Eddie Clark
From the President
Our Chairman of the Board of Advisors, Mr.
William P. St. Clair ’75, is fond of saying, “If you
dream it and believe it, it can happen.” Well,
during the last ten years of my ministry as President these words have been so true. As I reflect
on the last ten years and all of the accomplishments and the fact that today we stand as the
premier all boys school in our city, again Bill St.
Clair’s words ring true.
Most of all however God has truly Blessed this
school with some of the most caring, passionate, and generous alumni I
have ever witnessed. My sincerest thanks for making all of our dreams
come true.
This past year was another momentous year for our school. This year saw
new programs and capital projects become available to our students. We
also continue to help many of our students afford our school tuition through
grants, scholarships, and financial aid. This year has seen programs such as
Robotics, Construction Science, and our Brisson Center, along with capital
projects such as continued upgrades in technology, new bleachers, lighting,
and floors in our Fox Gym and much more.
Our vision and dreams are even higher now. We will be breaking ground
on our new fields at Ramp and beginning our efforts to build our new Science and Technology wing.
It is only through your continued support that we can dream big. Our future is brighter now then it has ever been. However, our challenges continue to be many. More schools will close, more free charter schools will
continue to be built, and more families will continue to need financial aid.
As I thank you for your outstanding kindness, I also encourage you to continue to support our school. The next five years will be challenging and
more changes are coming. Let us continue to make our dreams a reality.
Please feel free to stop by our school and see how your investment in us is
fulfilling the dreams of our students and families.
In Salesian Spirit & Crusader Pride,

2010-2011
ddie Clark was born and raised in Philadelphia.
All eight of the Clark children attended St. Matt’s
then the five Clark brothers went on to Father
Judge. Eddie was a standout high school athlete
and while at Father Judge, he garnered the attention of Division I coaches across the country, ultimately
deciding to accept a scholarship to play football at Texas
Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. His long-term
plan was to play in the NFL, USFL or CFL. He remembers
playing in the TCU vs. Arkansas game in Little Rock which
happened to be nationally televised. His parents and siblings would be able to see him play and it was pretty exciting. He threw a touchdown pass, unfortunately right to Arkansas defensive end, Billy
Ray Smith. Eddie always
says he most surely helped
Billy Ray get a fatter signing
bonus that year. Eddie said,
“Thank God I picked up a job
pretty quickly after realizing
making it to the pros just
wasn’t going to happen!”
Eddie is the sole owner and
President/CEO of Professional Turf Products, the
distributorship for The Toro
Company that serves all of
Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas
and the western regions of
Arkansas, Louisiana and
Missouri. The company has
locations in Houston, Kansas City, San Antonio, Tulsa and the main office resides in
Euless, TX, close to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.
Eddie tells the story of the day he was leaving Philadelphia to move to Fort Worth, right out of high school. He
was driving his parents’ car on Frankford Avenue on his
way to close out his bank account in order to take his life
savings, which totaled a whopping $300, with him to Texas.
“Texas was an entire world away. I was so nervous about
everything that I ended up wrecking my parents’ car on
the way to the bank…not a great start!” He goes on to say
that he purchased his own very first car at the age of 22; a
ten year old 1973 Buick Le Sabre, “4-door, garage kept, little
old lady church car and I thought I had hit the big time!”
While at TCU, Eddie earned his Bachelor of Business degree in Management. He met his wife, fellow TCU business
E
school student, Pamela, who happened to be a southerner
from Little Rock, and they married in 1983 after they graduated. His sales skills were already finely tuned when he
was able to ‘sell’ his future wife on the idea that being married in his hometown in his boyhood church of St. Matt’s
was the only logical choice for the wedding. So, that’s exactly what they did and people are still incredulous that
they were married in the groom’s hometown rather than
the bride’s! Eddie resides in Southlake, Texas with his wife
and they have three children; Graham (26), Hannah (24),
Hayden (21) and recent addition, son-in-law, Beau (26).
