Peterson “RSVP.” Four little letters found at the bottom of most invitations meaning “Repondez s’il vous plait”, or “Please reply”. Most of us are graciously inclined to do just that, aware as we are that our host needs our response to prepare properly for the event. Not to reply is more than a breach of etiquette. It is actually uncharitable toward the host, who thought enough of you to include you. God has invited all of us to an indescribably wonderful banquet, which is one way Jesus used to describe heaven. I daresay His picture of heaven is far more exciting than that of the cartoonists who picture heaven as harp strumming on clouds! PREP NEWS Seventh-Grade Parent Meetings and Mass Meetings for parents of seventh graders will be held on October 21 and 22, at 7:30 PM in the School auditorium (this is a change of day and location from previous years). All parents of seventh-grade students (School and PREP) who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Spring of 2016 should attend one of these meetings. Details of the two-year Confirmation Preparation Program will be discussed. The Mass of Initiation for our seventh graders is scheduled for Sunday, November 16th, at 11:00 AM in the Church. All seventh graders and their families are encouraged to celebrate this beginning of their Journey to Confirmation. WORLD MISSION SUNDAY October 18 & 19 Our invitation arrives at Baptism. We are even given directions to the banquet hall through the Sacred Scriptures. We are asked to come dressed via sacramental grace. We are even reminded by the Host not to bring any gift for Him except our love. Have you sent back your reply card? World Mission Sunday is a day where Catholics throughout the world, are called to offer prayers and generous financial support through the Propagation of the Faith, for the worldwide mission of Jesus. It’s true that we all know people who think all of this as fantasy for the foolish. Just as the Lord described in the parable, they “ignore the invitation and walk away,” preferring their “farm or business.” Missionaries in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands and parts of Latin America need our help to bring Christ’s message of hope and peace to the world. Our contributions are also used to help support schools, clinics, programs to help children, refugees and the sick, and more. There are more of such people today in our country and Europe. “Former Catholics” make up the second largest group according to pollsters. Wisely, we let the King decide what to do about their ignored invitations. Nor should we forget the stalwart Catholics in places like the Middle East, China and Africa who cling to their creed despite persecutions like those of ancient Roman days. What is paramount for us is to keep our banquet ticket secure and safe inside our hearts, making certain each day that we renew for God our positive “RSVP.” Copied in part, and with permission, from John Patrick Publishing Company Please offer prayers for the work of the Church throughout the world. A second collection will be taken next weekend for their needs. From Lumen Gentium, one of the main documents of the Second Vatican Council. “Christ is the light of all nations; and it is, accordingly, the heart-felt desire of this sacred Council, being gathered together in the Holy Spirit, that by proclaiming His Gospel to every creature, it may bring to all that light of Christ which shines out visibly from the Church.” –Pope Benedict said that if we want to understand the Second Vatican Council correctly, we must always go back to this opening statement 556-Page 2 Thanksgiving Gifting The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is preparing for our busiest time of the year. Trying to provide a nice Thanksgiving and Christmas for loved ones is especially difficult for those already struggling to pay for food, clothing and fuel. With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. Our annual Thanksgiving Gifting Program takes place November 20, 21 and 22 (at the Msgr. James H. Dubell Caring Center on Jones Road) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day and on November 23 (for home deliveries). We need volunteers to help in gifting our guests. Whether you are available for one day or all four, we need you! Training for new and past volunteers will take place at the Caring Center on Monday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m. You only need to attend one of the sessions. If you wish to volunteer, please call St Vincent's at 609-6540021 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays. We welcome back former volunteers and look forward to meeting new ones. If the gifting dates for Thanksgiving are not convenient for you, plan on joining us for Christmas gifting in December. Details will follow at a later date. We look forward to joining hands with you to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve. "The Sacred Heart of Christ is an inexhaustible fountain and its sole desire is to pour itself out into the hearts of the humble so as to free them and prepare them to lead lives according to his good pleasure.” - St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a 17th century nun who promoted devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Her Feast Day on October, 16. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is happy to announce that the Caring Center on Jones Road will be named in honor of Msgr. Dubell. The official naming will take place in 2015 when Msgr. Dubell celebrates his 50th year as a priest. The Msgr. James H. Dubell Caring Center is the Society’s way of saying thank you to our pastor and letting the wider community know how important his support has been to St. Vincent’s in helping those in need with food, clothing, spiritual assistance, and financial help. We also would like to thank Msgr. Dubell, the parish staff, and all parishioners for donating the statue of St. Vincent de Paul. Blessed and dedicated on Sept. 28, the beautiful wood sculpture will be displayed permanently in the south transept of our church as a constant reminder of our responsibility to serve those in need in the spirit of St Vincent de Paul. Casseroles for Camden Our outreach in support of Francis House Ministry in Camden has resumed. Just as the body needs nourishment, so the soul must also be fed. Prayer is one important way to sustain and grow your soul. Join with us and enjoy the nurturing of soul and peace of being that praying in a group can give. Our monthly prayer gathering before the Blessed Sacrament will be followed by Benediction and a brief meeting. All women & girls of the parish are welcome. "Souls that have no habit of prayer are like a lame and paralytic body, which, though it has hands and feet, cannot use them. Therefore, to abandon prayer seems to me the same thing as to lose the straight road; for as prayer is the gate through which all the graces of God come to us, when this is closed, I do not know how we can have any." – St. Teresa of Avila – Feast Day October 15 556-Page 5 Healing Mass with Fr. Ariel Hernandez Tuesday, November 11 Is God Calling You? Vocational discernment groups meet to assist young men who are discerning the possibility that God may be calling them to a life of priestly ministry. These groups are designed to explore a priestly vocation with other like-minded men through prayer and sharing vocation stories and experiences. The group meetings are not meant to convince anyone that the priesthood is their vocation. They are designed to assist you in discovering if the priesthood is your true vocation and build your relationship with Christ along the way. If you are a faithful, single, Roman Catholic man, between the ages of 18 and 40, and are asking yourself whether God is calling you to be a priest, you are cordially invited to attend this month’s discernment meeting on October 26th, from 4pm to 6pm at Saint Gregory the Great Parish, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, New Jersey. Join Rev. Michael McClane and Rev. Tom Vala, as they share their experiences of the priesthood, followed by prayer and concluding with a great meal and conversation. Please register with the Diocese of Trenton Vocation Office at vocations@dioceseoftrenton.org or by calling (609) 406-7449. Join us at this exciting time as you discover and respond to His invitation! “…the power of grace comes alive and flourishes to the extent that we, in faith, go out and give ourselves and the Gospel to others.” - Pope Francis – 2013 Chrism Mass Homily A special Healing Mass and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at St. Mary of the Lakes Church. The Celebrant is the dynamic, spirit filled priest, Fr. Ariel Hernandez, who celebrated Mass here last November. Many said they were touched or healed at that Mass. Fr. Ariel is Pastor of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Camden Diocese. Father has graciously agreed to share his love of Jesus in the Eucharist again this year. Time: 7pm is the Rosary, 7:15 is praise & worship; 7:30 Mass. Expect God to touch you. All are welcome! The Charismatic Prayer Group is the host.
