National World Religion Day LITURGY CORNER The color of green in the Church tells us that we are back in Ordinary Time. The other day someone asked, “Does Ordinary Time mean something special? Actually, the word “ordinary” does not mean routine, but “counted” time. We enter into these 2nd, 3rd, 4th Sundays...all counted one after another. This year our Winter Ordinary Time will be for 5 weeks until we enter into the season of Lent. Summer and Fall Ordinary Time comprises the longest portion of the Liturgical Year, covering almost six months of the Calendar. Ordinary Time challenges us with the demands of building the Kingdom. We listen to the Word of God which keeps reminding us of our call as Christians to internalize the teachings of the Lord and to live out what we proclaim. Have a blessed week! Lisa FAITH AT HOME When I meet with the children/teens for Religious Formation we begin with prayer. I usually ask them what season “of the church” we are in, what’s different in the church, or what feast day may be coming up. Many times the children tell me they don’t go to Mass. Our children NEED to come to Mass. Talk to your children about Mass. If they are indifferent or don’t like to go to Mass, explain that there are some things that we do because they are good for us, whether we feel like doing those things are not. Mass is not about feelings. It is about giving ourselves to God. It is about discovering what purpose God has for our lives. The best way to help children of all ages is by the witness of your own faith. If they see that going to Mass gives meaning to your life, they will begin to search for that meaning in their own lives. Why not read with them the readings that will be read on the Sunday? There is SO much our children could be getting out of by attending Mass. Please join us each week as we celebrate together as one family. Enjoy your week! ROSES FOR LIFE Next weekend The Elizabeth Ann Seton Council Knights of Columbus will be having their annual Roses for Life Drive at all the masses of Our Lady of Mercy Church. This drive helps support the programs at Birth Right of Dover and Birth Haven of Newton, two organizations that provide transitional housing and all appropriate services including medical for young pregnant woman. These young distressed pregnant mothers are made to feel wanted and loved and are supported in a loving caring environment. These young women often have nowhere else to turn to and these two organizations provide the help and emotional support needed. The little Rose appliqué we hand out symbolizes our support for Life in all of its stages and our carrying out of Jesus’ admonition to “take care of the little ones”. So as you leave church on those days, please help support the Knights of Columbus in this very worthy cause. May God bless you for all of your prayers and generosity. We want to make sure that our pro-life pilgrimage to our nation’s capital has maximum impact on our elected leaders; and that our marchers have an opportunity to visit with the Congressional delegations in order to press our pro-life message. Please plan on attending. Your presence, in growing numbers every year, is the best way to draw attention to the legacy of Roe vs Wade, and to persuade our leaders to eradicate it from America’s future. MARIAN HOME PILGRIMAGE PROGRAM Just a reminder about our Marian Home Pilgrimage Program. What better way to begin the new year than by journeying through it with our Blessed Mother. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board at the back of Church and we encourage and invite each of our parish families to sign up for a week to bring Our Blessed Mother into your home. You will need to pick up Mary after the 11AM Mass and return her the following week before the 5:30 PM Mass. (there is a traveling bag kept in the Meditaton Chapel) During the week that Mary spends in your home, take the time to deepen your relationship with Jesus through his Blessed Mother. Pray the rosary together as a family, place a prayer request in the prayer journal and be drawn closer to our Lord and his Blessed Mother. Keep a rosary, scapular and pamphlet so that you can continue your journey with Mary. OLMA PANCAKE BREAKFAST AND BOOK FAIR To begin Catholic Schools Week, OLMA will hold their annual Pancake Breakfast and Book Fair next Sunday Jan 24th from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
