LIVING YOUR FAITH
Lent: A Sign of Contradiction
Of all of the liturgical seasons in the Catholic
Church, Lent is the one that is the most obvious,
both to Catholics and to our non-Catholic friends.
While the Easter season is longer, most people no
longer observe it in any meaningful way once the
Octave of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday) has
passed.
Advent has been subsumed into the "holiday shopping season"; Christmas is over almost before it has
begun.
Only the 40 days of Lent remain today as a sign of
contradiction, a period of prayer and penance that
the world cannot help but notice.
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
T
omorrow night, February
23rd, Father Michael Duffy from the
St. Francis Inn will be joining us for a
Mass at 7:30 P.M. Please join us
What you need to know for Lent:
 Lenten Fast and Abstinence Requirement: Catholics
between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast (no
eating between meals) on Ash Wednesday and Good
Friday. Also all Catholics 14 years and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and
all the Fridays of Lent.
 During Lent there will be an extra Mass with Confes-
sions on all Tuesdays. Confessions: 7:00PM to 7:30PM
and Mass at 7:30PM. On Fridays: Stations of the Cross
at 1:15PM and 7:00PM in the Church. Also there will be
Morning Mass at 6:30AM, and Adoration Chapel will be
open from 7:00AM to 8:00PM for private prayer time.
 PARISH MISSION: On Sunday March 8th our Parish
Mission will begin at 7:00PM and continue through
Monday, March 9th and Tuesday, March 10th. The Parish Mission will be presented by Rev. Christopher
Walsh, formerly of Archbishop Wood High School and
currently pastor at St. Raymond Parish in Philadelphia.
The topic is The Beatitudes. I have personally heard
him speak on this topic and it was EXCELLENT AND
MEMORABLE. I am very grateful to him for accepting
our invitation. Plan now to attend! This is an important
spiritual event for the parish and important for your Lenten journey. Please invite your family of all ages and
friends to join us.
God Bless You and your Families,
Rev. Richard P. Connors
P.S. Information on Increased Offerings and electronic giving will be presented soon for your consideration. Thank
you for all your generous support and continued participation in the life of our parish.
REMEMBERING IN OUR PRAYERS...
...our sick: Bobby Taggart, Edward Duff, Marylou Zappetelli, and victims of human trafficking; and all those in

Upcoming Job Opportunity
Recently I was recalled by the Census Bureau to work on
a temporary survey that occurs every 2 years in the 5
county region. It is named the American Housing Survey
(AHS). There will be good, temporary jobs available for
the spring and summer. Interested persons must take a
test during that window in order to be considered for employment. Feel free to contact John Monaghan with any
questions at monaghan@comcast.net, or 267-253-7314
(Cell).
Statues for Our Adoration Chapel
For some time I have been attempting to place statues of
the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph in our Adoration Chapel. If any one is interested in donating money towards acquiring these statues, please contact Father Connors at the
rectory. A dedication plaque will be placed on the statue(s)
of those wishing it. The cost depends on what we receive
in part or in whole. Thank you!
Congratulations to the following students who live their
faith every day and were selected as the Student of the
Month in February for the virtue of Faith: Augustus Nama, Christopher Laidley, Nicholas Tait, Isabella AndoMcLane, Nicole Cartlidge, Kylie McHugh, Eric Krause,
Owen Coyle, Dylan Murphy, Kim Motz.

Did you know?
What is the Significance of the 40 Weekdays
Before Easter?
The 40 days of Lent which
precede Easter is based
on two Biblical accounts:
the 40 years of wilderness
wandering by the Israelites
and our Lord's 40 days in
the wilderness at which point He was tempted by Satan.
Each year the Church observes Lent where we, like
Israel and our Lord, are tested. We participate in abstinence, times of fasting, confession and acts of mercy
to strengthen our faith and devotional disciplines. The
goal of every Christian is to leave Lent a stronger and
more vital person of faith than when we entered.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, "The
seasons and days of penance in the course of the liturgical year (Lent, and each Friday in memory of the
death of the Lord) are intense moments of the
Church's penitential practice. These times are particularly appropriate for spirKey Dates:
