HOW TO LOOK YOUNG
Dr Roger Warne gave a very innovative and humorous
account of some of the memorable moments in his
working life to members of the Club on 9 July 2014
under the title “How to Look Young”.
Unfortunately, many of our members could not be
present that evening, and those of us who heard him
agreed that he should be asked to address the Club
again soon.
Australia. Except for a 10-year spell in Melbourne, he
has remained in Western Australia all the time. As
members are aware, he specialises in Geriatrics
Medicine..
VACANT POSITION
Do you want to make a positive contribution to the
Club, by taking on the task of keeping members and
friends abreast with what is happening?
The position of Bulletin Editor is still available, and
Rajah is looking forward to receiving your phone call /
e-mail.
SPORTS EXCHANGE
This is the week when all your questions about the
Sports Exchange will be revealed. The Project Team
will make a presentation at the meeting on
Wednesday 16 July 2014.
Roger first came to Perth in 1973 for a short spell, and
liked the place so much that he applied for a position
in Charles Gardiner the following year and migrated to
Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay, District 9455
Do you want to be part of this exciting project right
here in Perth? Make sure you do not miss this
meeting. Bring along your friends who are into sports
and would like to give a hand.

HANDS ACROSS THE OCEAN
good work your Club has done in the past 6 years, and
the great work Rotary has done in 100 years!!
Invite them to our meetings. No obligation of any
kind. No hard sales talk.
MICROSCOPES TO SCHOOLS
This is the signature project of our Club, with
microscopes donated to primary schools in Western
Australia and the Eastern States. The microscopes are
paid for by the local Rotary Clubs. The aim is to
inculcate the interest in science amongst young
children.
The photo shows DG Olu Olowu of District 9110 in
Nigeria (3rd from left) presenting a Photo Therapy Unit
to officials of the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, Lagos.
Our Club paid for the Unit, which is used to treat
jaundiced babies.
Another example of how Rotary is changing lives
across the world.
INFORMING THE COMMUNITY
There are many good people out there in the wider
community who want to contribute in one way or
another towards changing the lives of the less
fortunate.
However, they are not aware of the work of Rotary
and of the range of projects that our Club carries out.
More importantly, that we will welcome them with
open arms, and provide them with the medium for
helping people, both within our community and
globally.
That is one of the feedbacks that came through at the
brainstorming session the Club held on 2 July 2014.
What can YOU do to rectify the situation?
That is correct. Talk. To your extended family, your
friends, your colleagues, your chemist, your dentist, ….
they constitute the wider community. Tell them of the
Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay, District 9455
Alinta Energy is so impressed with the benefits of the
project that it has covered the cost of 342
microscopes. These will be distributed to 12 schools in
the Bunbury region, at a ceremony on 23 July 2014 at
the Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. Prof. Lyn
Beazley (the retired Chief Scientist of WA and the
source of the idea for the project) and Alinta Energy
representative Bean Meakins are expected to be
present, together with the Project Coordinator Di
Collins.
PRE-LOVED MEN’S CLOTHES
Do you or the men in your family have pre-loved
clothes that now do not fit because physical
dimensions have changed (lost 5 kilos!)? Mana Inc is
looking for clothes that can be used when the
disadvantaged men need to go for official meetings
and interviews. Sorry, they do not want the tracksuits
or the t-shirts with words that bring smiles to your lips.
Just normal business clothes that you want to discard
because they no longer fit or are of the “wrong”
colour.
For more information, please contact Ken Collins on
9385 0471.

DRIVER AWARENESS EDUCATION
The Rotary WA Driver Awareness Education program is
set for 4 August 2014, at the RAC Driver Training
Centre near Perth Airport. Day Coordinator is Mike
O’Hara .
DID YOU KNOW?
80% of all sickness and disease – killing more
people every year than all forms of violence,
including war – is simply a result of unsafe
water and lack of basic sanitation.
THE ROTARY SOLUTION
Wasrag (Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group)
was formed on March 22nd, 2007 and recognized by
Rotary International. In spring 2010 Wasrag launched
Start with Water, a program designed to provide
support to Rotary Clubs around the world.
Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay, District 9455
Start with Water is the response to Rotarians’ desire to
have a major impact on the life and livelihood of
people by helping to provide lasting and sustainable
safe water and sanitation solutions.
Rotarians are uniquely qualified to deliver sustainable
solutions. They understand the culture and values of
the local communities to which they belong. They are
attuned to political considerations and can pinpoint
problems before they become hurdles.
To find out more about WASRAG, its activities and
membership go to www.wasrag.org. The annual
membership fee is US $25.
ROTARY ACTION GROUPS
A Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of
Rotarians, family members, and Rotaractors who are
experts in a particular field, such as microcredit or
water and sanitation. Group members share their
expertise by collaborating with clubs and districts on
service projects.
WASRAG is one of the 18 Action Groups registered
with Rotary International.
MY ROTARY
Are you registered at MY ROTARY? It is the Members
Site of Rotary International, and has all Rotary
information relevant to members. All members are
encouraged to register at MY ROTARY, if you have not
already done so. Go to www.rotary.org, and follow
the directions. You will need your ID number, and this
is given in the Club’s Membership List sent to all
members by Di.
