Brothers,
February was a great month for our council. We
closed January with our Basketball free throw which
was a great time, we had winners in every age bracket
and they will move on to the district challenge. We
started February with our 2nd annual Religious Appreciation night which was well attended and a lot of fun.
Winterfest at Resurrection was a huge event full of
activities and opportunities to serve the parish. Our
council also started the process to nominate a new
slate of officers for our upcoming fraternal year. We
held first and second degrees as well as our monthly
events like road clean up and business meetings, we
started 40 days for Life as well as we started Lent on
Ash Wednesday. We had a wonderful program at A
Day for Men IV at Resurrection. Thank you Brother
Robert Roldan for following the call of God to design,
facilitate and offer this event for all men of faith. As I
look forward to March I anticipate our membership
drive at Resurrection, our St. Patrick’s and Founders
day dinner as well as our breakfast for the Honor Roll
students.
Our Diocesan Eucharistic Congress is on March
13, 14, 2015. We as Catholics profess the Eucharist is
the true presence of Christ, this is the foundation of
our faith and it is what separates us from our
protestant brothers and sisters. This opportunity not
only allows us the time to gather, proclaim our faith
and pray together but we also have the opportunity to
listen to Cardinal Dolan, Jeff Cavins, Dr. Scott Hahn
and many more. This will be an amazing learning
event, especially during Lent for us. This event is
open to all, as the name states “Come to the house of
the Lord”. I hope all of us will make time this lent to
attend this event, take the time to pray and to grow in
our spiritual walk with our Lord.
Please take the time to look at our calendar of
upcoming events, check the diocesan calendar and
plan to become active in your faith and order this
Lent.

Another season of Lent has started. Lent is a reminder of the 40 days that Christ spent in the desert in
reflection and prayer. We can't go off to some desert
for 40 days but we can use this time as an opportunity
to reflect on our relationship with Jesus Christ. Are we
growing in that relationship? What do we need to do
to improve that relationship.
I pray that all of us will use this time that God is giving us during this season of Lent for reflection and
prayer so that we can grow closer to Christ. If we do
we will be rewarded with an Easter that is filled with
love, joy and hope.

Brothers, we have a new book of the Sick and in Distress
at the Hall. You will find it next to the statue of Mary accented by candles. Inside you will find monthly pages upon
which to print the names of your special intentions. Each
month we will start a new page so be sure to carry forward
anyone who is still in need of prayers. If you are unable to attend a meeting or function at the hall simply contact an officer
or brother Knight to place your intention in the book. There
are instructions within the book if you would like a visit from
our Knights of the Brotherly Care.

Officer Nominations
Ramon Day has volunteered to Chair our Nominating
Committee for nominations of officers for the July 1,
2015 - June 30, 2016 fiscal year. We will begin the formal nomination process at the April 14, 2015 Business
Meeting. Additional nominations will be taken at the
May 12, 2015 Business Meeting and then nominations
will be closed at this meeting. Elections will occur after nominations are closed at the May 12, 2015 Business Meeting. If you would like to be considered for
election to a position for next year please reach out to
Ramon Day at 469-9162. As an officer you will be required to fulfill the duties of the office and attend both
the Monthly Business Meeting (2nd Tuesday of the
month) and the Monthly Officers Meeting (3rd Tuesday
of the month).

Your Shield for Life
What is a Home Corporation and why do we have
them? Councils are unincorporated associations holding
charters from the Supreme Council of the Knights of
Columbus. Unless state laws provide otherwise, local
councils cannot acquire title to real estate. In the past,
councils have formed home corporations for the purpose
of purchasing and owning real property. The Home
Corporation is autonomous (self-governing, independent).
It must obtain its own tax identification number, file its
own tax returns, and arrange for its own liability
insurance.
The Knights of Columbus has encouraged all local
councils to become more closely integrated into the life of
the associated parish or, in our council’s case, parishes.
Consistent with that goal Supreme has discouraged
councils from forming home corporations concerned that
the local council might shift its focus away from parish
life or that the corporation would become a source of
discord and factionalism within councils. Supreme
further indicates that to the extent that a home corporation
does not support the council’s mission and activities, it
should be dissolved.

center where the traffic court used to be.
Sorry but due to limited budget and staffing they
are only able make pick-ups on Tuesday and
Thursdays. All profits goes to the St. Vincent de Paul
Society of Jacksonville which helps the needy. If you
bored are looking for something to do, come down and
VOLUNTEER. Stay an hour or all day, there is always
something to do, from sorting out and hanging clothes
to placing books on the shelf. We never have enough
volunteers. Check us out!

Family of the Month
February 2015
Our family of the month is Jesse and Inga Morgan. It
is an honor to be able to serve and enjoy time with these
two wonderful servants of the Lord. I appreciate their
commitment not only to the Knights but also to our faith.
They are a great example to all of us. Congratulations

Knight of the Month
February 2015
Our Knight of the month is Zack Dodge. Many of us
may not know Zack, but he is a second degree Knight, he
is the cook for the priests at Christ the King and is a core
member in the youth ministry program as well. Zack has
been behind the scenes for many of our events usually
cooking and cleaning.
It is encouraging to know that our young Knights are active in their faith and are willing to help when called upon. I have often volunteered Zack for many events that is,
I volunteered him prior to him agreeing to help. Congratulations Zack!

USE OF OUR COUNCIL HALL
Brothers we have a lot going on at our council hall and
we want to avoid any conflicting activities. If you want to
have an event at our hall, here are the steps to follow. (1)
Consult our annual calendar to make sure that there is no
date or time conflict (2) You will need to get approval from
the Grand Knight John Klinkenberg if your event is not a
normal Knights of Columbus event such as council events,
KCee events, or Squire events (3) Contact our Program Director (Steve Bell 860-2284 / knightrider1997@comcast.net
and get your event on the annual calendar to reserve your
spot and (4) Contact our ACA President Bill Smith to obtain
access to the hall and ensure that you are aware of the cleanup and shutdown process after the event.

Pro-LIFE Message for March 2015
As noted last month, Rep. Mike Hill, R-Pensacola Beach, introduced HB 147 – Women’s Health Protection Act requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the location where abortions are performed or induced. A similar bill, SB 920, has been introduced and filed in the Senate by Sen. Kelli Stargel, R-Lakeland. Supporters say such proposals help
ensure patient safety, while critics contend the requirements are designed to make it harder to provide abortions. Looks like a WinWin to me.
Slowly, the pro-life movement seems to be making headway in our culture. The increasingly widespread use of ultrasound machines has shown the humanity of the unborn child in an unmistakable way, and the peaceful, prayerful vigils outside abortion clinics
has helped to save lives and change hearts, as we seek to build a Culture of Life respecting the dignity of every human life at every
stage.
The Spring 40-Days for Life Campaign began on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2015 and will continue through to Palm
Sunday, on March 29, 2015. 40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God’s power through prayer,
fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion in America. This year we are standing once again in front of "A Woman's Choice of
Jacksonville", at 4131 University Blvd. South (Seven days a week from 7 A.M. until 7 P.M.). The Jacksonville Local Director is

Upcoming pro-life events in April include the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Women’s Help Center. This year’s annual
Gala for Life “Celebrate the Footprints of Life” will be held on Thursday, April 16th at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront beginning
with a social hour at 5:30 PM. with dinner and program to follow at 6:30 PM. The event is free but Hyatt does charge for parking. It
is anticipated Bishop Estevez and Senator Rick Santorum will be present. Make reservations early by phone or email: 398-5143 or
bdamato@whcjax.com. Seating is limited. It is a worthy event to attend. Please mark your calendars and call. We do our best ...