Eddie’s favorite times are spent with his family. They attend numerous football games and other sporting events
throughout the year. Eddie
loves the game of golf but
laments that he doesn’t get
enough time to practice so
he’s ‘never the “A” player’!
When Eddie turned 50,
a momentous occasion for
most, his wife and children
gave him a surprise party.
Remembering that Eddie
always talked of his Father
Judge days as truly pivotal
in his life, his wife gave a
donation to Father Judge
in his name as her birthday
gift to Eddie. That really
started the ball rolling. He
met current President, Father Joe Campellone, and
they hit it off immediately. In fact, Father Joe recently came
to Texas to perform the wedding ceremony of the Clarks’
only daughter, Hannah.
Eddie had long been active in charitable giving but none
were as close to his heart as Father Judge. Eddie said, “I
struggled in school and somehow made it through. Without the programs at Father Judge, both academically and
athletically, I don’t know where I’d be today. God has
blessed me and I have made it my mission to share my
good fortune, through the grace of God, with others. I am
absolutely thrilled and honored to be a small part of the
great things that are happening at Father Judge. My donation to Father Judge is in honor of the five Clark brothers
who graduated from the school.”

FATHER
JUDGE
CO-OP
Father Judge High School has entered into a co-operative partnership
with Drexel University‘s weServe
program from Drexel’s School of
Biomedical Engineering, Science and
Health Systems. Drexel is helping
Father Judge with our science and
math education. Drexel is providing
us with undergraduate and graduate
students with various backgrounds,
to tutor our students with a focus on
science and math. Drexel is also providing tutoring for students not involved in the Father Brisson Center,
which are being referred by teachers
and selected from a list of students
struggling in their current math
classes. Drexel would like to formulate a summer enrichment program
in math, science and technology to
be hosted at Drexel for Father Judge
Students. They are still in the beginning stages of planning for this effort.
Presently, Drexel students have
been coming weekly to Father Judge
from Tuesday through Fridays. They
have been assisting our students
with science and math, helping with
test corrections, re-teaching the lesson and providing homework assistance. Students that are not involved
with the Father Brisson Center have
also been participating in the tutoring sessions with Drexel students.
Father Judge Students have been
coming during free periods, lunch
times and from their study halls. We
are excited and happy to have the
Drexel students with us and look forward to future endeavors with them.

Future of
FATHER JUDGE Assembly
The 24th was the steamy Wednesday night in May,
that Fr Joe Campellone OSFS, President of Father
Judge chose to deliver an emphatic message at the
“Future of Father Judge Meeting.” The purpose of
this meeting was to bring alumni, Parents, local
business owners, and neighbors together to be informed on the school’s future, its rich past, and
what those in leadership positions are doing to
keep 3301Solly open and active.
The meeting opened with a phenomenal audio
visual presentation that displayed the schools students, activities, facilities, sports, and faculty. Following some opening remarks and a prayer by Father James Greenfield OSFS,
Provincial of the Philadelphia and Wilmington Provinces of the Oblates of St.
Francis DeSales, Brian Patrick King, Director of Institutional Advancement was
introduced. While on stage, King, a 97’ graduate of Father Judge spoke of his
deep community roots, his 16 years of catholic education, and what facets of the
school his position oversees. As DIA, King is involved in most aspects outside of
the educational component of the school, with a main focus being on fundraising and capital improvements.
Following his remarks, King introduced, William St Clair, Chairman of the
FJ Board of Directors & Friends of FJ, spoke to the over 600 in attendance about
what a critical role the Board plays in the success of the school. St Clair also
spoke of how the Board has spent significant capital on continually improving
the school and its infrastructure. One key element St Clair continued to touch
upon is how those in the audience could be an advocate for the school on multiple levels, a message that Fr Campellone would later deliver in greater detail. Wrapping up his portion of the presentation, St Clair informed the crowd
that under his tenure as Chairman working along side Fr Campellone, that the
school had raised nearly 5 million dollars for improvements on the campus over
the past 10 years.
