Dear Parish family of St. Joseph’s,
Helping with Hospitality
at our Fish Fry …
Sacrament of
Reconciliation
Offered All Day
THIS Friday, March 20
Parking is always at a premium for our parish Fish
Fries. In keeping with our Lenten spirit and our
continued focus on our spirit of hospitality, if you
are working at the fish fry, would you consider
parking in the SVDP building parking lot to give
our guests a chance for closer parking?
From the Pastor’s Pen
As we continue our Lenten journey to the promises of
Easter, let us recall our Ash Wednesday reminder:
“Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.”
This Friday, March 20 St. Joseph’s will offer the
Sacrament of Reconciliation from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm.
I hope you will join us this Lenten Season in quiet
prayer for all those who are seeking to reconcile with
God and the Church.
Confession times and schedule of priests will be:
Friday, March 20
9:00 - 10:00 am...........................Fr. Rickey Valleroy
..........................................................Fr. James Dyer
10:00 - 12:00 pm ............................Fr. Jim Schaefer

May the grace of Reconciliation bring lasting peace to
our hearts, homes and communities this Lenten
season.
“Mary’s Way of the Cross”
A Special Evening of Lenten Prayer
St. Joseph’s Parish will be having a special Stations of
the Cross, Mary’s Way of the Cross, on Wednesday,
March 25 at 7:00 pm in church. What a beautiful way
for us to meditate on Mary, the Mother of God as she
watched her Son give His life for us. My special thanks
to all the ladies who will be prayerfully participating in
this evening.
Fish Fry Meals Available to be
Delivered to Our Homebound
If you are homebound, registered in our parish, are on
our communion call list and would like a fish fry meal
brought to your home, please contact our Parish
Health Minister, Agnes Hinkebein. Due to dietary
restrictions, we are asked not to deliver to nursing homes.
Not only would you be offering this small action for the
greater good of our parish, but you could also eat a bit
more at the fish fry knowing that you will be walking off
a few of the calories by walking to your car!!!
☺
Lenten Fish Fry Update...
Wow!!! We served 1060 meals at our
Second Lenten Fish Fry
Wow, the attendance at our second Fish Fry of the
Lenten season was amazing, we served 1060 meals.
Our special gratitude goes to our SVDP volunteers,
Finance Board, ACTS community, Respect Life
Committee and our Father’s Table who did an
excellent job serving as our hosts for our second fish
fry of the season. The warm hospitality shown to
our guests is the hallmark of our faith community!
Thank you to the many parishioners who pitched in
and helped out where needed! You will find a report on
our fish fries on page 11 of this bulletin.
The poor of our community were remembered with
the proceeds of our 50/50 profit of $228.00 which will
be given to the “Help the Hungry Bakesale”.
Congratulations to Marissa Zaricor who was the
winner of the 50/50 drawing last week and donated
$50.00 back to Help the Hungry Bakesale!
Easter Flower Memorials
A beautiful way to remember those who now
share in the resurrection of Christ in Eternal Life…
If you would like to remember a loved one with a
special memorial this Easter Season, you can do so
by donating to the Easter flowers that will adorn our
sacred space this Easter season. You will find a
memorial envelope in your monthly offering envelopes
or you may bring your memorial by the parish office by
Monday, March 23. This is an especially prayerful
way to remember those who loved St. Joseph’s
parish and have gone before us! We will publish all
memorials in our Easter Sunday bulletin.

Remembering Those Serving
our Country this Easter Season...
We would like to remember the members of our
families who are currently on active duty serving our
country this Easter season by having a page
dedicated to them in our Easter bulletin. If you have
an immediate family member currently serving our
country, please contact Jeannette in the parish office.
Names must be submitted by Monday March, 23.
Are You Using Your Lenten Rice Bowls?
Please Return Them at the Mass of the
Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday
We hope your Lenten Rice Bowl is a center of your
dining room table this Lenten season. You will be
asked at the offertory at the Mass of the Lord’s
Supper to place your boxes or offerings in the basket
at the altar. This long time tradition has been the
center of many Catholic kitchen tables during the
Lenten season as we remember our brothers and
sisters who hunger throughout the world.
An Old Fashion Bakesale
Sponsored by Our Women of Mary
to be Held March 28 - 29
The Women of Mary bakesale is just right around the
corner. It is a weekend that many of us look forward
to each year... It is time for our annual Women of
Mary bakesale that will be held after all the masses
the weekend of March 28 - 29 in the parish center.
All proceeds from the bake sale go to support the
activities of our Women of Mary such as new altar
linens, our funeral luncheons and cleaning supplies
for our church. If you enjoy the desserts at our fish
fries, you won’t want to miss this opportunity!
A Special Mission Week
at St. Joseph’s with the
Fr. Ron Hoye, C.M.
The week of April 18 - 22 our parish will be honored
to welcome Fr. Ron Hoye, C.M. as our presenter for
our Spring Mission. I promise it will be a week you will
not want to miss. Please see the invitation on page 8
and mark your calendars.

