I want to wish our Past Grand Knight, Bob Powers, best wishes in his future endeavors. I also would like to congratulate all the newly elected officers for the Council, the Corporation and the Columbiettes . I am eager to start my journey with you for the next two years and know that with the help of all the officers and members of St. Regis we will have much success. I would like to give a special thanks to Pat Dillon, Jimmy Tallman and Vinny Granice on the great job with the St. Regis Annual Golf Outing. This Outing benefits the St. Regis Scholarship Fund. The Golf Outing honored Mike Kiernan for his years of dedication and services to St. Regis Council. Job well done Mike! I would like to congratulate Mark Johnson Sr. for receiving the Knight of the Year Award, John and Marie Hoffman for receiving the Family of the Year Award and Joseph Mottola, who was the recipient of the Inspirational award. I would like to thank all of the members of St. Regis Council who have helped with the various fund raisers and all events within this past year. IMPORTANT dates to remember for the upcoming events: Wednesday July 8 the Annual Calendar Meeting! The Calendar fills up fast!! All those wishing to book an event and to secure a date and time, please come to the Calendar Meeting, which will start promptly at 7:00pm in the St. Regis downstairs small catering room. Sunday August 2nd is our Annual Council Picnic at Hidden Pond Park. What a great way to meet all new members and their families. I look forward to seeing you. Sunday August 9th Installation of Officers, downstairs in Carew Hall following the 12:00pm Mass. There will be a Reception following the Installation at the Council. All are welcome to celebrate with the Officers and their families. I would like to wish all members and their families, a Happy, Healthy & Safe July 4th! Fraternally yours, Grand Knight “Remember, we can only make this work by all working together.” St. Regis Knights of Columbus Council 4651 2014-2015 Knight of the Year Mark Johnson, Sr. Family of the Year John & Marie Hoffman Inspiration Award Joseph Mottola Harold J. Carlton III PGK Field Agent Ph: 631-676-6211 email: Harold.Carlton@KofC.org I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bob Powers for his great leadership in the past year. Many things go on during a Columbian year that most of us take for granted. Being a past Grand Knight myself, I can relate to the many long days and nights that Bob had to endure, not mention the time spent away from his wife and family. It is a thankless job, but a fulfilling job. I feel we all owe Bob and all our past Grand Knights a great deal of respect and gratitude that they stepped up and took the job on. Not only is a hard job, but the number of members in our council is two to three times larger than any other council in Suffolk County, making it that much harder. Thank you Bob and Terry for giving up your time and hard work to make this once again, a very successful year. Have fun now and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Now I look forward to the incoming Grand Knight Danny Purcell. I am anxious to get started on another great year. I feel Danny and his staff are ready to pick up where Bob and his staff left off and continue on the great success of St Regis. My prayers and support are with you all. I will once again commit myself to during my part as Field Agent to help achieve whatever goals you have in mind. I know we will not be disappointed in your vision of the future of this council. Let’s get behind Dan and pray that the Holy Spirit guides him towards the direction that meets the needs of not only our council, but most important our Church. Good Luck Dan. God Bless. Welcome to all the new officers and I look forward to working with each of you. Call on me anytime. Even though the new Fraternal Year has begun, my job continues. I still have commitments to each and every member of this council. My job has not changed, other than my continued devotion to the dream of Father Michael McGivney. I will continue to contact as many as possible to sit with and discuss your fraternal benefits entitled to you, and the financial products available to you and your family for your family’s future and protection. Let’s have coffee soon and discuss what’s most important to you. Give me a call, if I haven’t got to you yet. I look forward to seeing you. God Bless, and enjoy the rest of this beautiful summer. LIFE INSURANCE • LONG-TERM CARE • RETIREMENT PRODUCTS • DISABILITY INCOME Membership News A new fraternal year begins today. That means the goals we set for last year, we either achieved or gave a great effort, but it is over. Today we begin fresh. The difference I hope is that we start off faster than last year. No fault of anyone, we got off to a very slow start last year, but this year we have a goal that we now know is achievable, as long as we start early. Please continue to ask every Catholic man you run into to join our organization and continue Father McGivney’s dream of strengthening our faith. Each man that joins adds to our strength as an organization. It gives us increased leverage to fight for our beliefs and protect our Faith and Values. So lets start the year off right. If you have someone in mind that you want to recruit, but need help, call myself or Danny Purcell (631) 467-0230 and we will be glad to assist you. Our monthly contest will continue for each application turned in will qualify you for the monthly drawing. You will be entered each month you turn in a application for membership, either transfer, reapplication, new member. At each month’s business meeting a drawing will be held for those that turned in apps. Then the tickets will be thrown back into an envelope and combined with the tickets for each month till January business meeting. At that time, another $100 drawing will be held. Funds for this drawing do not come from Council Funds. This past month’s drawing winner for May’s applications was Ken Kilkenny. Congratulation Ken. At the July Business meeting on July 1st we will draw for June’s winner and then put all winners and losers for the past 6 mos together and draw for a $100 gift certificate. Good luck to Danny Purcell and the entire staff for the coming Fraternal year. God Bless Remember Brothers: Membership is the lifeline of our Order. We had our awards night on the 17th and I know I thanked a number of people who helped me my first year as President -, my officers, Committee chair people, etc. However there were so many others that helped not just in one area but throughout the year in little ways so I want to say a big THANK YOU to all of you who made my job that much easier. I also want to welcome our new officers. In addition to those published in the last newsletter Colleen Wyman was elected as Financial Secretary and Joanne Koepper was elected as Treasurer in a special election held at our June meeting. I am grateful to both of these ladies for volunteering to fill these offices. “I wish PGK Bob Powers all the best for the future and congratulations to Dan Purcell and all his officers on their elections for the upcoming year.” Our installation is scheduled for August 9th after the 12PM Mass in Carew Hall. Please make every effort to attend to welcome the new officers. There will be a repast afterwards at the Council. The calendar meeting is July 8th. If you would like to chair a fund raiser this year please call me with a suggested date (with an alternative in case that date is not available) and I will get it on the calendar. Also coming up is our play at the Smithtown Performing Arts Center – West Side Story on July 26th. As usual there will be wine & cheese beforehand and baskets. The Knights are working hard on organizing our annual family picnic on Aug 2nd. Gift baskets filled with all kinds of goodies will be raffled off. Please see all the information elsewhere in the Knight Life. Our memorial Mass is July 26th (the same day as the play). Please join us for worship and fellowship. There will be no meeting in July or August so enjoy your summer and have a Happy and safe 4th of July. Here are some trivia questions regarding July 4th – answers in the next issue. Those who attended the play 1776 and history buffs should ace this! In what City was the Declaration of Independence signed? What are the first 7 words of the Declaration of Independence? Whose signature is the largest on the Declaration? Who proposed “Lee’s Resolution” on June 1, 1776 declaring that we were independent of Great Britain? (Mr Lee is NOT a correct answer) Who was the King of England when the colonies declared their independence? What is our national bird? Bonus question – what other 2 birds were suggested?
