Schroeder Please keep all the souls of the faithful departed in your prayers. Dear Parishioners, I pray you had a holy celebration of Christmas with your family and friends. You will notice how quickly the world moves on from the celebration of this most-important moment in the history of mankind. However, the Catholic Church celebrates Christmas all the way through January 11th. So, if at all possible keep playing that Christmas music and keep up your decorations for another week or two to remind others of the reason for our celebration. Fr. Boehm and I want to thank all of you for the many thoughtful and generous ways you have made this Christmas special for us. Thank you for all the sweet treats, gifts, and cards that remind us that the Christ-child is very much alive and present in the hearts of the people of St. Michael. Fr. Boehm and I will be spending extra time at the gym to try and work off all the extra calories. Fortunately, we have big families that can help us finish the food! Finally, January 1st, the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, is a holy day of obligation. We will be offering a Vigil Mass on December 31st at 5pm and a Mass on January 1st at 9am. Please ring in the New Year safely and with the perfect prayer of the Mass. Christmas joy and peace, Fr. Schroeder December 28, 2014 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph “…as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must forgive.” - Colossians 3:13 Forgiveness – one of the hardest things for people to do. It’s amazing how long we can hold a grudge or be angry with someone. As we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family, take this opportunity to give the gift of forgiveness to someone - maybe someone in your family, maybe a friend, maybe a co-worker or neighbor or, maybe yourself. Pick up the phone or text someone right now. Now - Friday, January 2, 2015 5 p.m. Mary the Mother of God This Thursday, January 1st the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, our Lady's greatest title. This feast is the octave of Christmas. In the modern Roman Calendar only Christmas and Easter enjoy the privilege of an octave. "Mary, the all-holy ever-virgin Mother of God, is the masterwork of the mission of the Son and the Spirit in the fullness of time. For the first time in the plan of salvation and because his Spirit had prepared her, the Father found the dwelling place where his Son and his Spirit could dwell among men. In this sense the Church's Tradition has often read the most beautiful texts on wisdom in relation to Mary. Mary is acclaimed and represented in the liturgy as the "Seat of Wisdom." — Catechism of the Catholic Church 721 A plenary indulgence may be gained by reciting or singing the hymn Veni Creator Spiritus on the first day of the year. This hymn is traditionally sung for beginnings of things, calling on the Holy Spirit before endeavoring something new. Like the Churches of the East, Rome wished to honor the Virgin Mother of God during the days after Christmas. As a result the Natale S. Mariae ("Anniversary of St. Mary") made its appearance on January 1 in the seventh century; it has accurately been called "the first Marian feast of the Roman liturgy." — The Church at Prayer Liturgical Ministries Precious Friends, Alleluia, Joy for the “Feast of Heaven & Earth” that God & all of you gave for our homeless children women & men. It was the love of Christ revealed in your goodness in sending money, cooking, serving and lavishly giving gifts. Please, Jesus help us remember the poor are poor all year and help us know what to do for all who are suffering. A gazillion hugs & kisses, and happy Holy New year. We are committed to a climate of committed relfection and continued positive improvement to our school programs. Consideration is given to what is currently working well and ways to develop and enhance current programs. This allows for Holy Cross Academy to work together as faculty and staff to create new and innovative goals which will move us into the next year, and beyond. During this time, we are reminded of the investment our parish families make to ensure the success of Holy Cross Academy. Without your help, we would not be able to plan for the future. We are grateful for your continued support of our school and its mission. Wishing you a blessed and Happy New Year!
