In order to make the process easier for both you and the parish, we ask that you please utilize the following information when you fulfill your commitment. Pledge Payments Remittance statements are mailed the last week of every month. If you are sending payments on a different schedule than monthly, the remittance statement schedule is the same, but you’ll receive them when you selected — semi-annually, annually, etc. In order to assist Saint Kilian with the pledge payment process over the next five years, please wait for your reminder statement before sending any payments to To Build A Church, A Church Alive. Do not send payments directly to Saint Kilian. Pledges are centrally processed, and the Diocese sends the proceeds to Saint Kilian each quarter over the next five years via our parish’s Diocesan savings & loan account. If you need to make any changes to your pledge, or if there are any errors, please send the changes to: To Build A Church, A Church alive c/o Our Campaign for The Church Alive! PO Box 4 Pittsburgh, PA 15230 If you prefer to make your payments electronically (from a bank account or credit card) please visit the Faith Direct Website www.faithdirect.net where you can create an account or sign into your current account. Once on the main homepage of your account, click “Add an Organization,” then enter the code PA162 for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, not PA191 for Saint Kilian. Next, select Saint Kilian from the drop-down menu in order to have your payments apply to the To Build A Church, A Church Alive Campaign at Saint Kilian. The remaining steps will allow you to set up your payment schedule. Finally, you will need to link your payment to a major credit card or bank account of your choosing. Tax Letters Each year, tax letters will be sent from the Diocese for the preceding year of all pledge payments, note that these are separate from the information sent by Saint Kilian for your Offertory and Parish Share participation. Please direct any detailed tax questions to the Office of Stewardship: (412) 456-3085 or email ourchurchalive@diopitt.org. It is known as a canticle. Canticles are songs and there are 10 common ones used in various prayers and liturgical settings. There are seven Old Testament canticles and 3 New Testament canticles commonly used. Recently we had the canticle of the Blessed Virgin Mary also known as the Magnificat (from the Gospel of Luke). Today’s setting is the Canticle of Isaiah. The verses are part of song celebrating God’s deliverance of Israel from disaster and destruction. The psalmist proclaims god savior and calls all Israel to spread the news of God’s saving intervention to “all the earth.” Many of you attended the various masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Our choirs worked very hard to prepare a variety of music heard before and during those masses. If you would like to hear all of their selections you can go to our special website set up to hear recordings from those masses. On your computer enter the following address into your browser and enjoy the wonderful holiday music by our talented groups! https://celtic.saintkilian.net/wiki/projects/ christmaschoirs2014/Christmas_Choirs_2014.html (There is an underscore mark between Christmas_Choirs and Choir_2014) Our various choirs can be heard at these liturgies coming up: Children’s Choir January 10th January 25th @ 5:30 p.m. @ 10:30 a.m. Adult Choir January 11th January 18th January 25th @ 10:30 a.m. @ 10:30 a.m. @ 12:15 p.m. If you would like more information regarding the Bell Choir, Children’s Choir or Adult Choir, please contact David Dreher 724-625-1665 x2113 or email ddreher@saintkilian.org. CARE NOTES: In a rack on the counter outside the auditorium at CWNC and on the shelves near the front office of the Parish Center you will find small pamphlets called Care Notes. These are short treatments on contemporary life issues from a Catholic perspective. Please feel free to take what might be of interest to you and pass them on when you have finished with them. They are free but donations are accepted. Marriage Ministry Corner Marriage Tip of the Week: “Behold, Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem.” (Mt 2:2). The wise still seek Jesus. What gifts of wisdom do you possess? A lesson learned from your childhood? A proverb that steers your life? A virtue to which you’ve struggled to be true? For daily marriage tips, visit www.foryourmarriage.org, an initiative of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Marriage Encounter: The holidays are such a busy time of the year. That along with jobs, kids’ sports and activities, and other facets of family life can emotionally, socially, and spiritually separate a husband and wife. A Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend takes you away from those things that draw you away from each other and helps you rediscover the things that attracted you to each other in the first place. Upcoming weekends Jan 23-25 in Portage, PA, Feb 27-Mar 1 in State College, PA. Reservations are limited, register early! http://www.yourmarriageisworthit.org/ for info or to register. Retrouvaille: Do you feel lost, alone or bored in your marriage? Are you frustrated, hurt or angry with your spouse? Ae you constantly fighting or do you simply shut down? Have you thought about separation or divorce? Does talking about it only seem to make it worse? A Retrouvaille Weekend can help! Jan 16-18, 2015 in Pittsburgh. 412-277-3434 to register or visit www.helpourmarriage.com. There is hope! Christian Family Movement: Our parish has a number of small faith sharing communities that meet monthly to promote Christ-centered marriage and family life. Groups are geared to life-stage such as a group with young children, teens, empty nesters, etc. More information can be found at www.cfm.org or call Lori and Gerry Crowley at (724) 816-3951 or e-mail gcrowley@zoominternet.net. CARING QUILT MINISTRY: The Caring Quilt Ministry has been very fortunate with new members and several generous donations. But as we always remind everyone - this is a parish effort and the more prayers and hands in a quilt, the more blest the person receiving it. Our next work day is January 24th from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Parish Hall in Mars. Thanks to all who continue to support this ministry. If you have any questions call Betsy Pfendler at 724-766-7435 or betsy000@zoominternet.net. Page Eight January 11, 2015 FIRST GRADE First grade is an exciting place to be no matter what time of year! All first grade classrooms offer opportunities for parents to be a part of the action. Most weeks include a weekly classroom visit from a student’s parent; this exposure provides an additional opportunity for students to experience a real world connection to their learning. Sometimes the activities are centered on upcoming holidays or seasonal activities and other times parents come to talk about topics related to their careers. Either way, these real world experiences provide the students the chance to learn and make connections to the world around them in an up close and personal way. Each parent presentation comes complete with an extension activity or craft, question and answer time, and snack of course! (Many thanks to all the parents who have already volunteered their time and talent to enlighten the youth of our school.) We are waiting with anticipation for the parent presentations yet to come this year. In mid- January, we will be pleased to announce the introduction of Bonus Boxes to our classrooms. Bonus Boxes are individual hands on learning activities that are available to students when they finish a task. There are several different themes to the boxes which include seasonal, sensory, imaginary, creativity, and engaging learning opportunities. These activities are self-guided and interest driven allowing the students to choose freely a box which will not only present a learning opportunity, but a creativity outlet as well. As you can see, first grade is both academic and active and our students are continually challenged to use their senses and engage in meaningful learning experiences.
