We need your help getting there and we’re willing to work for it! While we will be fundraising in the months to come, each family is responsible for contributing $500 – this works out to be about 2/3 of their total trip cost. We have already had requests from parishioners looking to hire out yard help, set-up/clean-up for events, etc. If you have any opportunities for our teens, please contact the youth ministry office. (annie@ollnovato.org; 897-2171 x277) Thanks! KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS PARISH BLOOD DRIVE MARCH 22 IN THE PARISH HALL 8am to 1 pm BRING YOUR ID AND TRY TO EAT BEFORE DONATING ALL DONORS WILL BE ENTERNED TO WIN TWO BOTTLES OF WINE FROM BEVMO THE NEW COVENANT When the prophet Jeremiah coined the term “new covenant” he was actually doing something quite radical. For the Jewish people, there was only one covenant, the one made between the Lord God and Israel through Moses at Mount Sinai. For Jeremiah to suggest that God would somehow supersede the covenant with a new one would have sounded audacious to Jewish ears. But in this way he is a predecessor of Jesus who, in the Gospel of John, is continually portrayed as superseding the past, establishing the reign of God in a new way. And in today’s Gospel passage, Jesus the “new covenant” speaks the language of his “new commandment” of love when he tells of the dying grain of wheat, and of our own need to die to self in order to be raised with Christ. As Lent ends and we prepare to enter into Holy Week, the dying grain of wheat serves as an excellent symbol of the kind of dying and self-sacrifice to which disciples are called, a symbol of that new covenant written deep within our hearts. FATHER’S LETTER WILL RETURN NEXT WEEK ARE YOU A REGISTERED PARISHIONER? IF NOT, CALL THE RECTORY TO BE INCLUDED IN OUR PARISH MAILINGS AND TO RECEIVE THE WEEKLY CATHOLIC SAN FRANCISCO NEWSPAPER FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE. FROM THE DESK OF THE PAROCHIAL VICAR Dear Friends, In his Lenten message for 2015, Pope Francis asks us to “make our hearts firm” (Jas 5:8) and to be “merciful, attentive and generous.” Embrace his call to mercy by reaching out to those in need. Be attentive to the Lenten call to prayer; be generous with your time and treasure. “Through prayer, charity and humility before God, people receive a heart “which is firm and merciful, attentive and generous, a heart which is not closed, indifferent or prey to the globalization of indifference.” Pope Francis says in his Lenten message. During Lent, the Church asks us to surrender ourselves to prayer and to the reading of Scripture, to fasting and to giving alms. The fasting that all do together on Fridays is but a sign of the daily Lenten discipline of individuals and households: fasting from certain foods, but also fasting from other things and activities. Likewise, the giving of alms is some effort to share this world equally – not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents. Have a good week! SI NO, llame a la rectoría A INCLUIR EN NUESTROS CORREOS PARROQUIA Y RECIBIR EL PERIÓDICO SEMANAL CATÓLICA SAN FRANCISCO DE LA ARQUIDIÓCESIS.
