Sunday Liturgy
Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jonah 3.1-5, 10; 1 Corinthians 7.29-31; Mark 1.14-20
Focusing the Gospel
To the point - This gospel (which begins this year's
sequential reading from Mark) is a call - response
episode similar to last Sunday's gospel from St.
John. Here, however, the call comes within the
context of Jesus' proclamation that now is "the time
of fulfillment." "The kingdom of God is at hand" in
Jesus who manifests God's abiding Presence, God's
promise of forgiveness, God's unparalleled power to
save. To enter into this "time of fulfillment," we must
leave everything behind and answer Jesus' call to
follow him.
Connecting to the Gospel
To the first reading - In both the first reading and
gospel there is a call to repentance. Conversion of
life is an ongoing requirement if we are to share in "the
time of fulfillment" and faithfully follow Jesus.
To experience - Fulfillment is a natural human goal; we
all seek relationship fulfillment, financial fulfillment, job
fulfillment. The "time of fulfillment" Jesus proclaims in
the gospel exceeds all our human expectations.
“Come after me, and I will make
you fishers of men.”
Mark 1.14-20
FATHER DUNNE MEMORIAL FUND: The parish is
establishing a Fund in memory of Father James Dunne.
Anyone who wishes to make a donation is asked to write
the check to "St. Camillus - St. Virgilius Church" and on
the memo line, please indicate "Father Dunne Memorial
Fund". In the spirit of Father Dunne, this fund will be
used to assist people of our parish. A Memorial Leaf for
Father Dunne and a Memorial Brick will be ordered to be
placed in St. Virgilius Church and St. Camillus Garden.
FOOD PANTRY: The following items are needed:
Pasta, sauce, tuna fish, canned vegetables, canned or dried
fruit, juices, peanut butter, jelly, toilet paper, hand soap.

Respect Life ~ Let us pray that nations may repent of the

SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: The two purposes of
marriage are inseparable: they are two aspects of the same
self-giving. The unitive purpose of marriage means that
husband and wife participate in God’s own self-giving
love. The two become one, giving mutual help and
service to each other through their union. The procreative
purpose recognizes that married love is by its nature lifegiving. Children are the supreme gift of marriage.
When spouses exchange their promises of loving and
permanent fidelity before the Church, their marriage
covenant becomes a participation in the unbreakable
covenant between Christ and the Church. The Holy Spirit
binds the spouses together and enables them to perform
acts of self-giving love to the benefit of themselves, their
families, and the whole Church. In this way their
marriage does more than symbolize Christ’s love; it
makes that love present in the world.
