The Season of Remembrance will soon be with us, particularly poignant as we think about the first year of World War One. The All Souls Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving will be held on Sunday 2nd November at 3.00pm and for those who come to that Service there will be an opportunity for the names of people they are remembering to be read out, along with those whose funerals have taken place during the last 12 months. Letters of Invitation to the All Souls Memorial Service to the next of kin of the people whose funerals have been held during the last 12 months have been sent out but there are still a few to be delivered. PLEASE PICK UP those addressed to a road near you and deliver this week if possible. Do encourage anyone you know who would like to remember a loved one to come to this Service. And the important season of Advent, leading to Christmas will then follow. The Town Christmas Lights switch on is Saturday 29th November when we will be holding our popular family St Nicholas’ Workshop. who are being enrolled as full members of the Mothers’ Union, and to Hilary Mason who has joined our group since moving from Devon. The Advent Carol Service on Sunday evening 30th November. Time to be confirmed Tower Fund and Stone Sponsorship. If you take a walk around the base of the tower you will spot some of the new stones being used in the reconstruction of the South West buttress. Each is coded according to its designated place and eventually the sponsors of each stone will receive a certificate identifying their area of sponsorship. There is also a model underneath the display board in Church. This week’s Coffee Morning raised £149.50 for Church Funds. Thanks to all helpers and supporters. There is a small team of stone masons working on the project and during weekdays their tapping can be clearly heard. There are still areas of repair to be sponsored, with our shortfall now reduced to £12,500. So please, if you haven’t already sponsored a stone, please join with the townspeople and local community in ensuring that this project can be completed by mid December.
