our culture sometimes teaches us to think of marriage as a
negotiable contract between two individuals who happen to feel sexual chemistry. This view of love is a recipe for
instability, since it is still premised on individualism and the waxing and waning of romantic feelings. The
Church’s alternative account of love enables us to transcend the culture of individualism and become who we were
created to be. Founded on Christ, sustained in the sacraments, Catholic marriage builds humility and self-sacrifice
into the dynamic between male and female. As this month’s chapter explains in more detail, sacramental marriage
creates intimate communion even in times of suffering and hardship. “Love is our mission,” as our catechism’s title
declares, because Christ’s love frees us from false, shrunken accounts of love and makes us fully alive.Christopher C. Roberts, catechism editor
Did you know? The World Meeting of F amilies is for everyone, whether you are married, single, celibate, or
consecrated! Talk topics include marriage, parenting, grand-parenting, celibacy, dating, fostering vocations, family
life and much more. Visit the website for the list of speakers and talk titles: WorldMeeting2015.org.
Parish Family Alive!
Up & Down, Down & Up, Reaching OUT
In the past few weeks we have considered the movement of the priest’s hands going
from up to down, from down to up. This last Sunday before Lent we look at hands
REACHING OUT.
The priest offers us PEACE and asks us to offer one another peace. So, we reach out to
one another: a handshake, a bow, a caring look of our eyes. And, in this REACHING OUT,
we realize that this offering of PEACE is really not meant just for us, we who share these
pews in this church.
This offering of PEACE calls us beyond this church, beyond our own family. This PEACE is
meant to be so much a part of us, that our very presence gives this gift to others.
Yet, our daily REACHING OUT is not always so generous and gracious; this inner part of
us, that should be peace, can be a bit tattered, a bit torn, it needs restoring … but then,
isn’t that what Lent is for? --- so our parish journey continues … Happy Beginning of Lent!
