Today’s Sermon
The Spiritual Life:
Suffering
Mark 11: 1–11
Andy Romanoff
Suffering Jesus at St. Mary’s Church
Krakow, Poland
10.18.2014
This is one of the hardest pictures
I’ve ever made. I sat in the front
pew, a few feet from where Pope
John-Paul used to sit and meditate.
When I raised the camera to my
eyes, his face filled the frame and
all his pain and suffering could
be felt through the picture. I laid
awake that night asking, “Why?”
2015 Annual Meeting
Sunday, May 17 – 12:30pm – Shatto Chapel
Dear Friends,
It is my honor to announce that in accordance with the By-Laws of First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, the Annual
Meeting of the Congregation will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 12:30pm in Shatto Chapel. Important business will be
covered, including the election of officers and passing of the budget for Fiscal Year 2015-16.
All materials will be posted on a secure, member-only section of our website in the coming weeks, including nominee photos
and biographies, at http://www.fccla.org/annualmeeting. The password for members can be obtained from Rev. Shanna Steitz
at ssteitz@fccla.org. On May 1, a complete Annual Report will be sent to all members with email addresses. Should you desire
a hard copy of the documents, a complete set will be available after May 1 and may be obtained from Rev. Shanna Steitz.
Please mark your calendars to be with us that morning for worship as we honor our 25 and 50-year members, as well as
celebrate the outstanding music with Music Appreciation Sunday. I look forward to seeing you in worship!
Sincerely,
Donald Battjes, Moderator

Celebrate!
Gay Freedom Band “Rolls Out The
Red Carpet” and Rocks First Church!
A fantastic time was had
by all at last Sunday’s
GFBLA concert. Their
program covered a wide
range of music from the
beautifully emotional
violin solo in “Schindler’s
List” to the magical
“Wizard of Oz” medley.
The band will return to
First Church in October for their next concert. Pictured is
Artistic Director Justin Raines at Saturday’s dress rehearsal.
