GRAND ANNUAL APPEAL We have reached 35% of our goal of $100,000 to date. Thank you to all the parish families who have contributed. Our Appeal will continue through December 31st, so there’s still plenty of time to participate. We are asking each parish family to contribute $300 if possible, but we realize that’s not possible for everyone. All donations are most appreciated. If every parish family responds according to their means, we will reach our goal. The key to the success of the Appeal is 100% participation! You have shown tremendous generosity to the weekly offertory, the Building Fund and the Capital Campaign, and it’s not easy to ask for more, but the Grand Annual Appeal is a vital supplement to meet our day-to-day needs. We are deeply grateful. DEEP CATHOLICISM PRAYER REQUEST FOR PRIESTS A new monthly class for adult Catholics will be led by Fr. Jurgen Liias on the first Monday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at St. Patrick's Church in Stoneham. Each session will include a teaching lecture followed by questions and discussion; refreshments will be served. The Monthly Prayer Request for Priests Apostolate is an international apostolate which was founded in 1990 to encourage people to support Catholic priests by prayer and sacrifice. Each diocese prays for its own priests. Each day of the year bears the name of a priest from that diocese. Thus, by means of the calendar, the faithful are united in offering prayer and sacrifice for the particular "priest of the day," always remembering to include the general intention of prayer for all priests of the diocese and around the world. It’s a simple, yet powerful, means of spiritual and emotional support for priests. You can find a copy of the Prayer Request at the rear of the Church and in the downstairs bookcase. The Monday, November 3rd topic is the Church's teaching about what happens to each human being following their death. PARENT INFORMATION SERIES BRING THE GIFTS TO THE ALTAR St. Mary’s School will be offering a Parent Series during the 2014-2015 school year. The goal of this series is to connect with parents on educational topics and work collaboratively for the services of each student. Have you seen our Wooden Fish on the table at the back of the Church at the 9:30 Family Mass? That is a Sign that we need “kids of all ages” to bring the Gifts to the Altar. Please just “take our fish” and let an Usher know you will bring the Gifts to the Altar. This will let everyone know that someone is already set to bring the Gifts to the Altar. When you go back to get the Gifts, please be sure to return our Fish! Our first Parent Series will be held on Monday, November 3rd at St. Mary’s School at 7:00 pm, titled “How to Support your Child at Home.” This session is geared to parents of students in preK-4. Parents always wonder what they can do to help their child do better in school. Come and learn some fun activities and games that you can do at home to help your child develop math and reading fluency. Most activities can be adapted according to the age of the child. This is especially a great idea for our young people who are preparing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation this year, as they can play another important role and be more actively involved in the Celebration of the Mass. Our second session is on “Cyber Safety,” most appropriate for parents of students in grades 5-8, and will be presented by a representative from the Middlesex District Attorney’s office. It will be held on Wednesday, November 19th at 7:00 pm. This session will focus on the internet, texting and sexting in middle school. We hope you can join us. BOXTOPS 4 EDUCATION & CAMPBELL’S LABELS FOR EDUCATION These are two additional ways funds are raised to support the school and to obtain educational supplies and materials for the school. Each BoxTop 4 Education is worth 10 cents. Please continue to help us by clipping these labels and dropping them off at the school or in the envelope located on the Lower Church Hall Bulletin Board. Please check out our website for more information about what’s happening in our school. stmaryschoolmelrose.org
