ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

Into Your Hands, Father by Fr. Wilfrid Stinissen -
In the spiritual life, we need a central idea: something
so basic and comprehensive that it encompasses
everything else. According to Carmelite Father Wilfrid
Stinissen, surrender to God, abandonment to the One
who loves us completely, is that central reality. The life
of Jesus shows us the centrality of abandonment, for it
is truly the beginning and the end of His mission on
earth. ONLY $11.95!
The gift shop has spiritual resources and items for your
gift-giving needs. Come in for Catholic books, rosaries,
crucifixes, candles and a nice selection of religious
articles. Be sure to check out our clearance corner!
There is a section of Steve Ray’s books, DVDs and
audio cd’s. Come and get yours while they last!
Thank you to all our volunteers,
who keep the gift shop open and running!

FAITH FORMATION
OFFICE
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD:
Have you ever seen a group of children gathered at the
front of the Church, by the baptismal font during the
9:00 a.m. Mass? Have you wondered, what are they
doing? They are participating in the Children’s Liturgy of
the Word. Children’s Liturgy of the Word is geared
towards children ages Kindergarten to 5th grade, although
older children are welcome to join us to help encourage
the younger children.
What do we do in Children’s Liturgy of the
Word? Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a scripture
reflection with the children. We focus on the Sunday’s
readings which are proclaimed from the Children’s
Lectionary. The Children’s Lectionary is a simpler version
of the readings compared to those read at Mass. After
the readings we give the children an opportunity to reflect
on God’s Word and explore how it connects to their lives.
We then end our time with prayers similar to the prayers
of the faithful heard in Mass.
This year we will be moving our meeting place to
the south side of the church by the pews along the
back wall. Children may join the leaders five minutes
before Mass starts. They will return to the church before
the Liturgy of the Eucharist begins.
Please encourage your children to join us on Sunday
mornings during the 9am Mass for Children’s Liturgy of
the Word.
BABYSITTING
Babysitting is available during the 9 a.m. Mass on
Sundays. Children 6 months through 3 years old are
welcome to be dropped off in the Youth House (the
building north of the parish office and Smith Hall) after
8:45 a.m. and picked up immediately after Mass.

NIGHT OF HOPE – Now Accepting Reservations
Night of Hope, the signature event for the Catholic
Schools Office, will celebrate Catholic education at every
level — from preschool to college. Msgr. James Shea,
president of the University of Mary, will be the keynote
speaker. The North Dakota-based university opened a
Tempe campus two years ago. His talk will appropriately
address “Catholic Education: Walking With The Saints.”
The event is set for Nov. 1 — the feast of All Saints — at
Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel. Now in its seventh
year, Night of Hope will carry on its tradition of
celebrating Catholic education and the gifts it offers for
students, alumni and the community at large. Night of
Hope benefits the diocesan Catholic schools tuition
endowment fund with the goal of providing scholarships
to every student seeking a Catholic education. Last year,
$120,000 in emergency aid was given out from Night of
Hope proceeds to various Catholic schools, SS. Simon &
Jude being one of them.
If you would like to attend this event and sit with a group
of other SSJ parents, please RSVP to Mary Jo in the
Development Office at your earliest convenience.
Call 602-242-1299, ext. 149 or e-mail her at

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
In the Gospel today Jesus says: “Repay to
Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God
what belongs to God.” When God is the
center of our lives there is no problem with
giving others their due.
As we listen to what Jesus is saying to us, let us live our
lives as thankful, grateful followers of Jesus, praying
always that we will give others their due. We hear his
call when we respond with mercy and compassion to the
needs of the poor, the homeless and the forgotten. We
are indeed giving to others when the SVdP Food Boxes in
the rear of the Church are filled with food or when we
drop our alms into the Poor Box to help hurting families
care for their basic needs. We know how important it is
to keep the electricity on in our homes, especially after
the recent storm and power outages. The coins you drop
into the Poor Box help to keep the utilities going for
families who are down to their last cent. This is not an
exaggeration but a real problem for the poor. Thank you
for your generous love of the poor.

generosity makes it possible for local priests, religious,
and catechists to reach out to communities, families
and children in desperate need, bringing the light

TIENDA DE
LIBROS Y REGALOS
DE LA CATEDRAL
Del Libro-del-mes de octubre y noviembre,
del Padre Lankeit.
Into Your Hands, Father (En Tus Manos, Padre)