Are You Interested in Attending
Our 10th Annual Washington DC
Pilgrimage January 19 - 24, 2016
The dates for our 10th Annual Pilgrimage have been
set. We will leave St. Joseph’s at 5:30 pm on Tuesday,
January 19 and will return on Sunday, January 24.
This year we will also be visiting the White House,
Gettysburg and St. Elizabeth Shrine.
If you are interested in this Pilgrimage you must attend
a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, March 24 at 6:30
pm in the Parish Center.
No Tuition Increase Again Next Year
I am thrilled to announce that there will be no tuition
increase again for the 2015 - 2016 school year for our
parishioners. The last tuition increase was back in
2012, that makes only one tuition increase in the past
10 years...truly amazing.
Saint Joseph Prayer
Patron Saint of our Parish
Gracious St. Joseph, protect my family and all other
families from danger, as you did protect the baby Jesus
and His mother from the wrath of king Herod.
Pray for us, that we respect, love and care for each
other in our family as you were with Mary and Jesus.
Help us to be understanding and forgiving towards each
other.
Most of all St. Joseph, bring us closer to Jesus. St.
Joseph, please pray for our family. Amen.
And Finally...
If you know a Catholic that has been away from the
Church for a while, I encourage you to invite them to a
Catholics Come Home dinner on Tuesday, April 28 at
6:30 pm in the Parish Center.
Thank you to Gene Eddleman for the recent snow
removal from our cemetery. A special thanks to the
many gentlemen who voluntarily showed up to remove
snow from our church grounds.
“Always remember that as long as we keep the
Eucharist the center of our lives, everything else
will fall in place...of that I am confident”!!!

Thank You For Your Faithfulness!!!
“For God so
loved the world
that he gave his
only Son…” John 3:16
Of all the wonderful gifts that God has given to
us, the gift of His own Son is truly the greatest.
How can we ever thank God for a gift like that?
God does not ask us to sacrifice our own
precious firstborn, but He does ask that we be
generous in making some sacrifices for Him.
What if you woke up this morning with
only what you thanked God for yesterday?
Together we pray for those who are sick. (Parishioners names are in bold.)
Please pray for: Lorrie Woten, Johnny Reese, David H., Jack Hagler, Sidney Wofford, Thomas Wofford,

Fourth Sunday of Lent
The people of God forgot the covenant and flouted God’s laws. They did not listen to the prophets among
them, who spoke for God in warning them. Prophets are sent from God to remind us why we are here, but
they are often, even in our own time, mocked, disregarded, and mistreated, rather than thanked and listened
to.
The book of Chronicles tells the results of these sins: the destruction of the Temple and all of Jerusalem,
murder, mayhem, and finally exile to a foreign land. Why are these stories in the Bible? Just to inform us of
what happened to our ancient forebears? What good would that be unless there were a message and a
warning for us as well? Are we people who follow the teachings of God, who obey the words of Christ in the
second covenant in his blood? Or do we continue to wreak works of darkness and violence? We are
reminded by these readings that we will be judged as a people, not just as individuals.
Judged As A People
The people of Judah suffered the destruction of
everything dear to them: their city, their goods and
riches, their lives and dear ones, and finally they
endured exile in a foreign land. We in America cannot
imagine ourselves taken prisoners and exiled to a
foreign land because it has never happened to us,
although it happens every day to people in other
lands, as they are made refugees by the evil done to
them by others. We need to face the hard question: is
some of that evil being done in our name?
We will be judged in the end, not just as individuals,
but as a people. What do our works in the world say
about us? Can we avoid the judgment that we are as
bad as those whom we claim do us evil?
Yet God Is Rich In Mercy
The people of ancient Jerusalem forgot God and the
promises made to them and by them, and did wrong.
They preferred darkness to light, because their works
were evil and the light would expose them for what
they were. How are we like that today? Do we
persecute those who call us to be our best selves, or
do we listen and repent? Do we treat others badly because we see them as bad, or do we treat them as
children of God, thus demonstrating that we are who we say we are: good people who love God? Worse, do
we harm others and justify it by claiming that we act in God’s own name? That’s what the ancients did when
they persecuted and killed the prophets. (Babylon, to which the people of God were exiled, is in modern-day
Iraq.)
Yet today we are reminded that God is merciful, and despite our sins God has sent Christ to be our savior
and our guide. God remembers the covenant, even if we forget. We may be condemned by our works, but
we are not saved by our own works, but rather by God’s grace and mercy. God offers us, in the Son, mercy
and forgiveness if we recognize our wrongdoing.

Food Pantry
In
today’s
Gospel,
God
demonstrates great love for us
by sending his Son so that we
may believe in him. We
demonstrate our great love for
God by doing good works:
reaching out to others, acting in
justice and charity.
Through your almsgiving you are
performing a good work; far
greater than you think. Know that
your nickel, dime, quarter or
dollar is multiplied by the coins
given by others.
Open Tuesday and Friday
9:00 am - 12:00 pm
For assistance call 756-0997
Our food pantry serves people
in the St. Francois county
regardless of race, sex, national
origin, religion, or age.

The Elements of Confession
Remember last year’s Christmas present from
the parish? We hope you enjoyed the book, The
Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic. Each week of
this new year we will be featuring a meditation
from this book, Dynamic Catholic, Alive!
In Confession, there are
4 essential elements for
the penitent:
1) Examination of
Conscience (careful
reflection on our sins),
2) Contrition (interior
repentance),
3) Confession (telling
one’s sin to the priest, and 4) Satisfaction
(carrying out our penance). There are many
great guides to confession available. Don’t
worry if you can’t remember all of the
responses. Priests are always willing to help
you make a good confession. Do you know the
difference between perfect and imperfect
contrition? archstl.org/dynamic
