Because All Saints falls on a Saturday, it is still a Holy Day, however, the obligation is lifted. We will have a Mass on Saturday, November 1st at 8am to celebrate All Saints Day. All Souls Day will be celebrated - Saturday, November 1st at 5pm and at all Masses Sunday, November 2nd. From the Pastor’s Pen… Dear People of God, Please keep the prayers going for peace, not just world peace, but peace here in St. Louis. I repeat, have you heard of any plan that would satisfy everyone, end all suffering and discrimination and economic stress, from the local or state politicians, or NAACP or other groups? There is no simple, affordable solution. Prayer can work miracles, even to solving difficult social and political problems. If we are loving and listening to God, then we will hear answers to life's difficulties. How many hours a week do we pray? And the people who do not go to church, how many hours per week do they pray? We pray for the whole community, even for our neighbors who do not pray. Come to Guadalupe for support in prayer; come Thursday nights to the church, any time 7:00pm to 8:30pm English and Spanish. Come Wednesdays at 6:30pm to the church for a small Rosary group prayer (English). Save the whole world and save our North County world; all things are possible in Christ. Coming up: Next weekend is All Saints and All Souls Day, Saturday and Sunday respectively. We want to have mercy on all those who have died, praying for them, as they do for us. We must imagine how much gratitude and grace God will shower on us who show our love in actions for Him and them. Looking ahead, our parishioner owned restaurant, El Palenque offers us a parish dinner Saturday, November 8th. Our youth group will be serving the food, and OLG adults including Sr. Cathy and myself will be waiting your tables. Come to help our teens and our El Palenque family. Keep Those Prayers Going! Fr. The oil is a healing balm, an ointment which is applied in the sign of the cross on the forehead and hands of the sick person. CURE: When a given physical ailment no longer exists. EXTREME UNCTION: This former term for sacramental anointing was closely tied to a final pastoral act to release a person’s sins before death. Renewal within the Church has restored a more ancient understanding of sacramental anointing, one which takes place within community and brings a message of hope and comfort to those who are suffering. HEALING: God’s will for salvation and spiritual peace taking place in an individual’s life. SACRAMENT: A visible sign, instituted by Christ, that reveals and communicates grace. SALVATION: The word salvation has its roots in the Latin words salus, which means health, and salvatus, which means delivered from danger. Physical health, mental health and spiritual health are all gifts of God which help us experience now the life which God intends for us. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be held at all the Masses on the weekend of November 22/23. Join us to pray for those of our parish who are seriously ill as they are anointed, have hands laid on the, and are blessed. If you wish to receive the sacrament, contact Sr. Cathy at 5229264. Shop and Save Shop and Save is giving stickers for every $10 you spend and when you get so many you can get some pots and pans. If you do not need your stickers or if the customer in front of you doesn’t take theirs please turn them in to the Parish Office. We can use the pots and pans as gifts. Retired Religious Collection Dear Parishioner, In the United States today, numerous Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests past age 70 benefit from the Retirement Fund for Religious collection. Donations to this special collection provide funding for support that helps religious communities care for senior members and plan for long-term retirement needs. On the weekend of November 2, all parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Louis will take up the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, an opportunity for you to acknowledge the thousands of senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests for their faithful service. Whether or not we realize it, we are all beneficiaries of the tremendous contributions these women and men have made to the Church in the United States. Through hard work, prayer, and sacrifice, they built Catholic schools and hospitals, initiated programs to promote social justice, and ministered to the neediest among us. As I reflect on the dedication of elderly religious, I remain grateful for the ways they have shaped my own faith and for the tremendous service they have offered our archdiocese. Today, many religious communities struggle to care for their elderly members. Increasing health-care costs and decreased income make it difficult to provide necessary medical care, costly medications and basic services. Aging convents and other facilities pose additional challenges in terms of safety and handicap accessibility. You are asked to support numerous important causes in need of financial support. In thanksgiving for all that senior religious have done, please join me in supporting the Retirement Fund for Religious and in praying for God’s continued blessing on our nation’s elderly sisters, brothers, and religious order priests.
