CHANGING YOUR RESIDENCE
OR PHONE NUMBER
In a large parish, keeping the information on parishioners up to
date is a difficult task. You can be of immense help in this
regard. If you move or change your telephone number, please
contact the parish office (267-6644). Not only will this help
avoid confusion, but it will also save the cost of paying
additional charges for returned mail. Thank you, Karen
Adametz.

This week is in-pew solicitation for the
Annual Catholic Appeal. As you saw in the
DVD presentation last week, and in the
brochure, the Catholic Appeal touches so
many people. As branches on the vine, we,
as St. Patrick Parish are an integral part of the Vine of God’s
Love in Eastern Connecticut. Please carefully consider making
a gift. As you know, the Lord will not be outdone in
generosity. I remember a homily a priest friend once gave
entitled, “Two Seas”. In this homily he compared the Sea of
Galilee, lush, full of life, the scene of all of Jesus’ miracles,
and the Dead Sea: Called dead, appropriately, because it gives
nothing back. Wouldn’t you like to see all aspects of your life
like the Sea of Galilee: lush, full of life, full of miracles? Step
out in faith and remember, God loves a cheerful giver. Please
know that I, too, am making a substantial sacrifice. I have
pledged $1,000.00 to the campaign. If you are on a tight
budget and struggling with bill payments, don’t worry, the
smallest gift is of inestimable value. Participation in the ACA
is a wonderful way to celebrate our Catholic heritage and
identity: Wouldn’t it be great to have 100% participation?
This weekend we see that the man born blind is washed in
the pool of Siloam and healed. All of us need healing and
cleansing. We are journeying to Easter and it is there in the
baptismal font that the healing waters flow. I personally am
very excited about the Holy Week schedule. With our new
organ and choir the liturgical rites promise to be inspirational.
Listen closely to the following excerpt from Pope Benedict
XVI’s book The Spirit of the Liturgy: “Then Moses and the
people of Israel sang this song to the Lord (Ex 15:1) Year by
year, at the Easter Vigil, Christians join in the singing of this
song. They sing it in a new way as their song, because they
know they have been ‘taken out of the water’ by God’s power,
set free by God for authentic life. The Revelation of St. John
draws the bow back even farther. The final enemies of the
People of God have stepped onto the stage of history: the
satanic trinity, consisting of the beast, its image, and the
number of its name. Everything seems lost for the Holy Israel
of God in the face of such overwhelming odds. But then the
seer is given a vision of the conquerors, ‘standing beside the
sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. And they sing
the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the
Lamb (Rev. 15:3)’ The paradox now becomes even more
powerful. It is not the gigantic beasts of prey, with their power
over the media and their technical strength who win the
victory. No, it is the sacrificed Lamb that conquers. And so
once again, definitively, there resounds the song of God’s
servant Moses, which has now become the song of the Lamb.”
As we approach Easter and the Song of Moses and the
Song of the Lamb we are reminded that the songs of the people
of God of old are our songs now. We conquer through singing.
We conquer through the Mass. We conquer as we worship as a
parish community remembering that just like David in today’s
first reading we have been anointed with holy oil. Bill
payments, pressures and stresses of life got you down.? Not to
worry, you will conquer through song, liturgical worship and
the Lamb, Jesus Christ. Be of Good Cheer! He has won the
victory for us.

Fourth Sunday of Lent
Introduction-Liturgy of the Word:
Dear friends, God has called us here today to open our eyes to
the great gift of our salvation in Jesus Christ. As we hear the
gospel story of the man born blind who is given sight by Jesus,
let us pray, along with our elect who will celebrate their
second scrutiny today, for the insight to see who God is calling
us to be this Lent and for the rest of our lives.

Nurses’ Notes
National Donate life Month in April, is a month dedicated to
honoring organ and tissue donors and helping the community
understand the importance of registering their decision to
donate. Here are the facts:
 You can register to be a donor online at
www.donatelifenewengland.org.
 All major religions support organ and tissue donation as
the ultimate act of charity and a final act of love and
generosity towards others.
 Anyone can be a potential donor regardless of race,
ethnicity, or medical history.
 If you are sick or injured and admitted to the hospital, the
number one priority is to save your life. Organ, eye and
tissue donation can only be considered after you are
deceased.
 When you are on the waiting list for an organ, what really
counts is the severity of your illness, time spent waiting,
blood type, and other important medical information, not
you financial status or celebrity status.
 Organ and tissue donation does not interfere with the
ability to have a funeral with a viewing. Through the
entire process, the body is treated with care and respect.
 There is no cost to the donor or their family for donation.
Most transplants are paid by the recipient’s private
insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.
 In the United States, over 106,000 people are waiting for a
life-saving transplant. Every day, 18 people will die
simply because an organ is not available.
 A donor can save or improve the lives of us to 75 people.
donated organs include, heart, lungs, liver, kidney,
pancreas, and small intestine. Donated tissues include
bone, tendons, corneas, heart valves and skin.
 The Donor Registry is first person consent in order to
protect the wishes of the individual. If a registered donor
is eligible to donate upon death, the family will not be
asked to give consent for donation to occur, but they will
be supported throughout the process.
Organ and tissue transplants offer patients a new chance at
healthy, productive, normal lives and return them to their
families, friends and communities You have the power to
change someone’s world by being a donor. It’s about living.
It’s about Life.