The finale of this presentation was given by the school President Fr Joseph
Campellone OSFS, who over the course of his speech brought the crowd to several moments of applause. Fr. Campellone touched on how being an advocate
each day can assist the school with admissions, event attendance, and business
partnerships/sponsorships. The EITC State Tax Credit Program was an important portion of his presentation, informing those in the crowd with jaw dropping
figures, one such being his ability as president to raise nearly $500,000 a year for
tuition assistance that goes to nearly 65% of the students attending Father Judge.
Under his tenure the school has built the Mitchell Activity Center, McGonigal
Fitness & Workout Room, the Sautter Guidance Center & McGowan Library. In
addition, the Fr Brisson Center was developed to assist students with learning
disabilities. Through the Brisson Center, students are given one on one time to
review subject matter with teachers, as well as begin to develop new methods of
learning to overcome their disability. In addition the school has added Robotics
and Construction Sciences to schools long list of educational offerings.
In his closing remarks, Fr. Campellone delivered the following comments,
“No matter what may come down the road, no matter what challenges lay before us, I tell today, that so long as I am President of Father Judge, that we will
always be here. Tonight was about informing you about our school. I ask that
the Future be about you helping us inform other as we continue our mission of
educating young men in the spirit of our patron St Francis De Sales.” Needless
to say this was welcomed with great applause in a mixed crowd of various aged
alumni, parents, and “friends of” Father Judge.
Following the presentation, tours of the school were provided by members of
the student council and Fr Campellone.
BEHIND THE WALLS
A Glimpse Inside School Improvements
hile driving past 3301 Solly
Avenue, you’d get the impression that Father Judge has not
changed one bit since it opened in
1954, but looks can be deceiving. Come
down the driveway and see the Mitchell Center, a state of the art workout facility for students and student athletes
to take Phys Ed Class, hit the weights,
take batting practice, play basketball,
and hone their skills with coaches and
teammates 365 days a year.
What was once a storage annex
alongside the gymnasium, has been
renovated and converted into the
Wrestling Workout Room and Workshop for Construction Sciences, the
schools latest addition to the curriculum offering, teaching students basic
skills in carpentry, electric, plumbing,
and HVAC. Enter the Fox Gym, and
see the newly installed red and blue
bleacher system and energy efficient
LED lighting system.
If you want to talk education and
technology, pull up your seat. Every
classroom is complete with a SmartBoard and projector for teachers to use
for multiple applications and interactive learning. The school has invested
thousands of dollars this summer on
new computers, multimedia labs, and
a new wireless system.
What was once the school store in
the Cafeteria, is now the Sautter Guidance Center, providing students with assistance in making
decisions for life after Judge.
Next to the library now stands
the Fr Brisson Center. Here, Dr
Bridget Sweeney and her staff
of dedicated teachers provide
one on one time assisting students with learning disabilities
achieve their goals.
Go across the parking lot to
the Oblate Faculty House and
continue to be amazed as various sitting and recreational
rooms have been converted on the 1st
Floor into Offices that now serve the
Board of Advisors, Director of Admissions, Director of Advancement,
Administrative Assistant to the President, and the President.
All of these improvements have
taken place over the past decade
under Fr Campellone’s tenure as President of Father Judge. “The support
of theBoard Advisors, combined with
our strong alumni, has allowed me
the ability to continually change and
adapt our school to meet the needs of
our students and their families. As we
move ahead, I vow
to continue investing
in the success of our
students and the future of Father Judge”
stated Fr Campellone
when asked about
significant changes
in the school during
his tenure.

The fourteenth Hall of Fame ceremony
ollowing the script from a year
before Father Judge High School celebrated the Hall of Fame induction of
Kevin Kilkenny ’70, James (Duck) McDonald ’64, and Rev. Gerard Mahoney
OSFS, on May 5, 2011. Cescaphe’s was
once again the venue, with the cooperation of Joe Volpe ’87, who generously
helped to make the event a financial
success. Although, the purpose of the
night was not simply to raise funds for
Father Judge, it including applauding
the dedicated service and accomplishments of three individuals deserving
of the honor.
