Father Nagle is on vacation this week. He will
return on August 1st. In his absence, you may
wish to reflect on the following article written
by Most Reverend Gerald F. Kicanas, Bishop of
Tucson.
Change happens.
Just take a look at your
grade school picture; you will know what I
mean. Change happens throughout the span of
our lives. We change in appearance. We
change in interests. We change in behavior.
Change happens. History records changes that
have taken place in every society, in every
culture, in every organization.
Some changes mark progress. Horse-driven
carriages have given way to combustion-engine
cars. Combustion-engine cars are giving way to
hybrids.
Typewriters succumbed to the
emergence of the computer. The photocopier
replaced the messy stencils on the mimeograph
machine. Fax and e-mail have lessened our
reliance on post offices.
Some changes mark decline.
Regimes
collapse, businesses fold, stock portfolios fall,
homes are lost, and churches close. Change
characterizes
all
life,
personal
and
organizational.
Change was the slogan of Barach Obama’s
presidential campaign in 2008. Posters, buttons,
bumper stickers, and T-shirts bore the words
“Change you can believe in.” The message
promoted the idea that things could be different
and better. His election marked a momentous
change: for the first time, an African American
is president of the United States.
Change happens.

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Introduction-Liturgy of the Word:
My dear friends, what a banquet God has prepared for us
today! Water, wine, mike, grain, and enough loaves and
fish to feed thousands. Let us come and be nourished at
God’s holy table of word and Eucharist, so that we may
have the energy to go out from this church and bring
sustenance to our sisters and brothers who are hungry in
spirit.
