Isaiah speaks the words of the Lord to those who accuse God of ‘giving in’ by forgiving the wicked man who turns back to God. God, Isaiah reminds us, is rich in forgiving, and as far away from the human point of view as possible. This is a simple, but deep reading: there are two main sections: first the call to the wicked man to change his ways, with the assurance that he will be forgiven: this can be read with a sense of pleading or appeal. Thursday, November 6 7:30 am Eleanor Gonella – Son 11:30 am For the Faithful Departed Friday, November 7 7:30 am For the Faithful Departed 11:30 am Lola Raimo – Bequest Saturday, November 8 8:30 am For the Faithful Departed Sunday, November 9 Gospel: Using a parable, Jesus got the Jewish leaders Saturday, November 8 5:00 pm Peter & Bertha McGovern & Family - Family to admit their error. He described a vineyard owner (God) who sent slaves (prophets) to collect his share of the harvest from the tenants (Jewish leaders). But the tenants killed the slaves. The landowner sent more slaves, but the tenants killed them, too. Finally the owner sent his son (Jesus). Of course, they killed the son. Jesus summarized his point by telling the chief priests and elders that what they had rejected (their place in the kingdom) would now be given to the Gentiles. God has given us a great harvest in our children. The harvest may not be perfect or a bumper crop in all ways, but nevertheless, the harvest is a precious gift from God. Like the greedy tenants, there are things in our lives that would take us away from our responsibilities to our children. What are the things we give in to and how have we justified their interference? Perhaps it is our job. Of course, we need to support our families, but is our lifestyle worth a trade-off in the amount of time we spend with our children? Do our friends, hobbies, ambitions sometimes get in the way of family time? Today’s gospel challenges us to appreciate the fruits of our harvest. "Those of us who call ourselves Christian do so because we believe that the life and teaching of Jesus Christ are the personification of truth, sincerity, and authenticity, and, in a practical sense, simply the best way to live. If we are correct in this belief, and if people of the twenty - first century really are hungering for authenticity and the best way to live, then as Christians we must ask ourselves questions such as: Why are more people not enthusiastically embracing Christianity? Why, in fact, are so many people so hostile toward Christ and his Church? - - -Is it possible that we failed to engage them? Did the hypocrisy of individual church members or leaders obscure their experience of God? Did we ever really welcome them?" These meetings give our members a chance to pray and work together—to exchange patterns and ideas. A prayer shawl or lap robe, which can be had for the asking, may be comforting to someone limited in activity or going through a difficult time. To request a shawl please call the Parish Center. Let us continue to pray for those making shawls and those who receive them.