Kevin Kilkenny, longtime leader
in the Alumni Association and President’s Board of Advisors, was feted for
his public service and his dedication
and service to the school. The Pennsylvania Board of Parole had twice recognized Kevin as Parole Agent of the
Year, in 1988 and 1996, and the U.S.
Marshall’s Service previously had recognized Kevin for his work with Operation Trident, which identified and
arrested major narcotic fugitives and
violent offenders. Even the Office of
the Mayor of Philadelphia recognized
Kevin as a standout citizen, when he
rescued a man from a burning building. His continued public service and
community involvement included
work on behalf of the AOH Division
#39, the Knights of Columbus Council #1284, Big Brothers/Big Sisters,
and the District Attorney’s Youth
Aid Panel. Presently an Independent
Contractor for the NFL, Kevin was
joined by his wife Ann, and four children, Ryan ’97, Sean ’00, Colin ’01, and
daughter Megan ’05 SHHS.
Rev. Gerard Mahoney OSFS, is
known by thousands of students at Father Judge, for his calm and constant
presence as Chaplain and Campus
Minister, as well as Moderator Extraordinaire. After beginning his vocation
at Northeast Catholic High School,
8 Father Judge High School
Father first served Judge as a “Reverend Mister” in 1965, while studying at
DeSales School of Theology. He taught
History and assisted some clubs, and
then he returned again in 1972 after
his ordination. Father served as an
English instructor and Moderator
for various sports teams for a decade. After short assignments at Holy
Name High School in Reading and
Salesianum School in Wilmington, he
returned to Judge in 1992 and began
an 18-year commitment. He taught
classes, served as Moderator to the
Junior Class, basketball and baseball
e
e
teams, and advised the Fathers’ Club
and Mothers’ Club. He became Chaplain in 2001, and is best known to students of the 2000s for establishing the
KAIROS Retreat program. Father recently celebrated the 40th anniversary
of his ordination, and with his family,
enjoyed the honor of the Hall of Fame
induction.
Just one year before, James “Duck”
McDonald was at the podium – presenting his longtime friend Charlie
Huckel for HOF induction. But this
time, he was appreciated for his own
accomplishments, and followed to
the dais the introduction by his friend
who gave us insights and stories about
the care and commitment of Duck, and
his many years of service to Father
Judge. We heard of Duck’s upbringing
in northeast Philly, bopping around a
few colleges and deciding to complete
his studies at Bloomsburg University.
His entry into teaching in the Archdiocese, first at West Catholic High School
for Girls, and then at Judge, focused
on “Commercial” courses. These
eventually became a full-fledged Business Department, and Duck spent his
teaching career offering instruction
about finance, economics, marketing
and accounting. Duck’s own remarks
turned to his many years of work in
the Discipline Department at Judge.
Duck recalled Father Davis recruiting
him to an assignment where he would
have to be the stern parent figure to
wayward students, and it strangely
paralleled his 40-year position in the
Philadelphia Department of Recreation, where he was all about finding
good activity alternatives for young
persons in the city. Both in the Discipline Department and with the city,
Duck spent many years in the trenches, and rose to administrative positions, finally retiring in 2005 as a district manager. He retired from active
teaching at Father judge just last year,
yet continues as a volunteer in the Development Office. He taught a generation of young persons about accepting
responsibility for their actions, about
giving back to their schools and their
communities, and about volunteering
to support something you believed in.
Today, many know his name associ-
ated with the Huck ‘N’ Duck Crusader
Golf Classic, yet all indications are that
he’s remembered for so much more.
Duck’s wife Gail, and his son James
and daughter Megan, celebrated the
night with him.
