FAITHFULLY SERVING JESUS CHRIST IN MARION COUNTY AND THE WORLD SINCE 1857 AND STILL GROWING!
TRADITIONAL WORSHIP
THE THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT
March 8, 2015
8:15a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
We Gather with Others in God’s House
The Welcome and Announcements
The Minute for Mission
Fran Gilchrist, Gifts of Women Sunday

(Thank you, if able, for standing and greeting your neighbors in worship today with the
peace of our Lord Jesus Christ.)
We Prepare Our Hearts and Minds for Worship
The Chiming of the Hour
The Prelude
Gabriel’s Oboe from The Mission
Ennio Morricone
String Ensemble
arr. Robert Longfield
To meditate upon today during the prelude……
I have come to the mindset that Jesus doesn’t care about 40 days; He cares about your heart
for a lifetime. Give something up, do something out of your comfort zone, but let’s not
advertise what it is. Goodness, sometimes have some humility. Maybe during Lent, you
practice humility to draw closer to faith. Or you accept your individual struggles with grace so
you can be a stronger piece of your community. Perhaps you ditch social media so you aren’t
distracted from nurturing meaningful relationships.
The Call to Worship
We give You thanks, O God, for You are good; Your steadfast love endures forever.
When we cried to You with our troubles, O Lord, You saved us from our
distress.
We give You thanks, O God, for Your wonderful works to all of humanity.
Hear now our offerings of praise and thanksgiving, as we tell of Your deeds
with songs of joy.
Let us worship God!
We Give Praise and Adoration to God
*The Hymn of Praise
Open My Eyes That I May See
#324
*The Re-Affirmation of Faith (Unison)
As Christians, we affirm the life-giving, renewing work of Jesus Christ on our
behalf. In Christ the past is past. It is gone. It no longer determines who we
are or who we can become. Christ took care of all that so that we may look
to Him for our identity and hope. We are reconciled to God through Christ.
We are made new creatures. We receive the promise of God’s daily
presence and mercy. We are God’s children! We affirm our choice to live as
those whose inheritance is sure, whose joy is secure, and whose present and
future are held in the loving hands of our gracious Lord and Savior.
*If able, please stand
*The Gloria Patri
#579
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: As it was in
the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.
(Children sitting with their parents in the 11 O’clock service may now join Ms. Jacque Johnson
for children’s church.)
The Anthem (11:00)
Take My Life and Let It Be Consecrated
Frances Havergal
arr. Mark Hayes
Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee. Take my moments and my days let them
flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love. Take
my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee. Take my voice and let me sing always,
only, for my King. Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from Thee. Take my will
and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is thine own; it shall be thy
royal throne. Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store. Take myself and I will
be ever, only, all for Thee.
We Seek and Share God’s Forgiveness
The Call to Confession
The Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, the journey of Lent comes to us as a gift. It is a reminder to us
to slow down, unplug ourselves, and be still and quiet in Your presence.
Lord, it takes discipline for us to do this because we are often addicted to
instant success and immediate response. We are so used to being “on” that
we sometimes lose sight of our need for rest, for renewal and especially for
You. So, we thank You for the spiritual discipline of Lent. Encourage us this
Lent to at times lay aside our calendars and “to do” lists and focus instead
on Your gifts and blessings. Help us to stop long enough to say “thank you”
instead of running hurriedly and unappreciatively through our day. We
acknowledge the work of Your grace in our lives – and the reality that it is
anything but “cheap.” And, we wait. We wait expectantly and patiently for
You to speak and to make Yourself known to us in new and surprising ways.
To this we commit ourselves this Resurrection day for the sake of Christ in
whose name we pray, worship and serve. Amen.
(A time for silent prayer and confession.)
The Assurance of Pardon
The Response (Seated and singing)
Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our foolish ways;
Reclothe us in our rightful mind,
In purer lives Thy service,
In deeper reverence, praise.

