[May 10 and 11 weekend of auditions for the 2013/14 season] m i s s i o n The Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) harnesses the power and joy of music to unite our city’s diverse communities and inspire social change. Our singers transcend social barriers in a celebration of shared humanity and love of music. Through intensive choral training and high-profile public performance experience (locally, throughout the U.S. and around the world), they learn discipline, develop leadership skills, and proudly represent the city of Boston as ambassadors of harmony. The Boston Children’s Chorus is comprised of eleven different choirs in four Boston locations. Of the eleven choirs, seven are located at our central Boston location on Shawmut Avenue and four are located at select neighborhood sites through our neighborhood Choir Program. providing learning opportunities to enhance our singers musical experience. BCC provides regular sessions on topics such as public speaking, networking, fundraising, college preparation, social activism and advocacy and performance preparation. local professionals, singers, alumni, and community organizations participate in these discussions. Rapid Achievement Practicum (RAP) Social Programming Rigorous Choral Program is a weekly, half hour educational program specially designed for all levels of singers to help advanced sight-reading and musicianship skills. Youth Development Program All of BCC singers are challenged to be leaders in their choirs, in their schools, and in their community. The mentor program is a formal way for singers to cultivate skills in compassion, organization, and responsibility. mentors from the more advanced choirs commit to volunteer and work with younger choirs throughout the year. Through key partnerships and collaborations with communitybased organizations, schools, arts organizations and many different religious institutions, the singers are deeply involved with their surrounding communities. These hands-on experiences allow them to see firsthandhow they are creating a lasting social and cultural legacy in and around greater Boston and how they are influencing and inspiring others to dothe same. [Choirs & Community Partners] Premier Choir (PC) Advanced singers ages 12-18. Our premier performing group offers a stimulating, comprehensive and demanding choral repertoire requiring advanced level of musical skill. The Premier Choir participates in local, national and international tours. Young Men’s Ensemble (YME) A special program to meet the unique needs of boys ages 10-18 with changing and changed voices. The Young Men's Ensemble participates in local, national and international tours. Concert Choir (CC) Dubbed BCC's "Symphonic Children's Chorus," CC has singers ages 10-16 with advanced musical skill. These singers receive intensive training in music theory, music history and foreign languages; performances include regional tours. Choral Union (CU) A choir created in 2010 to provide intense vocal and theory training for older singers ages 12-18 who have great enthusiasm for singing, but little formal musical training. Central Intermediate Advanced Choir (CIA) Advanced Intermediate singers ages 10-14. This level requires individual attentiveness, vocal skills and advacned theory comprehension while offering expanded, rigorous repertoire and performance experiences. Central Intermediate Choir (CI) Intermediate singers ages 10-14. This level requires individual attentiveness, vocal skills and theory comprehension while offering expanded repertoire and performance experiences. Dorchester Intermediate Choir (DI) Intermediate level neighborhood-based choir established in collaboration with First Parish Church in Dorchester. West End House Training Choir (WEH) A neighborhood-based choir for beginning-level singers ages 7-12, established in collaboration with the West End House in Allston-Brighton. Central Training Choir (CT) Beginning singers ages 7-12. This program develops music basics such as theory, interval training, rhythm and sight-singing techniques. Attention span and concentration are points of focus. Villa Victoria Training Choir (VV) A neighborhood-based choir for beginninglevel singers ages 7-12, established in collaboration with Villa Victoria Center for the Arts and Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA), in Boston’s South End community. Dorchester Advanced Training Choir (DAT) A neighborhood-based choir for advanced singers ages 7-12, established in collaboration with First Parish Church in Dorchester. South Boston Training Choir (SB) A neighborhood-based choir for beginninglevel singers ages 7-12, established in collaboration with South Boston Boys & Girls Club, in South Boston. In addition, Rapid Achievement Practice (RAP) is a required weekly half hour music education program specially designed for all levels of singers to help advance sight-reading and musicianship skills. “...teaching methodologies and the staff could not be more wonderful or do a better job! I have been extremely impressed with the unbelievably high quality of everyone at BCC and I know they’re doing an incredible job with all the kids.” -BCC Parent [Audition Information] Audition Requirements Audition Process Fees & Tuition -Auditionees must be between the ages of 7 and 18. Auditionees must turn 7 years old by December 31. -No prior musicial training is necessary. -A prepared piece is not required. -Audition process is quick, simple and informal. -Audition is ten minutes and includes repeating notes played on a piano, singing a song - something as easy as Happy Birthday, singing scales, and telling us about yourself. -Placement will be determined on availibility, skills, and maturity. - Fill out audition application. -Return form via email, fax, or mail. -BCC will schedule an audition time on May 10 or 11 and confirm via email. -Auditions take place at our central office location and at schools and community organizations. -All auditionees will receive a letter with audition result in June. -Registration information and registration fee due in June BCC is a tuition-based program; how ever, no child will be excluded from participation for financial reasons. Tuition is on a sliding scale, based on total family income and choir level. Tuition can range for the entire year from $50 to $1200. Each singer’s education is primarily subsidized by fundraising efforts. Tuition, when paid in full, covers only between 5% to 20% of the cost of a single child’s attendance. Tuition payments are online and can be setup reoccuring monthly if you so choose. Schedule subject to change.
