All welcome! st century life-long learners and leaders. Our third, fourth, and fifth grade students are in the process of taking PARCC and are working very hard to make us proud! PARCC is an assessment of reading and math achievement that is scored for each child. The intent of the test is to provide educators, parents, and the public with valuable information about the student, school, school system and state performance with regards to learning standards established by the Maryland State Department of Education. Parents will receive test score information regarding their child(ren) once available. We are thankful for the opportunity to work with your children every day. Like you, we are committed to helping your child achieve academic success. Together, we can help each child to be successful. This school year is passing by so quickly, but we want to take the time to wish all of you a very happy spring. Spring cannot come soon enough with all the snow and missed school days we’ve experienced. We appreciate all you do to ensure your child’s daily success. Instilling consistent routines and the importance of coming to school each day and on time are skills that will serve your children well their entire lives. Next month: Spring Break Friday, April 3—Sunday, April 12 Page 2 Gator Gazette Special Education Liaison The Special Education Resource Center and the PTA Council of Baltimore County announce a joint effort to encourage greater parent involvement in your children’s education. Parent representatives are volunteering to inform, support, and assist other parents in their school communities whose children are receiving special education services. Perry Hall Elementary School’s PTA representative for special education is Milena Kumcheva. If your child is currently receiving special education services at PHES or you would like to learn more about special education programs and resources in your community, please email Milena at mimikum@gmail.com. Kindergarten Registration 2015-2016 Perry Hall Elementary School will hold its Kindergarten Registration for the 2015-16 school year on April 16, 2015. Pre-K registration will be on April 23. Contact Mrs. Bragg at 410-887-5105 for more information. We will send out registration materials in March. Please pass this information on to any neighbors who may be attending Pre-K or kindergarten next school year. Parent University The goal of this Parent University is to provide centralized access to resources that support parents in guiding their children to academic success and enhancing personal growth and family wellness. Page 3 Gator Gazette Destination Imagination On March 28th, Perry Hall Elementary was represented in the Destination Imagination Creature Feature Tournament at Towson University. The team used technology, problem solving techniques, creativity, and teamwork to create a solution to their unique Creature Feature challenge. Thank you to the following students for showing their Gator pride!! 24 Club Tournament M&T Bank once again invited Baltimore County students in Grades 5-8 to the daylong 24® Games Challenge Tournaments. The annual event pits school teams against one another in a challenge of solving mathematical puzzles involving single-digit and double-digit numbers and integers. PHES had 4 final participants at the school level: Allyson Rizzo, Drew Neff, Lily Deal, and Jaclyn Johnstone. Adrian Montoya, Fiona Jenkins, Grace Hill, Congratulations to Jaclyn Johnstone on becoming the winner of our school!! Ariane Casas, Timothy Chang, Lily Dinh, Erin Murphy The county-wide tournament will be held at the North Baltimore Plaza Hotel, on Saturday, March 28. Go, Jaclyn! State House Display Congratulations to Zoie Bailey, whose artwork is displayed in the State House Complex. Zoie even received a signed letter from Delegate Pat McDonough! Congratulations, Zoie!!! Character Corner The Values of the Month in March are Fitness and Skill! You can use the poems below to help your child understand and demonstrate these values. Encourage your child to represent these values at school and he/she could earn a Golden Gator! Fitness “When I am fit to run the race, The other horses I can outpace.
