ENTRY PROCESS
Entries will be on-line through Athletics Canada (AC) website at: http://www.xcountry.athletics.ca/
All Entries and confirmation are the responsibility of the athlete (including carded athletes). Entry forms must
be completed with all required information. Incomplete entry forms will be rejected. Registration/entry forms
can be completed by club and should be done for each athlete. This procedure is for Youth, Junior, Senior
and Masters entries only.
Online Entries
All entries will be completed online and must be paid using a credit card and will be automatically confirmed
(pending validation of membership).
When registering, please ensure to:
• Include citizenship information (all non-Canadian Citizens must be properly identified – including
pending and landed immigrants)
• Keep record of your credit card transaction
It is the entrant’s responsibility to provide this additional information. Incomplete entries will not be
recognized.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Championships will be run in
Vancouver’s Jericho Beach Park, one
of Canada’s most picturesque urban
ocean waterfront parks. The course is
run entirely on grass, trail and hard
packed woodchips. The majority of
the 2km loop is flat with some rolling
sections and a hill.

COURSE OPEN FOR INSPECTION
Athletes will be allowed to preview the course on Friday November 28 from 12: 00-4:00 p.m. only.
On event day, athletes should not warm up or cool down on the course. The surrounding park areas provide plenty
of room for warm up and cool down.
Friday Bus shuttle from Hotel; Depart Hotel at 12 noon & 2:00 PM. Return from Jericho Beach Park 1:30 PM &
3:30 PM.
FACILITIES AND OTHER SERVICES
The Championship Headquarters will be the Delta Airport Hotel, 3500 Cessna Drive, Richmond.
Results, media, medical, and National Team services will be at the race site.
Food and beverage, complimentary parking and showers at the Jericho Sailing Centre – 300m west of the race
site. Please bring your own towel.
Bus Shuttle:
Buses will leave the Delta Airport Hotel on Saturday at 8:00am, 9:30am, 11:00am and 12:30pm.
Buses will return to the hotel leaving Jericho Beach Park at 8:45am, 10:15am, 11:45am, and following
the awards ceremony at 4:30pm.
Drive time to the course from the hotel is 25 minutes.

DOPING CONTROL
In accordance with Athletics Canada’s Policy, doping control testing may be carried out at the Cross Country
Championships. If so doping Control will take place at the Jericho Sailing Club, 300m west of the race site.

ELIGIBILITY
For the 2014 Canadian Cross Country Championships, Y o u t h , Junior & Senior only, the following athletes are
eligible to compete:
Athlete Citizenship Eligibility
1. Canadian Citizens who are Athletics Canada members;
2. Only Canadian Citizens are eligible to be declared Canadian Champions and receive a medal, award, or
financial recognition.
3. All athletes must be a member of Athletics Canada in order to be eligible to compete. Membership must
be obtained through one of Athletics Canada's provincial branches.
Age Groups
1. Youth Championships - Athletes born in 1997, 1998, 1999 or 2000
2. Junior Championships - Athletes born in 1995, 1996, 1997 or 1998
3. Senior Championships - Athletes born in 1996 and earlier

Non Canadian Citizens
The following non-Canadian citizens are also eligible to compete:
Note: Non-Canadian citizens are not eligible to be declared Canadian Champions and receive a medal, award or
financial recognition.
1. Canadian Permanent Residents (Landed Immigrants) who are Athletics Canada members and full-time
residents of Canada;
2. Athletes who are claiming refugee status, and foreign athletes who are temporary residents of Canada
due to business, study or family reasons, providing that they are Athletics Canada members and have
been a resident in Canada for at least six months prior to the date of competition.
3. Foreign athletes who are in good standing with their national athletic organization, who have been
invited and have had their applications accepted, (please contact David Weicker,
dweicker@athletics.ca for an application by October 15, 2014.);. Acceptance of these entry
applications are at the approval discretion of Athletics Canada and Athletes will be notified by October
31, 2014 if they have been accepted. Athletes in this category will not be required to obtain Athletics
Canada membership.

