A weekend retreat for Christ followers
who desire to learn and practise intercessory prayer.
‘Avocat’ is OLD French for a person who pleads on someone else’s behalf. Intercessory prayer is joining
the Holy Spirit, our Advocate, in pleading for others and the will of the Father for them.
We are asking Jesus to teach us how to pray for the Father‘s will, and how to speak in his authority
over things that oppose it. This unique retreat is to inspire and equip prayer teams toward effective
intercession for our family and friends, missionaries, ministries, and churches.
Many of us believe in prayer but often feel inadequate and unfocussed. Strategic prayer is essential to
cooperating with God’s Kingdom work. This retreat is a prayer ‘practicum’ so that our prayers can go
beyond occasional ‘well wishing’ and fridge magnets.
Who is this retreat for?
Avocat is for anyone interested in learning more about Intercession, improving your intercessory prayer
life and/or joining an Intercession Team. Missionaries may be present with their prayer teams. Churches
may send teams to receive training. The retreat is also conducive for other ministries or prayer teams to
be equipped for non MB Mission objectives.
What are the key objectives?
We will teach and practice hearing God’s voice, speaking with authority, community discernment and
testing. Time will also be given to forming teams, setting expectations, and exploring various prayer
strategies (prayer rooms, prayer walks, prayer trips, etc)
Who will be giving leadership?
This is an MB Mission retreat lead by its staff and associates. All teaching will be consistent with our
organizational prayer values and experience. Our guest speaker is Wendy Clarke from Williams Lake
BC. Wendy has had a critical role in prayer training, intercession, and discernment alongside our MB
Mission senior leadership. Wendy has a passion for intercession and to see the church equipped in the
area of prayer. As well as serving in a variety of leadership roles in her home church, she has spent
many years co-leading a weekly intercession group, spearheading city prayer and been a member of
a national prayer initiative. Her favorite pastime is having outdoor adventures with her husband and
family.

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place.
When he finished, one of his disciples said to him,
“Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
