Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international humanitarian aid organization
dedicated to reducing suffering and working toward the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty.
With nearly 3,000 highly skilled and committed staff, Concern has an on-the-ground presence in 25
of the world’s poorest countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Caribbean. Concern
focus is in the areas of Livelihoods, Health, Education and Emergency Response. Concern has a 4Star Charity Navigator rating and meets all 20 Better Business Standards for Charity Accountability.
In fiscal year 2013, 92.2% of Concern’s expenditures were allocated to program activities.
Women of Concern Awards
Concern Worldwide U.S. is proud to host the Women of Concern Awards. Each year, this popular
Chicago event honors the outstanding accomplishments of women who reflect justice, generosity and
compassion in their work and daily lives.
2015 Chicago Women of Concern Awards Honorees
2015 Humanitarian Award Recipient
Mimi Frankel, Board Member, Frankel Family Foundation
The Frankel Family Foundation supports organizations working in the
environment, and also invests in work that reflects the particular
interests of individual Board members. This includes an interest in
supporting refugees around the world with a particular emphasis on
advancing access to quality post-primary education, and supporting
youth development and mental health in the communities where
Foundation members live. As a highly-respected and long-standing
member of Chicago’s philanthropic community, Mimi has dedicated
her time and talent to many organizations, including the Women’s Refugee Commission, the Golding
Institute and the American Refugee Committee, among others.
2015 Leadership Award Recipient
Annabelle S. Volgman, M.D., FACC, FAHA is Professor of
Medicine and Senior Attending Physician at Rush Medical College
and Rush University Medical Center, and the Medical Director of the
Rush Heart Center for Women. Dr. Volgman is the recipient of the
Madeleine and James McMullan-Carl E. Eybel, MD Chair of
Excellence in Clinical Cardiology; received her undergraduate
degree with honors from Barnard College, Columbia University, and
her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.
She is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association;
completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics and
her Cardiology and Clinical Electrophysiology fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in
Chicago. Dr. Volgman has been Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and
Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.
