TODAY'S READINGS
First Reading -- The woman who fears the LORD is to be
praised (Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31).
Psalm -- Blessed are those who fear the Lord
(Psalm 128).
Second Reading -- Brothers and sisters, you are children of
the light (1 Thessalonians 5:1-6).
Gospel -- Since you were faithful in small matters, I will
give you great responsibilities (Matthew 25:14-30 [14-15,
19-21]).
The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass (c) 1969,
1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All

GET READY
The Letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are among his
earliest writings, and are driven by his belief and the
belief of the entire early Christian community that the
return of Christ was imminent. Therefore, to devote
time or attention to anything else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor receded a bit. Today
we may wonder, when we hear these readings about
the coming end-times, if we should take them to heart.
What should we do when we hear that the day of the
Lord will come upon us "like a thief at night"? (1
Thessalonians 5:2) Does this mean we are to stop our
long-range goal-setting, get rid of our yearly calendars
and planners, or stop putting money in the college education fund? Of course not. What it does mean is that
we need to change our lives, living like children of the
light and illuminating the world around us with the
light of the gospel. Then, on that day, when the details
of our daily living become unimportant, we will be
ready to find our peace and security in Christ Jesus.

Let us pray for peace in our
St. Louis Community
Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson, Archbishop of St.
Louis:
Jesus said: “ Blessed are the peacemaker, for they will be
called children of God.” Christ calls us to promote peace, not
provoke violence. Our Lord Himself suffered the most terrible of injustices, because although incapable of doing wrong,
He was nevertheless condemned to suffer and die on the
cross. And when one of his disciples responded by lashing
out in violence he said “Put away your sword!” Inspired by
the example of Christ, I fervently renew my call to everyone
in Ferguson and the greater St. Louis community: be an instrument of peace amid the chaos! Work for calm in the turmoil!
Saint Michael Prayer
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in the day
of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and
snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray
and do thou O Prince of the Heavenly Host, cast into hell
Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl throughout the
world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Pro-Life Holy Hour
The monthly Deanery Pro-Life Holy Hour will be
held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 7 pm at Our Lady
of Lourdes Adoration Chapel with prayers and Benediction
for Respect for Life, offering reparation for 56 million babies killed by abortion, and that America will once again
protect the lives of the unborn. Come join us as we pray for
Good’s forgiveness for the evil that lurks throughout
or society.
PRO-LIFE NEWS:
Thanks to those who helped set up and tear down for the
ECAMRL Rummage Sale last weekend. This was the most
help we have had in recent years and helped the sale run
more efficiently. Thanks to those who donated items for the
sale.
Missouri Right to Life Political Action Committee
( MRLPAC) celebrated the recent election victories of the
Pro-Life candidates on Nov. 4. These candidates support the
protection of life from conception to natural death.
MRLPAC endorsed the winning candidate in 90% of the
races. MRLPAC continues to lead the nation in working for
Pro-Life legislation. Thanks to all those who voted Pro-Life
in the last election.
The recent 40 Days for Life campaign ended with more than
500 babies (that we know of) being saved. This makes the
total more than 9500 since the campaign began 7 years ago.
Locally, at Planned Parenthood, we continue to have 2-4 turn
-a-rounds per day. More than 100 Planned Parenthood workers have changed their hearts and left the industry; 60 abortion centers have closed their doors and 12 referral centers
for abortion have closed. Your contributions from the recent
Baby Bottle Drive will aid babies being saved thought
Thrive, Coalition for Life and our very own Pregnancy Assistance Center. Thank you for your generosity. Special
thanks to Matt Nowak of St. Gertrude Parish for serving as
our coordinator for our KC council for this campaign.
Next meeting: Nov. 20, 7 pm, Pregnancy Assistance Center.
All are welcome.

School News
Dear St. Gertrude Parish,
As you saw in the bulletin last week, we are in the
process of placing a Chapel within our school. This will allow our
students many more opportunities to worship throughout the day
without having to cross the highway to head to Church. We have
been very blessed so far with donations which have helped defray much of the cost. I would like to offer the Parish as a whole
to consider making a donation to our project. We would like to
put about 40 chairs in the chapel which will allow for more than
one class to worship at a time. In our attempts to make it look
less like a classroom and more a prayer space that deserves
reverence and respect, we would like to use something other
than card table chairs or stacking chairs. We have found some
very nice wooden chairs that we would like to purchase for the
Chapel. The chairs cost $25 each. We are looking for families to
consider donating a chair to the Chapel. Any family who donates
a chair to the Chapel will have their name on a plaque on the
chair acknowledging this donation. If you are interested in making a donation for the chairs (or for that matter to any of our other
needs for the Chapel), please place your donation in an envelope
marked "Chapel" and drop it either at the Parish Office, the
school office, or in the collection at a weekend Mass. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all you do to support Catholic education at St.
Gertrude School. Together we make St. Gertrude Parish ALIVE
IN CHRIST!
God bless!
