November 16, 2014-Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time #621 page 3 Baptism Preparation Session, this Sunday at 1:30 pm in Church Monday, Eucharistic Adoration 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the LaSalle Center Eucharistic Adoration next Sunday from 1-3pm in the LaSalle Center-Our Lord Jesus Christ the King Scripture Reflections for NEXT WEEK Scripture Reflections for THIS WEEK THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME “Stay awake.” My siblings and I used to huddle in our rooms on Christmas night, determined to stay up for Christmas dawn. We’d inevitably fall asleep, awakening around dawn to find the presents already around the tree and Jesus in the manger. “Stay awake,” we would say again on New Year’s Eve. This got a little easier as we got older and beat on pots and pans to celebrate the New Year. Special occasions call for special wakefulness. We anticipate, we watch, we try to glimpse the first signs of the holiday, birthday, or first day of vacation. These are important to us, and we don’t want to miss them. “Stay alert,” Paul says to us. “Prepare for the Master’s return,” Jesus says to us. At the end of the Church year, everything is about watchfulness. We reflect on the end times, when Christ will return in glory to judge the living and the dead and draw all creation to himself. What happens in the end? We show God what we’ve done with his many gifts. We behave as children of light and refuse to fall asleep (a metaphor for turning away from God) so we’ll be found waiting when Christ comes again. We keep the faith, knowing our hope is in the Lord. When we were children, the temptation to fall asleep was great; we didn’t always make it to the first minutes of celebration. As adults in faith, the stakes are much higher. If we fall asleep here, we may miss the party altogether. Let’s encourage one another while we still have time. Mary Katharine Deeley sundaybulletins@liguori.org OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING First Reading Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17(160A) The Lord said, “I myself will look after and tend my sheep. As a shepherd tends his flock…I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy or dark.” I will pasture them, give them rest, bring back the strays, and heal the sick. Second Reading 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28 Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “Just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life.” Christ must reign until the last enemy, death, is destroyed, “so that God may be all in all.” Gospel Matthew 25: 31-46 As a shepherd separated sheep from goats, so will the Son of Man come in glory to separate those who fed the hungry from those who did not: “Whatever you did for one of the least…you did for me.” Next Sunday, November 23rd The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King will be celebrated with EUCHARISTIC ADORATION IN THE LASALLE CENTER 1-- 3PM ALL ARE INVITED… To come spend some quiet time with Our Lord PROFESSIONAL FAMILY COUNSELING is available for individuals and families. Because we are a Christian community, our faith tells us to believe and practice the corporal, as well as the spiritual, works of mercy. Jesus tells us in the Gospel that whatever we do for the least of our brethren, we are doing for him. The project will begin the weekend of November 22 & 23 and run through the weekend of December 13 & 14. At that time the gifts will be sorted and delivered just in time for the Christmas holiday. In the spirit of keeping Christ in Christmas, please consider helping those less fortunate by taking a tag from one of the boards either at the back of the Church or at the Ridge Road entrance. Purchase the gift listed on the tag, wrap the gift and attach the tag to the package, then return it to Church by December 14.
