It is customary that the Gospel for the Fourth Sunday of Advent
focuses on the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the fulfillment
of God’s plan to send a Redeemer for the human race. That
plan, or ‘mystery’ in the terminology of St. Paul, is of universal
significance, and its progress toward fruition is the history of
salvation, marked by a succession of key moments. Among
them is the promise God made to King David, at first rebuking
David for his presumption in thinking he could build a ‘house’ or
temple for the Lord, but pledging on His part to establish a
‘house’ or ruling dynasty to perpetuate David’s kingship. This
carries forward the promise given to Adam and Eve and made
ever more specific through God’s commitments to Abraham
and his descendants, and continuing through the Exodus and
later periods of Exile, sustaining hope in the coming of the
Messiah and fueling the excitement voiced by John the Baptist
in eager anticipation of the Anointed One’s appearance. This
story of waiting patiently for redemption ultimately finds as the
context for its realization the intimate exchange between the
angel Gabriel and a single young soul, ready to give herself
totally to serve as an instrument for the fulfillment of God’s ageold plan. Mary’s trusting response to the awesome prospect
proposed to her is a whole-hearted ‘yes’: “Behold, I am the
handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your
word.” From that moment, the longing of all humanity for the
promised Savior is focused in Mary’s contemplation of the
mystery that has embraced her. Love for the Child she carries
absorbs this expectant mother, and, through these final days of
Advent, we await with her in quiet awe the “revelation of the
mystery kept secret for long ages” but now made manifest in
Jesus Christ.
In the name of our entire parish family, I offer sincere and
prayerful condolences to Fr. Bill Sheridan and his family on the
death of his mother, Dorothy Marie Sheridan. May she know
the fullness of eternal life, and may the Lord touch the hearts of
her loved ones with His comfort and peace.
To all our parishioners, neighbors and friends, I express the
warm good wishes of our priests and parish staff for a happy
and blessed Christmas. May the spirit of hope that is given new
birth in our hearts lead us to acknowledge the Savior’s Birth in
deeds that echo the joyful song of the Angel Chorus, “Glory to
God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his
favor rests.” Alive as the Body of Christ, may we live in mutual
support our identity, revealed in the Humanity of Jesus, as
God’s children, brothers and sisters together, witnesses of His
boundless love and agents of His justice and peace in our
world. God love you!

MEMORIAL DONATIONS
We are accepting Memorial Donations for flowers
for the Altar area, the Candles, Bread & Wine
used for the Liturgies, and the weekly Sanctuary
Candle. These items may be donated in memory
of someone or to mark a special occasion. A
donation of $10 is suggested for the candles, bread & wine and
sanctuary candle, and a donation of $40 is suggested for the
weekly flowers. (MEMORIAL CARDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR
THESE DONATIONS.) ALSO, as we face the need to replace
various items for liturgical use, we are happy to arrange for

Christmas? Or continue one you have been doing for a
while? Oplatek kits are available for purchase in the Parish
Center. (Supplies are limited.) The Oplatek is the traditional
Polish (Eastern European) Christmas Wafer that families break
and share on Christmas Eve. The kit includes one Oplatek in a
decorative envelope complete with instructions and prayer for
its use. Kits are $1 and all donations will be forwarded to the
St. Michael Youth Ministry Program for their Appalachian
Project.

WELCOME TO THE WATERS
….a Baptism preparation program, supports new
parents raising children in faith. Through interactive
participation, parents are provided instruction to
facilitate an appreciation and understanding of the
Sacrament of Baptism. Welcome to the Waters
meets periodically; pre-registration is required (class size is
limited). Call the Parish Center (908-276-0360) to schedule a
Baptism date and register for the prep. session. (Please note
that there are no Baptisms in Lent.)
ST. MICHAEL TECH TEAM
We are starting to put together a permanent Tech Team. The
goal is to enhance Worship Services by providing solid and
consistent Audio, Video and Computer support. The Tech
Team assists with the design, operation and maintenance of
hardware and software for a variety of applications for the
St. Michael Community. Members are Adult and Student
volunteers.
Current Activities:
 Set up and operation of Sound equipment at the Noon
Mass.
 Sound check for balanced volume and proper coverage.
 Set up and operation of Video equipment.
 Set up and operation of Computer and Software.
 No experience needed - we will train!
 Time commitment can be weekly or monthly.

MASS ON TV -- One of our Sunday Masses will be televised on
TV-35. Viewing times are Sundays at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The
taped Mass will be from the previous week. Also, our Mass will

Living Nativity Planned -- Once again Youth Ministry has made
plans to present the “Living Nativity” on Christmas Eve and Christmas
Day. The animals have been secured, and soon fencing will be up at
St. Theresa’s for the 18th annual Living Nativity. Join us all day on
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as the animals will be out. Members of the High School Youth Ministry Program will be in costume
after all Masses (4:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and Midnight at St. Theresa’s)
on Christmas Eve reenacting the scene that took place so many years
ago in Bethlehem. Don’t forget your camera! Again, we’d appreciate
that you ONLY feed the animals CARROTS, no apples, etc.

PARISH CHRISTMAS TREE
THIS weekend, December 20-21, our Parish Christmas Tree
( located in the main lobby) may be decorated. A “Family”
decoration (reflecting the TRUE meaning of Christmas) may be
placed upon the tree prior to the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday
evening and all day Sunday. Hope your family will join in this
celebration. P.S. Our Parish Family Christmas Tree will be
lighted for the first time prior to 5:30 Mass on Christmas Eve.
CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARD HOLIDAY DECORATIONS
Envelopes for donations to assist with the cost of flowers
and other decorations for the Feast of the Nativity
of the Lord are NOW available in the lobbies of
the church and the Parish Office. Donations may
be made in memory of someone. Names of donors and
memorial names will be published during the Christmas Season
and placed in the main lobby. A donation of $15 is suggested.
Envelopes have poinsettias printed on them and will also be
included in the parish-wide Christmas mailing.
