Student Welfare
Two of the students in our school community are receiving
medical treatments, which puts them at risk if they develop
chicken pox, mumps, measles or shingles.
It is very important therefore, that you let us know
immediately if you believe that your child has contracted
or recently been exposed to chicken pox, mumps,
measles or shingles. Please contact the school office as
soon as possible so that children’s parents can be alerted
immediately.
This protection lasts for a few weeks only and must be
repeated every time the children come into contact with
these illnesses.
Your child is not at risk whatsoever from this situation.

Student Information Full Detail Forms
The forms which were given out on book collection day
need to be returned to the office now, even if there are no
changes. This ensures that we have all contact details upto-date. This is especially important on the occasion when
students are injured or become ill at school.
Assembly
Each week (weather permitting) we hold our School
Assembly on the Monday morning, or in the case of a
public holiday on the Monday we will have School
Assembly on Tuesday morning. At assembly the
achievements of many of our students are acknowledged
and students receive Values Awards as listed in the Link.
It is terrific to have parents join us for assembly. Parents
are, of course, always welcome and students are
especially delighted to have parents/carers in attendance
when they receive an award.
Family Law Courts & Intervention Orders
Families that have Family Law Court Orders or
Intervention Orders are requested to provide a copy to the
school so that the school can act in accordance with any
orders. Family Law Court Orders stipulate the rights of
both parties and enable us to act appropriately and
lawfully. It is also appropriate that the school is in
possession of the most recent Family Law Court Orders or
Intervention Orders.

Weather Conditions
It is important that our students are adequately protected
from the sun. Our ‘Hats On’ Policy requires all students to
st
wear a bucket or broad brim hat from the 1 September
th
through until 30 April each year. It is important that
students apply sunscreen to assist with protection. Whilst
we are able to remind students to apply sunscreen, we are
not able to provide sunscreen or apply sunscreen.
Therefore if you want your child to reapply sunscreen
during the day, they must have their own sunscreen and
they must be able to apply it themselves. During extreme
weather conditions, (generally temperatures above 35
degrees), students will remain inside during recess and
lunch breaks.

School Council Elections
Parent Teacher Meetings
This week we held our initial parent teacher meetings for
2015. The online booking process again proved to be very
efficient. These meetings form part of our reporting
program, and it was terrific to see so many parents take
the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss the
education of their child/ren.

This year our Twilight Fair is from 3:30pm to 6:00pm on

members of our school community joining us as possible.
Each class will be running a stall and so in the next few
weeks you may be asked for some assistance. We plan to
have a BBQ meal available along with a range of rides
and activities for our students. Please add this date to your
calendar and take the opportunity to join with us for this
special community event.

Fair Competition
At our Twilight Fair we will be holding a
Fair Competition. The prizes will be
Easter hampers. These have been
very popular in the past. Tickets will be
sold on the night of the fair for $1.00,
and the winners will be drawn at
approximately 5:45pm.
If you are able to contribute to our
prizes e.g. Easter eggs/chocolates, Easter soft toys,
baskets for prizes, clear cellophane, tissue paper,
coloured ribbon,
Easter colouring books or general
colouring books, pencils, crayons, stickers, notepads, and
biscuits please bring your donations to the office. Please
don’t send along any products.
(As has been the case in the past the office staff have
promised not to eat them!!!) We hope to make up 10-12
prizes so all donations will be greatly appreciated.

We thank retiring members who have made valuable
contributions to School Council. Retiring councillors, who
meet eligibility criteria, are welcome to nominate for further
tenure on School Council.
Nomination forms are available from the office.
Nominations are to be lodged at school by 4:00pm
th
tomorrow, Friday 20 February. A ballot (if required) will
nd
be held on Monday 2 March 2015.
School Census Day
th
Next Friday 27 February is School Census Day. If your
child is absent on this day it is very important that we are
provided with a note explaining the absence. Our budget
is determined by the number of children who attend on
Census Day and enrolment numbers and information will
be subject to audit. We thank you in anticipation for your
cooperation with this matter.
Rides/Fair Activities
Personal Possessions
The school insurance does not cover the loss or damage
of personal possessions. Students are therefore
encouraged to leave valuable personal possessions at
home.
Student Accident Insurance Arrangements
The Department does not provide personal accident
insurance for students. Parents and guardians are
responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for
injured students, including any transport costs, unless the
injury is caused by the negligence (carelessness) of a
Department or school council employee or volunteer.
Students’ accident insurance policies are available from
the private insurance market. These cover a range of
medical expenses not covered by Medicare. They can be
obtained by parents for individual students.
Parents of students at Kennington Primary School are
reminded that Kennington Primary School does not have a
whole of school policy.
At the Twilight Fair this year all activities and rides will be
prepaid. Students and visitors can purchase a mega pass
for $20.00 ($22.00 value - see draft sample) which will be
hole punched at each activity. If students and or visitors
want less or more value, $10.00 or $5.00 passes will also
be available. The passes will be held at school until the
day of the fair.

The Link is the main form of communication with you so
please ensure that your child brings it home. The Link will
be sent home with the youngest child in each family or

published on Thursdays. Sometimes, where we need to
ensure that a piece of information gets to all of our school
community, a notice will be repeated in a number of
newsletters.
Zooper Doopers
Four students from Kennington Primary
School will take part in an exciting
Overseas Learning Experience in May.
Every Friday in February, students from
KPS Team China will be selling icy-poles
to raise funds for their trip to China.
Students who wish to purchase an icy-pole need to hand
the money to their teacher on Thursday each week. Icypoles are $1.00 and will be delivered to students’
classrooms at first lunch on Fridays.

Bake Stall for the School Fair
Mother Goose Program
The School Fair is fast approaching.
Once again, the Parents and Friends’
will be running a Bake Stall, where lots
of yummy home cooked foods will be
available to buy.
Mother Goose is a song and story
group for children aged from 3-4
months to children up to kinder
age. Parents or carers stay with
their children and join in the fun.
We will be asking the school community to assist us with
donating "baked" goods for the stall. All items need to be
home-made; we cannot accept and sell pre-packaged,
store bought items. It would be appreciated if all home
baked goods were nut free also.
The session runs every Tuesday
morning from 9:30am- 10:15am.
Everyone is welcome.
We will be having small items to sell and eat on the spot
like chocolate crackles or biscuits and larger things to take
home like cakes, so anything you make would be
fantastic. See the back page for the form to be attached
with item.
Come and join in the fun and sing with your child. Learn
new songs and remember the old favourites.
The sessions are held in the Library with Sonia Lewis and
Sharyn Oliver.
The Bake Stall will accept Mega Passes and cash on fair
night.

Interest in playing Indoor Cricket over Winter....
Those who are looking to keep their skills sharp during
winter please note that the Strathfieldsaye Jets Cricket
Club are fielding interest in running some Indoor Cricket
teams at Bendigo Major League.
Age groups of approx 10 to 16 years of age. Indoor
cricket is a great fun format of the game and can help
improve cricket skills. Michael Clarke seems to have
benefited starting his career playing Indoor. You don’t
have to be registered with the Club to play & could be a
good way to get involved in a short form of the game or if
other summer sports get in the road of a game you still
enjoy.
For all enquiries, and to register interest please email
strathfieldsaye@club.cricketvictoria.com.au