Masters
The Canadian Masters Championships are open to all male and female masters (age 35+ on race day). Male
and female competitors will run in the same race. All Master athletes, if resident in Canada, must be members
of Canadian Masters Athletics (CMA) by taking out a full master’s membership of any Athletics Canada
provincial affiliate. If resident outside Canada, master athletes must be members of USATF or another World
Masters Athletics (WMA) National Affiliate.
CHAMPIONSHIPS AWARDS
INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Youth, Junior and Senior
Championship medals will be awarded to the first three eligible finishers in each division at the Awards
Ceremony. Only Canadian Citizens can win individual Canadian Championship medals.
Masters
Top 3 male and female in each 5 year age Master’s category will receive CMA medals. Individual age group
Master's medals, team awards, and the GAAT Trophy will be presented at the Jericho Sailing Centre, 500m
west from the race site, at 12:30pm. In addition, the top 3 male and female Canadian finishers will receive
CMA medals. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

CANADIAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
Youth, Junior and Senior
A -Team/Club Championships & B - Team/Region-Branch Championships
There will be a Canadian Championship competition for Club and Region-Branch in the Youth, Junior and Senior
categories.
Championship medals will be awarded to members of the top 3 teams.
PLEASE NOTE – Youth / Junior / Senior Club teams DO NOT need to declare. Region/Branch teams will need to
declare at the Technical Meeting. If you cannot attend the Technical Meeting, please send your declarations to

Team Size for both Team Championships (See A & B above):

6 with 4 to score for all divisions (Yth girls, Yth boys, JR women, JR men, SR women, SR men)
Note that all competitors on a Club team must be bona fide paid members of the same club.
As far as teams are concerned, Canadian permanent residents, non-Canadian residents (claiming refugee status),
foreign athletes and athletes that have been members of Athletics Canada for at least six months prior to the
Championships, can be scoring members for their team. However, they still are not eligible to win individual
Canadian Championship medals.
TEAM SCORING
Youth, Junior and Senior
Team scores will be based on the official order of finish. Team scores will be tabulated based on scoring
positions. Ties will be decided in favour of the team whose last scoring member finishes nearer to the first place
position.
Masters
Club teams will be:
Masters M35-39/W35-39 – 4 Runners, 3 to Count
Masters M40-49/W40-49 – 4 Runners, 3 to Count
Masters M50-59/W50-59/ M60-69 – 4 Runners, 3 to Count
Masters M70+/W60+ – 3 Runners, 2 to Count
Team scoring will be based on total time. Awards will be given to all members of winning teams.
Females may run on male teams (maximum of one per team), but not the reverse. Note that all competitors on
a Club team must be bona fide, paid members of the same Club; provincial teams do not qualify as a Club team.
Teams must either be declared at the Technical Meeting or by Email. Email declarations must be sent to Mark
Nelson info@race daytiming.ca by 7:00pm Thursday, November 27, 2014. Provincial team competition for the
"GAAT Trophy" will be based on the top four (4) age-graded provincial results.

NATIONAL TEAM FUNDING
The co-hosts, Hershey Harriers Athletic Club and Ocean Athletics Track & Field Club and sponsors, are pleased to
announce that they will be providing support to the Canadian National Team cross-country program. Support
will be used for travel to the 2015 NACAC and IAAF Cross Country Championships.
NATIONAL TEAM CROSS-COUNTRY PROGRAMS
The 2014 Canadian Cross Country Championships will serve as the selection trials for the 2015 National Team
competing at the 2015 NACAC Cross Country Championships (Date and Location TBA) and the IAAF World Cross
Country Championships (March 28, 2015 in Guiyang, China).
For the official selection criteria for these teams, please refer to the selection documents on the Athletics
Canada website - http://www.athletics.ca/page.asp?id=22 (Athletes born in 1996-1997-1998 are eligible for
Junior Championships). For more information on the National Cross Country program, please contact Dave

and Senior’s. The show will be about 45 minutes in length and will be free of charge. All athletes, friends and
family are encouraged to attend. Souvenirs will be available for purchase.
MASSAGE
A team of certified Registered Massage Therapists’ will be available by donation at the race course Saturday.
