Be thankful for all you have and share with others. The Dublin Food Pantry is now preparing for its annual Harvest of Hope special distribution. This will provide about 350 families with all of the traditional fare necessary for a home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner. This year parishioners can participate in one of two ways: Option One: Provide potatoes and gravy The St. Brigid Social Action Committee invites parishioners to donate boxed potatoes and gravy for inclusion in the Thanksgiving boxes provided to client families of the Food Pantry. Collection of the donations will be after all Masses this weekend, November 8 & 9. Please deliver the donated food to Hendricks Hall (Immke Room) and place the items in the designated boxes. Option Two: Provide an entire Thanksgiving dinner (value $50) We are still in need of 40 Thanksgiving Meals. If you can help, please sign up soon! The EPIC Middle School Youth Group invites parishioners who have the means, to donate an entire Thanksgiving box of food, which will be delivered directly to the homes of client families of the Food Pantry by EPIC students and parent drivers. These families may not have the means to get to the Food Pantry to pick up their meal and delivering the food will give our youth the opportunity to experience helping someone in need first-hand. Parishioners would provide everything from the following list in a sturdy box, and ideally will drop the box off at St. Brigid parking lot at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, where students will unload the box from your vehicle and reload it into a parent driver vehicle for delivery. Alternative arrangements for drop off can be made. The list includes: Turkey breast (6 lbs), Boxed potatoes, Canned gravy, Boxed stuffing, Canned corn, Canned green beans, Canned cranberries, Canned beets, Assorted fresh fruit (bananas, apples, oranges), Pumpkin pie and Rolls. If you choose this option, please contact Kim VanHuffel at kvanhuff@alumni.nd.edu or 614-593-5173. Thank you for your generosity! BRIGID OF KILDARE CHURCH DUBLIN, OHIO RELIGIOUS EDUCATION...St. Brigid of Kildare Religious Education Program offers opportunities to allow parishioners to improve their knowledge and practice of Catholicism. Through year-long classes for students preschool through grade eight, high school youth ministry, seasonal studies, speakers, Bible Study, and specific courses offered on site for adults, all parishioners are encouraged to know and share the truths of our Catholic faith. This week our country celebrates Veterans’ Day, a day set aside to honor all those who have served our country in war and in peace, who have offered their lives for the good of others. Let us pray for those men and women who have been Prisoners of War, those who are still being held in either physical or mental captivity because of their service. Each year St. Brigid Religious Ed sponsors “Holiday for Heroes”, originally known as “Operation Cookie Storm.” Begun during Operation Desert Storm, this one-day event has sent literally thousands of homemade cookies, cards, and handmade ornaments to men and women serving overseas who won’t be home for Christmas. Along with the cookies, cards, holiday napkins, and ornaments, each handdecorated gift bag includes a Prayer for Peace. Parents, children, teens, all parishioners are invited to participate in this effort to bring a “touch of home” to these men and women who are literally offering their lives for the good of others. As the gift bags are packed into the boxes, the students are reminded of the sacrifice these men and women are making every day of their lives. All of this happens again this year on the first Saturday of December, this year December 6, from 9 a.m. until noon. At noon, the boxes are loaded into cars, taken to the Post Office, and sent on their way to all corners of the world. Hopefully St. Nicholas, whose feast we celebrate on December 6, will help to speed the boxes on their way so that they arrive in time for Christmas. Where are they sent? This depends on YOU! Do you know of someone serving overseas who could distribute gift bags to their fellow service men and women? If so, please call, or send their mailing information to the Religious Education Office. Please also let the office know how many people these men and women are serving with and how many gift bags they will be able to distribute! If YOU would like to be a part of the actual activity of this day, baking cookies (chocolate chip or sugar cookies) at home, or making cards, ornaments and gift bags here, brightening the lives of those who will become Veterans, please contact St. Brigid Religious Education Office at 614761-1176. SAVE THE DATE…. ST. BRIGID WOMEN’S RETREAT January 23rd - 25th Were Not Our Hearts Burning Within Us? NOVEMBER 9, 2014 St. Brigid of Kildare Elementary School News At Saint Brigid of Kildare School, we strive for our community to model and display respect for all people, regardless of differences among individuals and their needs. Our goal is for students to appreciate others, to be courteous towards others, and to recognize and to take into consideration the thoughts, ideas, and God given talents of others. As we continue on our journey to discipleship, our school families are each designing a bumper sticker about respect. Each bumper sticker includes the word “respect,” a slogan for respect relating to why we should be respectful, and three words to describe respect. Once the designed bumper stickers are all returned to the school, they will be displayed in the halls so students can see each other’s ideas of respect and be constantly reminded to model and display respect for all people. The Saint Brigid of Kildare School community provides Catholic faith formation and strong academic foundations to inspire life long learners and leaders in the twenty first century. Rooted in Christ, we offer a challenging and integrated Catholic education to children in preschool through grade 8.
