This year’s diocesan goal of $2,100,000 provides a large amount of the income required to sustain diocesan ministries and services throughout the diocese. It will cost nearly $3,200,000 to completely fund the ministries. It is important to know that 100% of your contribution to the Bishop’s Ministry Appeal Trust is used exclusively and solely to support the programs and ministries as previously described. All the funds collected over our parish goal will remain at Presentation Parish. How do I make my pledge to the Bishop’s Ministry Appeal? You are asked to complete a pledge envelope and indicate Church of the Presentation and place it in the collection basket during the Offertory of the Mass. Contributions can also be made by contacting the Diocesan Development & Stewardship office at (209) 546-7643. To learn more about the BMA, visit the Diocese of Stockton webpage at: stocktondiocese.org/event/2015-bishops-ministry-appeal. That meeting included members of our parish team, pastoral council, finance council, school advisory council, school faculty and administration. Under the competent guidance of Ron Holverstad, we reviewed our parish Mission Statement, our Vision Statement, and our Values and Goals. We also revisited the survey results from last spring and identified the following areas to investigate and develop further. Technology— Outreach— Family Faith Formation—Stewardship Parish Today we share our plans of Outreach to non-participating parishioners, Catholics whom we do not know, and our non-Catholic neighbors. OUTREACH Celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism of Infants: • On the anniversary of an infant baptism, the parish will send a “congratulation” card to the family and remind them of programs in the parish that will nurture their faith. • Remind them of our new pre-school. Remind them of toddler time during our Sunday Masses. Celebration of the Sacrament of Matrimony: • On the wedding anniversary, the parish will send a “congratulation” card to the couple. • Share the schedule of baptismal preparation classes in the event that the Lord has blessed them with a new-born. TBD: • Design a home visit program (somewhat along the lines of the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses) that would have members of the parish visit their neighborhood and share information about what is going on at Presentation Church—a simple INVITATION: More to come…………………….. ADULT FORMATION Question of the Week/Pregunta de la Semana March 22 Fifth Sunday of Lent Gospel: John 12:20-33 Adults: Name several ways I have sacrificed my own desires to be of help to others? Children: How have I given something up to help my family, a classmate, or a friend? Evangelio: Juan 12,20-33 Adultos: ¿De qué maneras me he sacrificado para ayudar a los demás? Niños: ¿Cuándo he dejado de hacer una cosa para ayudar a mi familia, a un compañero de clase o a un amigo? GOT PRAYER? Please share it with a child of God… The children of Presentation School and the Religious Education Program are preparing to receive their First Holy Communion with our Church community in April and in May. Each child has decorated his/her own Eucharist ornament. In the first week of March, these ornaments will be displayed in the baptismal font in the center of the church. We invite you to take an ornament and we ask that you pray for this child daily during their preparation. On behalf of the children and families, we thank you. We believe that this will make it an extra special time knowing that someone is praying especially for them while they are preparing for their Eucharistic Journey. COMMUNAL PENANCE SERVICES Cathedral of the Annunciation Monday, March 23 @ 7pm St. Anne, Lodi Tuesday, March 24 @ 7pm MARCH 27—6pm STATIONS OF THE CROSS AND FISH FRY All are invited to participate in the Stations of the Cross Fish Fry served in Guadalupe Hall $10—Adults $7—Ages 12 and under Please pay at the door. MINISTRIES, EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS SOCIAL JUSTICE MINISTRY RESTORATIVE JUSTICE Opportunities for volunteers The California Health Care Facility in southeast Stockton is a prison hospital where the prisoners are receiving various levels of medical and nursing care. The Catholic chaplain, Deacon Porfirio Cisneros needs help with parish-type ministries, such as a Eucharistic minister at a weekly Communion service and monthly Mass, RCIA sponsor, Bible studies and faith sharing, and visiting those confined to their beds. For more information, call Deacon Cisneros at 209467-4110, or Susan Turpin, parishioner, sl.turpin@gmail.com at 639-8840. I was in prison and you visited me. (Matthew 25:36) PRESENTATION FIFTH SUNDAY FUND “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 Thanks to all our parishioners for your ongoing support. Your donations over the past three years have helped parishioners in need stay in their homes, keep their utilities turned on, pay for medical services, and much more. We still have many parishioners who are struggling with finances in these difficult times. They are all around us at Mass. They only come forward when their needs are too great for them to handle alone and God has sent them to their parish family for assistance. This is the purpose of the Fifth Sunday Fund. If you, or if you know of a parishioner that needs temporary financial assistance, please contact John (957-2618) or Gloria (474-0474) or email us at: presentation5thsundayfund@yahoo.com. Requests are handled confidentially. Blaire. Each year the Italian Catholic Federation presents the Bishop with a generous burse to assist in the education of our diocesan seminarians, as well as a spiritual bouquet. The event begins with a Mass at 12 noon on Saturday, March 28, at St. Stanislaus Parish, 1200 Maze Blvd., Modesto. Mass will be followed by a dinner and program. Dinner - $25/adult — $12.50/under 12 years. Call Josephine Weber for reservations at (209) 478-1374. STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS Fifth Sunday of Lent The climactic event of Jesus’ passion and death is drawing closer; a time when the great confrontation between Jesus and the powers of darkness take place. Jesus invites his disciples into a great mystery with curious pronouncements: Those who love their lives just as they are will lose them. If a grain of wheat dies, it will bear much fruit. When Jesus is lifted up, he will draw all to himself. The Christian steward knows life can’t be lived in complacency. We are called to die to self, bear more fruit, be raised up with Jesus. In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus brings discomfort to those who are comfortable. Jesus urges us to step out of our “comfort zone.” How will we respond to Jesus? Monsignor’s Corner In prayer ask Christ to tell you about himself, and quiet your heart so that you can hear his answers. Get to know him in the people around you, especially in the “distressing disguise of the poor” as Mother Teresa once said. The life of a disciple is not easy, but as St. Peter once said, “To whom shall we go?” (Jn 6:68) Only Christ has the grace to strengthen us and divinize us. During Lent, let’s open ourselves to this saving Presence. Msgr. Larry HELP! FATHER SURESH IS IN NEED OF WHEELS! The good news is that Father Suresh passed his behindthe-wheel driver’s test. The bad news is that Father needs a vehicle in order to fulfill his ministry here at Presentation. He is in need of a generous donor to assist him in procuring a vehicle. If you happen to have an automatic, second-hand car to donate to the parish (a tax write off), please contact Juanita at the Ministry Center at 320-5710. For your information, a large portion of his monthly salary is sent to his home diocese to help support the formation of the very full seminary in India. ATTENTION REGISTERED NURSES Presentation Parish is looking for a Registered Nurse to reinstate the health ministry program. This ministry was led by our parish nurse Bobbie Holt, until she retired. Thank you, Bobbie, for your dedication and service to our parish. This is a volunteer position with a modest stipend. There is a four-day required training in June. The training will be out of town; travel expenses will be provided. The health ministry works to expand the parish community’s knowledge about wellness and increase their access to health services. Clinics are held one Sunday per month. The clinic provides blood pressure checks and other health screenings. Flu shot clinics will be held each fall, and monthly reports will be required. The nurse will also be responsible for developing a health ministry committee. For more information, call Deacon Mike Navarec, Sr., at 209-474-0474. In Remembrance † Kathleen (Cookie) Cantaloupi † Garnett Quinn Altar Servers, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, and Ushers: Please sign up in the sacristies to serve for Holy Week.
