TODAY'S READINGS
First Reading -- I will rescue my scattered sheep
(Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17).
Psalm -- The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I
shall want (Psalm 23).
Second Reading -- As in Adam all die, so too in Christ
all shall be brought to life (1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28).
Gospel -- Whatever you did to the least ones, you did to
me (Matthew 25:31-46).
The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for
Mass (c) 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the
Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.
THE LORD'S FLOCK
Sheep are high-maintenance animals. They are not very intelligent. Without guidance and care, especially in a climate
like Israel's, they would die quickly from predators, starvation, or just their own slowness. The scriptural image of us
as the Lord's flock is not terribly flattering to us, since it is
only the never-ending diligence of a watchful shepherd that
allows the flock to survive.
The feast of Christ the King was intended to call the world
back to Christ as the sole power of the world, to bring back
a flock that had been scattered by many negative forces of
the growing industrial, scientific, and war-torn world of the
early twentieth century. It is fitting that, as we celebrate
Christ the King, we hear about Christ the Shepherd who
cares for us and who, likewise, will be there at the end of
time. Interestingly enough, as the Gospel illustrates, our
own destiny is determined by the way we have been
"shepherds" to the rest of the flock.

Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ,
King of the Universe
This Sunday, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our
Lord Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe. It is the last Sunday of
the liturgical year. On this day, we contemplate the kingship of Jesus our Redeemer.
Pope Benedict XVI, has spoken of the power of Christ the
King in this way: “It is not the power of the kings or the great people
of this world; it is the divine power to give eternal life, to liberate
from evil, to defeat the dominion of death. It is the power of Love
that can draw good from evil, that can melt a hardened heart, bring
peace amid the harshest conflict and kindle hope in the thickest
darkness.”
From the Desk of
Deacon Charlie:
As we approach the celebration
of Thanksgiving, may it remind us to live
lives of gratitude constantly for as Fr. Bob
reminded us last weekend, we in this
country have been abundantly blessed with literally everything we NEED. I guess what pulls at us then are those
things we WANT. We live in a society where there is that
tension between needs and wants. And so let us take the
time to look back and thank God. Let us look forward and
trust God. Let us look around and serve God. Let us look
within and find God. The day before Thanksgiving we have
an all day/ all night Adoration, called Night Watch. If your
time and schedule allows let us as a parish gather before the
Lord to be grateful.
Deacon Charlie
Catholic Campaign for
Human Development
Your generous support of the CCHD funds community and economic development programs across the US
that help poor and marginalized people join together to make
decisions, seek solutions to local problems, and find ways to
improve their lives and neighborhoods. Economic development initiatives help create new businesses and jobs. CCHD
also provides educational opportunities for Catholics to learn
about poverty, stand in solidarity with those affected by it,
and reflect on their own responsibility before the great need
of others.

School News
Dear St. Gertrude Parish,
As we enter the week of Thanksgiving, I want to share some of
the things that I am thankful for this school year.
-I am thankful for our wonderful teaching staff that always goes
above and beyond what is asked of them.
-I am thankful for the support of our Pastor Fr. Phil in whatever
new idea we try.
-I am thankful for the office staff at both the school and the Parish
level which has helped make this a very easy transition this year.
-I am thankful for all those who have donated to our chapel project so far, helping us to provide another place of worship for our
students and staff.
-I am thankful for the continued generosity of the members of St.
Gertrude Parish for their continued support of Catholic education,
even if they do not have children in our school.
-I am thankful for the generosity of others who contribute to our
tuition assistance program, making Catholic education affordable
for all.
-I am thankful for our wonderful students who make coming to St.
Gertrude a joy day in and day out.
Most importantly...
-I thank God everyday for giving me the privilege of working at
St. Gertrude School.
May God continue to bless you and your families this
Thanksgiving season.
