STUDENT-FACULTY BASKETBALL GAME
Calling all students and teachers! Student Council will be holding its annual fundraiser, the StudentFaculty Basketball Game, on Tuesday, March 3rd, after school (2:30-4:00) in the Upper Gym. Tickets
$5 at door. Students who want to play can sign up outside of Guidance. Teachers wanting to play
should email blsstudentcouncil@gmail.com. Teachers receive purple shirts, and students should
wear a white shirt. We hope to see you there!
Boston Latin School Theater presents Pullman Car Hiawatha
Come see Boston Latin School's submission to the Massachusetts High School Drama Festival.
Thursday, February 26 at 3pm and 8pm and Friday, February 27 at 3pm in the Black Box. Then
we will be taking it to the Guild Festival on Saturday, February 28 where we are performing at
9am at Norwood High School.
Wanna write a play?
In collaboration with Boston Children's Theater, BLS will be offering an after school
playwriting workshops on Wednesdays after school starting March 4. Come to the black box
after school if you are interested.

National Honor Society
The NHS winter induction ceremony, for inductees only, previously scheduled for Wednesday,
February 25, and rescheduled for Thursday, March 5, has been cancelled. A new date will be

Biomaterials and How They Will Change Our Lives
Come join the Boston Latín School Biology Club in the next Speaker Series Event on Tuesday
March 3rd in the Seevak Room from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. to meet one of the most influential people
who you will ever meet.
Dr. Robert S. Langer is the head of one of the largest biomedical labs in the world whose
contributions to the biomedical field has benefited the lives of over 2 BILLION people around the
world. This means that Dr. Langer’s work in the biomedical field has impacted almost ONE IN
EVERY 3 PEOPLE LIVING on this planet. Recently, Dr. Langer was awarded the 2015 Queen
Elizabeth Award, the most prestigious award that is awarded to engineers all around the world.
Furthermore, he received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in 2013 from
President Obama and the National Medal of Science in 2006 from President Bush in recognition
for his contributions.
Dr. Langer will be talking about his work on biomaterials and engineering tissues, which could
have enormous implications in the treatment of many common diseases, including multiple
different types of cancer.

City of Boston Special Benefits
There will be a representative from Trustmark Insurance visiting on Monday March 2, and
Tuesday March 3. He will be here to review, update and enroll staff in voluntary benefits provided
by the City through Trustmark. He will be located outside of the mailroom on the above dates.
Notice to Students
PUBLIC DECLAMATION
Students—Come and Try-out for the last Public Declamation of the year!! Get a head start on
participation for next year, or see if you can make it into the last performance of the school year!!
The Fourth Public Declamation has changed, so please note new try-out and Declamation dates.
Fourth Public Declamation try-outs are Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Members of all classes are
invited to try out. Please note that submissions of a copy of your piece for review are due by
Monday, March 16 by 3 p.m. to Ms Holm in Room 120. No submissions will be accepted after that
date/time. Exempt seniors must submit pieces by the March 18 try-out date.
Public Declamation will take place for Class III on Monday, March 23, 2015. See Ms Holm for
additional information or coaching. (HW)
JV Boys Hockey
Uniforms should be turned in as soon as possible but no later than Friday, February 27th. Bring
them to Coach Gio's office in the Schawbel College Resource Center. (Gio)
SPRING SPORTS
There will be a meeting about Spring Sports on Wed., March 4, in the Upper Gym at 2:30 p.m. Meet with

Harvard Business Mentorship & Microfinance Program
Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business (HUWIB) is offering a program for high school
students on micro-finance, leadership and social entrepreneurship, with focus on women and
girls. 8-weeks, Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm, Harvard U, taught by HUWIB undergraduate students.
First class Thur, 2/26, but interested students can start Thur, 3/5. Email Lejla Custo

Advanced Placement Students
Registration for AP exams is now available online. The link can be found on SIS or the school
website under the "students" tab. All students currently enrolled in an AP class must register and
pay for their AP exam. Instructions and additional information are on bls.org. Deadline for
registration is February 27. Contact Mr. Kennelly with any questions. (KN)

The School Store is located in the dining hall and is open every Friday during the lunch periods
and available 24/7 online at bls.org/bookstore.
Come check out the new arrivals at the store including Under Armour purple string bags. There
are also many new items on-line including custom blankets and custom fleece jackets.
STUDENTS: Are you interested in international summer exchange programs studying world
languages and culture, service/leadership, science, entrepreneurship or communication arts? If
you are currently in grades 9-11 and would like to learn more, speak to Ms. Delorme or your