Where Jesus knelt to share with Thee

TODAY’S ANNOUNCEMENTS
Welcome to all who worship with us today! We are delighted that you are here with
us and especially welcome all newcomers. Thank you for signing and passing the Friendship
Pad on the pews. If you’re new today, please give us your address and phone number. If
you are looking for a new church home, we trust that the service today will be a blessing to
you and that you will continue to worship and serve the Lord with us! New members are
received into our church by either transfer from a previous church or by profession or
reaffirmation of faith. Inquirers’ Luncheons are held every other month on Sundays from
noon to 1:30 p.m. in which newcomers can learn more about Christianity, the Presbyterian
Church and membership at First Presbyterian Church of Ocala. Please speak with one of
our pastors after the service if you have questions or pastoral concerns; and again, welcome
to our friendly, caring and mission-minded family of faith!
Large print hymnals and hearing aids are available for your convenience from the
ushers. If any hearing aid does not work, please see an usher for a replacement.
Parents, please be sure to get today’s worship bulletin for your children with activities for
them on the ushers’ table in the narthex. Ask an usher for information.
Spring String Fling is today at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Come hear our fantastic
string ensemble’s annual spring concert. The concert will feature classics, such as Bach's
Brandenburg Concerto and Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nacht Music, as well as themes from popular
movies and TV productions. The group will also feature breakout performances by several
members, including the director’s world premier viola performance of “Twinkle, Twinkle,
Little Star.” The performance has something for everyone, so make plans to attend and
invite your family, friends and neighbors!
There’ll be no Wednesday Night Live supper and program this week due to our
yard sale preparation.
Our 2015 church-wide yard sale for missions starts this Thursday, March 12
(FPC members only from 4-6 p.m.), and Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14
from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Tell all your friends and neighbors! Thanks for gathering
up, boxing and bringing your donations to Fellowship Hall now, neatly placing them on
the sides near the front. Thanks for not bringing older model TVs or computer monitors.
Call Lannie Mercer (629-3354) to volunteer, for information or to have items picked up.
We need a lot more “unpackers and pricers” for this week as well as lots of
plastic grocery bags. All proceeds will help our youth group and advisors participate in a
summer 2015 mission week in Georgia and a group of adults who’ll spend a mission week in
Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Our Out-to-Dinner Fellowship will meet next on Thursday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m.
at Carrabba’s (2370 SW College Road). Call Donna Guterman (351-9398) by
Monday, March 17 if you’re planning to attend. Newcomers are always welcome!
Our March Young Adults Luncheon will take place on Sunday, March 29 at 12:30
p.m. Contact David Bedenbaugh for details at 282-7318 or davidb@fpcocala.org.
March Inquirers’ Luncheon – Welcome Newcomers!

Wednesday Night Live Solidarity Meal – March 25, 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall
where we’ll gather for our last Mid-Week dinner for the season. Join us in a
solidarity meal for those who have little or nothing to eat. We will gather and have a very
humble meal consisting of rice and beans (still more than many will eat that day). Half of the
proceeds from the cost of the meal will be donated to Interfaith. We also request that you
bring a canned or boxed food item which will also be given to Interfaith Emergency Services
here in Ocala. We hope you will accept this invitation to deny ourselves so others may have
even a little on our last Mid-Week gathering this spring.
Following dinner on March 25 we invite anyone who may wish to join us in the
sanctuary for a time of prayer and a service of healing and wholeness. Please invite a
friend or co-worker to join us in this evening of fellowship and to raise additional resources
for the least among us. Please make your reservations on the Friendship Pad today or
call the church office (629-7561).
Free sketching and art classes at FPC! Contact Phyllis Craggs for more information
(816-1030) or call the church office (629-7561) to sign up. The class is open to all adults.
Interfaith needs for March are Canned fruit, rice, pasta and pasta sauce. Thanks
for placing your donations in the Narthex or at the back of Fellowship Hall on Sundays or
bring them to the church office during the week.