As with all Hall of Fame ceremonies, Reverend Joseph Campellone
OSFS, president, presided over the
affair, officially inducted the new
members, and acknowledged the entire membership. Father Campellone
announced special thanks to the presenters, Tim Ginter, Frank McGarvey
and Charlie Huckel, and financial
sponsors, including Tom McGowan,
Rich Haverstick Jr., John Krol, and
Lou Guarrieri; and event coordinators
Charlie Huckel, Kevin Kilkenny, Brian
King, Frank McGarvey, Doug Rivers
and Joe Volpe.

FATHER DALTON STORY
I
t is with great pride and excitement that I announce to you
today that our new Principal is Fr. James Dalton, OSFS. Yesterday afternoon Cardinal Justin Rigali officially approved
the appointment of Fr. Dalton as the 12th Principal in the history of our school. I also personally want to thank Fr. James
Greenfield, Provincial of the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales,
for allowing Fr. Jim to serve as our new Principal.
Fr. Jim is a 1962 graduate of Father Judge High School
and was ranked 42 in a class of 555, “Right behind his classmate Charlie Boland.” Fr. Jim received a Bachelor of Science
in Mathematics in 1969 from Allentown College of St. Francis DeSales where he ranked 7 in a class of 105. Fr. Jim then
earned a Master of Arts in Theology in 1973 at the DeSales
Hall of School of Theology concentrated in Systematic Theology with an emphasis in Ecumenism. In 1975, he earned
a Master of Arts in Mathematics from Villanova University. Fr. Jim also received a Master of Science in Instructional
Technology in 1994 from Philadelphia College of Textiles
and Science, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Asked about the circumstances which bring him at last to
Judge, Fr. Jim quoted the school’s patron, St. Francis de Sales:
“Let’s not waste time in willing and wishing
for things, but let God arrange them.” Taking no exception to these inspiring words,
he admits it is good to be back home at
Judge, where the seed of his vocation as
an Oblate priest educator was nurtured.
It is great to have Fr. Jim back where it
all started at Father Judge High School.
I will be putting together a Board
welcoming event soon, so you can
welcome Fr. Jim back to Judge.

who are also FJ Alumni (John ’77, Michael ’77, Joe ’78, Tom
’79). Not only did Don’s firm directly provide services to the
school, but his brothers Joe and Tommy also donated their
time providing masonry work in the new Wrestling Room
and plumbing service in the science labs and Mitchell Center.
The end result of all their hard work was a school that
looked phenomenal to open the 2010-2011 school year. Rauchut and the staff of DMR Construction graciously donated
the labor and materials to complete the necessary work.
When asked to comment on Don’s generosity Fr Campellone had this to say, “I have had the privilege of knowing
Don Rauchut and his family for a very long time. Their dedication to the school and community is tremendous, and as
an individual, Don is a perfect example of a Salesian Gentlemen, who never lost his roots or love for Father Judge.”

FATHER
New Members Headline goes here
Each year The President’s Advisory Board recruits new members to counsel Father Campellone on
school planning and needs. Father Joe accepts the need for fresh and different ideas. At the same time,
The Board allows for a respectful end-of-term opportunity to members who have other obligations to
fulfill. This year we welcome two graduates to the Board.

Mike McCloskey, 1979, holds
a special place in Father Judge
athletic lore, and beyond. A
native of St. Matthew Parish,
Mike was an excellent student
at Judge who gained national
recognition as a three-sport
athlete, and Parade Magazine
All America for football. Everyone associated with Judge
followed his career when he went on to Pennsylvania
State University and played on the National Champions in 1982. That year he was selected All East First
Team, and was drafted into the NFL, where he played
for Houston, Philadelphia, and Indianapolis during
a five-year career. Mike followed his athletic career
into business, using his BS in Labor Relations from
PSU for good cause. He founded and is presently the
President of Cartwell Investments Partners, a $5 billion asset management firm in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. Father Judge inducted Mike into the Hall of Fame
in 2001, and today, Mike has the leadership role as
Chairman, in fundraising for the improvements to
the athletic fields at Ramp Playground. Today, Mike
and his wife Mimi live in Lower Gwynedd, with their
three children, Kiernan 15, Megan 14, and Kyle 11.
