First Baptist Church, Vancouver (FBC) is a vibrant multi-generational faith community, as
diverse as the city where we do life together. Every Sunday, around nine-hundred of us
gather to worship the Lord our God in a beautiful historic building in the heart of
downtown Vancouver, Canada. We are young, old and in-between, rich, poor,
employed and re-training, multicultural, families and singles, Bible scholars and seekers.

beyond", by loving God, loving one another and loving our neighbours in the manner
expressed by Jesus in his parable of the Good Samaritan, where true neighbourliness

General Position Description
First Baptist Church, Vancouver is seeking a full-time, experienced Pastor to join our
pastoral team. Our new team member will be a gifted communicator, able to preach,
teach, and share Kingdom Life in Christ with particular sensitivity to the needs of young
adults and university students, those recently arrived to Vancouver from other
countries, and those outside of our church body. His or her primary ministry focus
areas will include the International Ministry, University-age Ministry, and Evangelistic
Ministry. He or she will have a strong background in mentoring, coaching, and training.
Our new team member will have some combination of experience in an urban ministry
setting serving a multi-ethnic/international community, awareness of cultural trends
and experience in multi-staff setting.

• A Trinitarian approach to ministry—being rooted in the love of the Father,
depending on the grace of the Son, and being filled with the power of the Holy
Spirit.
• Thorough knowledge and continued study of the Bible.
• Passionate about the areas that this position will cover: the international
community, university-age young adults, and evangelism.
• Experienced in urban ministry in a multi-cultural, preferably multi-staff setting.
• Aware of the complexities of contemporary urban life for young adults.
• Capable leader with the capacity to connect with diverse groups of people.
• Ability to relate biblical truth to daily life.
• Comfortable managing ministry responsibilities.
• Ability to integrate individual ministries into congregational life.
• Models and develops small group relationships and accountability. Able to
develop others by mentoring, teaching, coaching & training (volunteers, interns,
other staff).
• Committed to sharing the journey of following Jesus with those who are not
within the church’s structures. Willing to equip others to reach out.
• Able to relate personally and socially to young adults and internationals with
cultural sensitivity.
Job Responsibilities:
• Shepherds, directs, and administers ministries in the area of the International
Ministry, University-aged adults, and those ‘searching’ from outside the church.
• Pastoral leadership and oversight for those in and around our church who are
new to Canada and seeking support and community in the city.
• Pastoral leadership and oversight for university-aged men and women, with
attention to community-building and spiritual development.
• Pastoral leadership and oversight for evangelistic ministries (e.g. Alpha), which
reach those outside our church community.
• Builds relationships with learning institutions, including colleges, universities,
language schools, etc.
• Preaching and teaching in a variety of settings including some congregational
ministry on Sunday mornings, as determined within the pastoral team.
• Mentors, develops and equips department staff, interns, and lay leadership
within his or her ministry areas.
• Participates as a member of the staff team in the pastoral care of the people
within his or her focus areas and other areas if required.

Assists in life transition events in the community of FBC when required and
assigned within the Pastoral Team (marriages, funerals, memorials, baptism,
dedications, etc.).
Attends and participates in staff meetings, representing the voice of young
adults, internationals, and evangelistic opportunities in discussions on ministry
issues, vision and direction of the church.
Opportunities to develop new initiatives within the ministry of the church.
This position reports to the Executive Minister.
Qualifications
• Masters level theological training is preferred.
• 3-5 years or more of pastoral ministry experience.
• Ordained or on ordination track with Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.
• Equivalencies will be considered.
Hours per Week
This is a full-time position.
Compensation
Salary and benefits for this position will be in line with the FBC Salary Grid as aligned
with CBWC guidelines.
