A Reflection on Lent
“The annual observance of Lent is the special
season for the ascent to the holy mountain of
Easter.
Through its twofold theme of
repentance and baptism, the season of Lent
disposes both the catechumens and the faithful
to celebrate the paschal mystery. Catehumens are led to
the sacraments of initiation by means of the rite of
election, the scrutinies, and catechesis. The faithful,
listening more intently to the word of God and devoting
themselves to prayer, are prepared through a spirit of
repentance to renew their baptismal promises” (The
Ceremonial of Bishops, 249).
Lent is Our Time of Preparation
We spend these 40 days drawing closer
to God as we prepare for the great
celebration of Easter.
We pray to deepen our relationship with
God and reflect on what type of person we
are called to be.
We fast to remove the things that get in the way of our
relationship with God. In our hunger, we are reminded
that everything we have is a gift from God and that there
are many who do not have enough to eat.
We give alms to our brothers and sisters in need,
honoring Jesus’ call to serve our neighbors.

Dear Father Quindlen,
It is with heartfelt gratitude that I write this thank you for the MCP (Mission
Cooperation Plan-2014) collection which your parish contributed to the Fairbanks Diocese via the Society of the Propagation of the Faith. We are very
grateful for the contribution of $2,304.00 which your parishioners gave. It was
a great joy and privilege for me to meet your parishioners and to speak at the
Masses.
Thank you also for your wonderful hospitality and welcome. Your caring and
generosity are deeply appreciated.
The funds will be used for our missionary activities and to help us continue
our ministry of evangelization with native peoples. You and your parishioners
are always remembered in our prayers here in the diocese.

From the Pastor:
The Fourth Sunday of Lent is traditionally known as
Laetare (“Rejoice”) Sunday, so-called from the first
word of the entrance antiphon. Laetare, taken from the
Latin translation of Is 66:10-11, sets a tone of joyful
anticipation of the Easter mystery, as does the
permitted use of rose-colored vestments.

Carry Your Rosary Everyday
When you carry a Rosary,
Satan has a headache.
When you use it, he collapses.
When he sees you praying it, he faints.
Let us pray the rosary every time,
