“After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose
sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.” – Mark 1:7
We are put on this earth to love God, love our neighbor and
make disciples. How many times does our own pride and ego
get in the way on fulfilling God’s plan for us? Humbling ourselves before God and putting Him first in all things should be
our top priority.

Immaculate Conception Church
Pro-Life Corner
This Sunday we celebrate
the Baptism of the Lord.
Jesus entered the Jordan
River to be baptized by
St. John the Baptist. Of
course Jesus didn't need
baptism, since He was
totally sinless. However,
He saw baptism as being
necessary in His mission
of bringing salvation to
the world. There are various truths we can learn from
Christ's baptism, including its reference to our own baptism. St. Thomas Aquinas states that the baptism of the
Lord points to our Christian sacrament of baptism.
When Jesus received the baptism of John, He
"consecrated it," and gave it a power that only God
could give. When the baptism of John is imbued with
the presence of Jesus, it becomes what we celebrate today in our sacrament of Baptism. The water signifies the
cleansing from sin that takes place. The descent of the
dove signifies the reception of grace. The voice of God
crying out - "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased." - signifies our adoption as beloved sons and
daughters of God. Baptism teaches us the profound love
that God has for each human life. Each life belongs to
God. Fr. Frank Pavone reminds us that the Lord is baptized to show His solidarity with us and provide the way
for us to be born into eternal life. Baptism gives us our
identity as the People of Life. Abortion and other attacks against Life are completely contrary to baptism.
Baptism is about Life and abortion, infanticide, physician
assisted suicide are about death. Baptism is about welcoming the child into the community. Abortion is about
excluding the child from the community. Baptism is
about the fact that God chooses all people, and because
of this we welcome all people. Abortion is about the fact
that if we didn't wish a particular child to be, we can
reject that child. Baptism shows that we are called to
give a warm "YES" to Life, and never a rejecting 'no' of
abortion. As we reflect on the meaning of baptism let us
reaffirm our commitment to Life, and appreciate the
words of Pope Benedict from 2007: "Each child born
brings to us the smile of God and invites us to recognize
that life is His gift, a gift that must be accepted with love
and protected with care, always and at all times."

A Mass for Hidden Treasures
Food Collection
On the third Sunday of each month
non-perishable foods are collected at
the entrances of the church. The
food is distributed to three agencies;
the Somerset Community Food Bank, FISH emergency
food and clothing pantry and the Somerville Welfare Office. Over the last few months our Parish Food Collection
has decreased dramatically. We rely on the generous
hearts of this Parish Community to help us to continue to
fill our neighboring food pantries. It truly is a simple way
to help those in need. Please take the time to fill one grocery bag with non perishable items for those who do not
have the means to purchase one of life’s basic needs ~
food. This ministry is crucial to living the Gospel message that calls us to serve the hungry and in some cases
the homeless. Jesus spoke the word clearly when he
stated “When I was hungry did you feed me? For what
you do for the least of these you did for me.” The next
food collection is scheduled for next weekend January 17th & 18th.
is
a group of women from our parish who
reach out to women during times of
pregnancy, birth, or adoption. They
support those suffering the pain of miscarriage, infertility, failed adoption, or
infant crisis, as well as those who experience a normal pregnancy and birth,
or successful adoption. If you or someone you know could benefit from this ministry, or if you
would like to join the ministry, please contact Jeanine
Cavanagh, at 725-1112 x1126.

My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within
you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to

2015 March for Life
Our Parish will sponsor the eighth annual bus trip to participate in the March for Life in Washington, DC on Thursday January
22, 2015. The March is a yearly event held since 1974 to show support for Life on the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s infamous
abortion decision, Roe v. Wade. This event, sponsored by our Parish, has become a tremendous success in terms of witnessing to the
truth and receiving support in our beliefs. Once again, we will offer parishioners the opportunity to participate in this important lifeaffirming event in our nation’s capital.
It offers an opportunity to put our faith into action by being a public witness for the sacredness of God’s gift of life and being a voice for those unable to speak for them. It presents an occasion for us to reach out to support others unable to defend themselves and, through our prayer and public presence, help to bring the Culture of Life into the world. Your presence is of great value
to succeed in reaching this lofty goal. We will depart from Immaculate Conception Church at 7:00AM. Our approximate return will
be 10:00PM. We will be stopping for dinner in Maryland. We are asking for a $30.00 offering for adults, $10.00 for children and a
maximum cost of $50.00 per family, to defray the cost of the bus. It is not a requirement to pay specified amounts in order to participate. If you have any questions regarding the event please contact Jeanine Cavanagh at 725-1112 x1126 or Kevin Dugan at (908)
788-7736. All are welcome to attend. Please pass this good word on to those outside the Parish who may be interested in attending.
Our goal is to fill the bus to maximum capacity. With the assistance of the good people of this community, we are assured it will be
done. If you cannot attend the March and would like to sponsor another to attend, please consider participating in this manner. An
opportunity for Eucharistic Adoration will be available on January 22 for those who cannot attend, but would like to participate in advancing the cause. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this life-promoting event. Information on the actual

world is more than inert matter or modeling clay for the
human will. Creation is sacred. It has sacramental meaning. It reflects God’s glory. That includes our bodies. Our
sexuality has the power to procreate, and shares in the
dignity of being created in the image of God. We need to
live accordingly. Would you like to host a family during
the week? Host Families can host visitors in a spare bedroom, a vacated apartment, or any amenable facility. Visiting individuals and families can then search the Host Family database to find hosts to be matched to. If you would
like to open your home to a World Meeting of Families
Visitor, you can register at https://

Mensaje Spiritual
Juan no podía operar esa transformación.
