Psalm 99 1 Thessalonians 1: 1-10 Matthew 22: 15-22 MINUTE FOR MISSION: Learning Life Skills in Winnipeg It’s –40˚C in Winnipeg in January. Two hours before the official start of the lunchtime drop-in at West Broadway Community Ministry, people are already sitting at the tables playing cards, talking, and enjoying the warmth. Many live in the surrounding rooming houses, and the drop-in, housed in Young United Church, is an important part of their daily routine. It’s their community. “I would still be in my house on all kinds of medication,” says Kelly Ross, who now works at West Broadway, helping in the kitchen and supporting others who are walking a similar road. Kelly first came to West Broadway five years ago, and he is slowly turning his life around. Putting a stint in prison, drug addiction, and mental health issues behind him has not been easy, but with the support of West Broadway’s staff, most of whom are volunteers from Oct 22 9:30 am – 11:00 am Kindred Sisters 12:15 pm Armchair Travel - Art Museum 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm Choir Practice - Sanctuary local churches, he is moving into employment for the first time in two decades. “I realized I wasn’t alone, that other people had the same problems, and that helped me so much,” Kelly says. “We provide a safe space,” explains community minister Lynda Trono. “Without the Mission and Service Fund we couldn’t run this program, and people would continue to be isolated in their rooms and shelters without any real support.” Thank you for your support of Mission and Service, which allows West Broadway to open its doors to the most marginalized people and give them a sense of love and hope. Please give generously. NOON LUNCH & VIDEO STUDY We enjoy a tasty meal together & then we begin our study with: “Living the Questions” Thursdays 12:00 – 2:00 pm, from Oct 2nd to Nov 6th There is no cost for lunch or sessions. The purpose of the program is to improve the nutritional status of these individuals, to provide a regular social contact and check on their safety and well-being. Meals on Wheels enable recipients to remain comfortable and independent in their own home. Volunteers deliver meals to the homes of people unable to shop or cook. Hot, nourishing meals are prepared at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital kitchen. Minto United Church has been assigned the week of Oct 20th - 24th. Anyone who would like to help with this community outreach, please call Linda McLaren at 306-694-1209. Another school year is underway, and Sunday School is a vital part of our Minto church life. For all of us – including our children and youth – need to learn as much as we can of Jesus teachings and His love. Barb, the Sunday School Coordinator, has a whole teaching team in place to take care of Tots to Grade 12 (and a Nursery is available). Children and youth can be registered for classes before and after church services. All are welcome!
