Parish Picnic News Due to earlier conflicts, this year’s MGC Parish Picnic has now been rescheduled to Sunday, September 13. Planning is underway for the picnic to be the kick-off event celebrating MGC’s 90th anniversary (Dec 8, 2015). Please save the date and let your families and friends know --- all MGC alumni and former parishioners are invited to the picnic to get the big celebration underway. You won’t want to miss it! From the Desk of Father Dan Dear friends, Last weekend at the Masses and in the bulletin the news went out that I would soon be leaving MGC for a new assignment in Florida, and that soon-to-be “Father” Art will become the main sacramental minister for the parish. I am sure that the news was greeted with a mixture of joy and sorrow. In times of transition like this it can seem as if everything is changing, and we can quickly find ourselves feeling adrift. But that is exactly when we need to take a closer look at the people who contribute so much to the stability of our parish. MGC is so lucky to have such veterans around, both volunteers and staff members. On the school side we have Mrs. Shaw our principal, a 24 year veteran. I often remark at how amazing it is that for the past 40+ years MGC School has had only 3 principals: Fr. Bruce, Ms. Neu and now Regina Shaw. That consistency contributes greatly to an atmosphere where our children know what is expected of them, and we all know that children thrive on stability! Along with the administration we have so much stability among our staff: Mr. Versnik (“Coach”) celebrated his 25th years as our physical education instructor this week; and Ms. Maureen Connell, who continues to make a miraculous recovery, graced our classrooms for 34 years! On the parish side, Mrs. Sue Puls (17 years) and Mr. Adolfo Delgado (14 years), continue to be such strong anchors, along with our diaconal staff, Dean Collins and Andy Meuler. And when it comes to volunteers we are really blessed with the contributions Fred Hoepfl and Ray Pelt make to our buildings and grounds team, to Jack O’Dell, Don Roethig and Janet Mason who spearhead St. Vincent de Paul, and to all the members of Parish Council, especially to our president Steve Prueher, and to Lucille Schultz whose weekly accounting always keeps us current. I know it is always dangerous to start naming and thanking individual people for fear of omitting someone. And this listing is completely off the top of my head. But I just wanted to underscore the reality that, whereas there will be changes in the near future, there is also tremendous stability here at MGC. And it is a stability that promises a very bright future! Love Fr. Dan MGC St Vincent de Paul Food Pantry Needs Your Help! Special food donation and collection May 30/31 & June 6/7. Our MGC SVdP Food Pantry volunteers have been quietly distributing food to those who are in need. Our supplies are currently running short. Please consider donating to our pantry. There will be boxes with a sign in the church vestibule for you to leave your donations. You can also help restock our shelves by purchasing a filled bag at Sentry on Lisbon. We always appreciate monetary donations. SVdP uses this money towards buying food and gift cards through our Scrip program which are then given at intervals to those in need. If you choose to donate money, please put your cash or check in an envelope marked “SVdP Donation” and place in the weekend offering collection basket. SVdP greatly appreciates your generosity! May Crowning Mother of Good Counsel School held its annual May Crowning May 14. During the Month of May -- a month both named for and dedicated to Mary -- Catholics have long honored Mary by placing a crown on her image. We asked students to bring flowers, purchased or from family gardens, to present to our Blessed Mother on this special day.
